Homer house description
Welcome to the Grand View Retreat Chalet overlooking a spectacular view of Kachemak Bay, Cooks Inlet, Dixon Glacier, Portlock Glacier, Grewingk Glacier, and Homer Spit.
This 5,200 sq. ft. luxurious chalet has 5 bedrooms with attached baths, and a cozy loft bedroom with trundle beds. It is very private and is tastefully decorated, has a large gourmet kitchen, a 60” big screen TV, I pod dock, barbeque grill, 4 decks, 2 Jacuzzi tubs and too much more to list. With two very large living rooms and a gigantic loft, all with spectacular views, it is perfect for special occasions such as family reunions.
Most visitors are taken aback from the breathtaking view of the Alaskan Mountains and nearby glaciers, surrounding Ketchmak Bay. At night you can enjoy the beautiful spectacle of light emanating from the nearby Famous Homer Spit.
The Chalet is located 9 miles from town, but is close to nearby shopping, wine tasting, fine dining, art galleries and museums. Animal enthusiasts will enjoy the safe view of nearby Alaskan wildlife that includes bears, otters, moose, eagles, birds, hares, porcupines and other animals indigenous to the area.
Seafood and fishing lovers will have their fill of Alaskan Halibut, varieties of salmon, rock fish, and clams. Overall this property will allow you to enjoy the awe-inspiring beauty of Alaska with all the comforts of home. Several moose live in the woods surrounding the house and it is very common to see more than one moose from the balcony. They really love the clover right under the balcony.
I promise you just one thing. When it is time to go home, you will not want to leave. But then, you can always come again next year.

I and a groop of friends stayed there recently. What a remarkable place. If you have a family this is it. If you have a large crowd this place is it. If you really want to relax and enjoy your time in Alaska this place is it. The house is wonderful. Every one can sleep very comfortably. There is plenty of space to get away from every one. And wonderful spaces in the house for everyone to be together. The main living room has incredible views of the bay. The owners hospitality is fantastic. If you're going make your stay a vacation you should stay in this house.

This house is everything it claims...big, great views, well furnished, spacious, with resident moose outside your window. Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We had a family reunion in Alaska with 14 people. Part of our stay was in Homer in this lovely home. We all slept comfortably and had a great open living/dining area in which to socialize during the day. The views were stunning and we enjoyed the deck tremendously. We also loved spotting the moose family that visited the backyard. We would definitely stay in this home again!

Fabulous in every way - views, spaciousness, room configurations, paintings, amenities. Our family had 12 persons. The dining room and living room easily accomodated all of us. The bedrooms were arranged so that everyone had their privacy when needed. All appliances were in working order. There were several resident moose sightings. There was easy access to a main road. The views will remain in our memories for a very long time. Our family had a wonderful experience. The house felt more like a home than a rental property.

dual family vacation reunion
dual family vacation reunion
All 7 of us enjoyed the property--it was clean, well equipped, and even included a welcome bottle of wine from the local winery. It offered space for two sets of kids, and privacy for two couples. all bedrooms were spacious and we had space everywhere for privacy. the owner answered all our questions before we arrived (re: coming to Alaska, there are many questions) but they also took my call over some tv service and a dryer question... They promptly called back and directed me to solve the issue. The windows were amazing, as they opened and allow fresh air to flow! coming from Arizona, we don't get to open windows much! the downstairs allowed kids privacy and their OWN bathrooms (that is a vacation in itself!) - and if we went to Alaska again, we would welcome a stay at this property. We truly enjoyed the mama moose and her two babies that bedded down for the "night" in the yard! amazing to see her interact with the babies! also, we are coffee lovers and there were two coffeemakers in the kitchen to choose to use! Great kitchen and huge dining table for ALL of us to sit and enjoy the views ! easy access to airport, safeway and all restaurants... our families loved the vacation. Don't hesitate to rent this one--it is a wonderful treat!

