Great Home

Guest: CMM (Arlington, VA)
Date of Stay: 04/01/12 Review Submitted: 04/09/12

An amazingly beautiful and well-kept home on a beautiful piece of property. The large dining room table and nice kitchen with granite counter tops served as a focal point of our stay. We set up puzzles at another table. 5 adults and two children (2 and 3-1/2 yrs old) enjoyed the home. We twice traveled to both Berkeley Springs and Cacapon State Park and enjoyed both destination immensely. The view from the top of Cacapon is something to behold. Both of our kids literally cried the whole morning we packed up to go and insisted our time was supposed to be 7 weeks at the home, not just one.

Beautiful Snowy Weekend

Guest: Rosemary B. (Fredericksburg, VA)
Date of Stay: 10/28/11 Review Submitted: 11/30/11

The first snow of the season made the weekend extra special. Warm fire, hike in the woods and we topped it off with a soak in the hot tub while it was snowing! FABULOUS! The view is beautiful, the kitchen is well equipped and there are plenty of puzzles, board games, a pool table, basketball, and more. The home is clean and well cared for. It was our 2nd year to stay in this lovely location and no doubt we will be there next fall too. The owner is helpful, accommodating and prompt in returning the deposit. 8 of us enjoyed this great place for a girls’ weekend away. There is plenty of room and big tables inside and out that easily seated all of us! Thank you so much for another GREAT weekend!

Owner response:With each passing year, the home glows even more through all of the good times it's witnessed. We were there over Thanksgiving with family and I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. The home may be too comfortable, the long weekends are not enough to enjoy its atmosphere. We are routinely updated things and think its important that a guest's stay be better than they'd expected. Thanks - Greg & Susie

Perfect!

Guest: Chels (Stroud, Gloucestershire, UK)
Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 11/25/11

My family stayed at the cabin in October and I cannot recommend it highly enough. There was something for everyone - from my 7 year old sister to my 28 year old husband to my 57 year old father! The girls in the group loved the hot tub and the boys spent hours on the lake and in the basement game room. The house literally had everything you could ever need and the owner was so helpful. We couldn't get the hot water started up our first day there and so we called the owner who talked us through it over the phone which was really appreciated it. The area is so peaceful and the house and lake are stunning - it was a perfect choice and we'd definitely use it again.

Unbeatable Place for a Getaway

Guest: Matt M.
Date of Stay: 09/16/11 Review Submitted: 10/06/11

A bunch of us guys needed a little bit of a vacation before summer was over. I cannot imagine a better place. I've stayed in a couple dozen rentals over the years and this is certainly the nicest--and a great bargain. It had everything we needed and forgot (like bug spray) and some things we didn't know we needed (like all the boats). The pictures can't show how spacious and well-appointed the house is. Nice architecture and unique! There ended up being only 6 of us, and there was more than enough room for everyone. We had a great time paddling on the lake, lazing in the hot tub, grilling, and playing ALL the games in the game room. The big flat screen in the great room was also nice for Sunday football. The sleeper chairs are the best! Not to mention that the owner, Greg, went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. Thanks! I'd recommend this rental to anyone, and I hope to come back myself.

5 Stars!

Guest: Elaine (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 08/06/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

Our stay at Greg & Susie's log home was outstanding. The home had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed swimming, relaxing on floats and kayaking in the lake. We took a nature walk around the lake on the surrounding trail. Took a few road trips to Berkley Springs and Harper's Ferry (great shops and restaurants). Also make a trip to the Ice Creamery in the town of Hedgesville, yum! Would definitely rent again!

My friends and I had a great, relaxing weekend in this big, beautiful home. There are plenty of options available that will allow anyone to have a great time - big TV, cozy fireplace, inviting hot tub, huge, gorgeous kitchen, kayaks for the lake, etc. We really enjoyed our stay and I look forward to visiting again! Thank you for accommodating us!!

This is a fabulous house! They provide the sheets and towels and you don't have to wash them before you leave! That made it the BEST vacation ever! It is so peaceful. Bliss was hot tubing and kayaking on the pond! Just heavenly! Very comfortable house, lots to do from board games to pool and air hockey. Fully stocked kitchen with all the cooking untensils. Personal space for all 8 of us!

Such a fun vacation at this beautiful log cabin!

We had three families, each with children, stay here for one week and we had such a great time! As others have said, the pictures really do not do this property justice- it is impeccably decorated and the views of lake are phenomenal! Even though we could all be together, we all had separate spaces to get away, when needed. The owners were wonderful when we had any questions and were always just a phone call away. We loved kayaking and fishing, but we were all a bit shy when it came to swimming, as we saw a snake and a few snapping turtles. We saw several families swimming during our stay, however, and one lady swam the length of the lake most days we were there! We would not hestitate to recommend this rental to other families needing a secluded, quiet getaway with plenty of space for everyone!