This house is so wonderful. Some of our family came in July and then more came back in August. That is how wonderful it is. We were so fortunate and blessed to have two trips for our family to this incredible house this past summer. Now we are planning process of our 3rd trip back to the same house. The house has everything you can possibly need. The kitchen is so well set up with everything, it makes cooking meals very easy. The deck and the view are probably the most amazing aspect of the house. I really can't say enough about this house. It was such a wonderful experience. Thank you for giving our family the opportunity to have two vacations with you in one summer. Hopefully we will see you again in the summer of 2014.

Our family stayed at the Grand View Retreat in July and it was better than anticipated. The location was amazing. It was quiet and private, yet close enough to town. The views were beyond words. There were moose in the yard in the mornings. You could easily spend the day out on the deck and just enjoy the view. The house had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked. The furniture is gorgeous. Very comfortable beds. Full size washer and dryer. BBQ on the deck. Full office. You really can't ask for more. There is so much to do in and around Homer, you really need more than a week. Fishing, hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, float trips, etc... The house is the perfect place to return to after your day of adventures. It is your own private sanctuary. We are already planning our next trip back. Sorry it took us so long to post a review.. Thank You for making a wonderful vacation even better.

Krause Kids - Trip of a Lifetime
Krause Kids - Trip of a Lifetime
When I say "trip of a lifetime", I mean it. This was a one and only trip that me and my siblings will ever take together. Due to schedules and locations for all of us, this truely was a trip of a lifetime. However, you advertise as a 6 bedroom, 5 bath house. We were not able to use the 6th bedroom/5th bathroom. Very disappointing since the main reason we picked this house is because there were 6 of us and we all expected to have our own room. If the 6th bed/5th bathroom is not going to be available I don't think you should advertise as such, Also, the strange wooden box in the office spooked us a little. And the trim kept falling off. Looks like the trim was not completely nailed in. Scraped a few arms on the nails. I would hate to see anyone get seriously injured running through that room. However, we had a famulous trip. There are not even words that can explain the view from the deck. We ate every meal in the house and had the most amazing weather. It truely was a trip of a lifetime. Thank you for making that possible.

Owner response: Thank you for your response. For the 2012 summer rental season this chalet was offered as a 5 bedroom 4 bath with care taker on premises. This is what you agreed to and received when you booked the chalet for 2012. Due to the number of inquiries for 2013 Summer, we updated the webite in late August 2012 and added the 6th bedroom and 5th bath. Regarding the box in the office, it is a ventilation duct system. Sorry it spooked you. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and come back soon.
Incredible View, Beautiful Home
Incredible View, Beautiful Home
Our family of 8 stayed here the first week in August 2012, and this house is everything advertised and more. When you enter the home and see the unbelievable view of Kachemak Bay and the Homer Spit, you will be thrilled - it is truly incredible. After 4 days in Seward, with activities planned non stop, we enjoyed the relaxing time we had to spend at this house. We all had our own private bedroom, and the large kitchen and open living/dining arrangement fit our needs perfectly. After our busy days, we could all join together and cook a good meal, while enjoying that awesome view. The bedrooms were all cozy and quiet and we all slept well while we were there. We did not use the loft upstairs, except to watch the Olympics on the big TV. We had a toddler with us and he enjoyed the toys in what we called the playroom which is adjacent to the loft. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, and we only ate out one meal while we were in Homer (at the Homestead, down the road from this house, highly recommended!). The washer and dryer was a tremendous help to us. Everything was very clean and well maintained. One thing I would mention is that we had to watch our toddler like a hawk while we were on the deck as the railing is not child safe, although fine for adults. We took a water taxi to Kachemak Bay State Park and enjoyed a hike to Grewingk Glacier, and we spent some time on the Spit shopping in the unique stores. We visited Bear Creek Winery and that was fun, and two of the guys played at the little par 3 golf course down the road and had a blast. This house was perfect for us, and we are so happy that we were able to stay here. Our friends arrived a few days after us and texted me a beautiful picture taken from the deck! I wish we were still there, but we are hoping to return sometime soon.