Best family vacation ever! Can't wait to get back

Guest: Tiffany (Loudoun County, VA)
Date of Stay: 07/24/10 Review Submitted: 08/09/10

I have to agree with every positive comment made so far. My family "survived" just fine w/o internet (there are wifi hotspots in Berkley Springs if you simply cannot stand being "off the grid") and our phones worked. The pics on the website, while they are impressive, really do not do the cabin justice. The level of quality furnishings and comfortable bedding is tops, and the whole place was clean and tidy upon arrival. If I were to build my own retreat, I would use Greg & Susie's Sleepy Hollow home as a model and probably wouldn't change a thing! I am already planning my next family visit (we live about an hour away) as well as a girl's weekend. It really is the best place to "get away from it all" but still want for nothing. Just pack a swimsuit, comfy clothes and stock up on snacks and libations on your way out (there is a grocery store and liquor store in Hedgesville on the way to the cabin from 81), and you're set! The best surprise was the closet full of toys for my 4 1/2-yr-old son. He thought Christmas came early when he found all of the Legos & trains! Greg & Susie, you should be quite proud of this home, and thank you for offering it to appreciative families like us. We shall return!

Owner response:Thanks Tiffany - We aim high because we want people to have a wonderful visit. We want every guest's experience to be high quality and indelible - Greg

Better Than Advertised

Guest: Spring Golf Trip (Richmond, VA)
Date of Stay: 04/18/10 Review Submitted: 04/30/10

Stayed here for our annual family golf trip because of its proximity to The Woods and surrounding golf courses. All we needed was our clubs and some food. The house had every other amenity you needed to feel at home. Golfed in the morning and then enjoyed fishing off the private dock, kayaking in the private lake, playing pool in the huge game room or just relaxed on the back deck while enjoying the view. This is a great alternative to booking a rental house directly through The Woods Resort.

I just want to take the time to thank you for the fantastic weekend we had at your cabin. When we arrived, I couldn't believe how gorgeous the place was - far nicer than the pictures on the HomeAway website. And then as we began cooking, we realized that the kitchen had everything we could've possibly wanted. Thank you very much!!!

Wonderful Cabin in the Woods!

Guest: Tricia and Juan (Cleveland, Ohio, USA)
Date of Stay: 11/20/09 Review Submitted: 12/08/09

Susie and Greg's cabin was the perfect place for our reunion with 4 other couples. The cabin was beautiful, very clean, and spacious. It had all the amenities you could possibly need; TV, fireplace, hot tub, game room, etc. The husbands were particularly fond of the gameroom and spent hours there. The kitchen was well-equipped and there was plenty of table space for everyone to sit down at once for dinner. The scenery was also beautiful. We had a picturesque view of the lake and surrounding woods. We even saw a curious little fox on our last day there. Overall we had a wonderful time and would certainly be back. We would definitely reccomend this to adults and familes with children. Thanks for such a nice weekend!

Each Fall me and my closest girlfriends rent a cabin for a girls weekend getaway. In the past we had visited Coolfont however when we saw pictures of your log home we decided we would change locations this year. Needless to say we are so glad we did. Your home is even more breath-taking in person! We had such an enjoyable and relaxing stay. From the wonderful kitchen, large dining table/area, to the hot tub with the spectacular views...we couldn't have asked for a better trip! We enjoyed our quality time together and felt right at home in your beautiful log home! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us -- we will definitely plan to visit again next Fall!

Our family had a wonderful time in your truly BEAUTIFUL log home. The room arrangements were great, the furnishings were top of the line. We loved using the deck with its' BBQ and jazuzzi. We took great advantage of the lake with your deck, canoe and kayaks. The children enjoyed the electronic games and we used the pool table for a few fun challenges. Grandma & Grandpa loved their bedroom with private bath and porch. To top it all off, we thad a wonderful visit to the Antietam Civil War battlefield one day and white water rafting on the Potomic another. So thank you very much. We highly recommend your home as a vacation site to all, and hope to return again.

Excellent Vacation Home

Date of Stay: 08/15/09 Review Submitted: 08/24/09

We just got back from our very relaxing vacation. Greg and Susie thought of everything, even things I wouldn't imagine they would have, they had. The cabin is beautiful! The hot tub was great. We loved kayaking and swimming in the lake. The rafts are a great idea, so relaxing! We will definitely be back! The owners are so accomodating and answered all of our questions prior to our stay. They even called to see how everything was during our stay. I would certainly recommend this cabin to our friends. We had a lovely time and we didn't want to leave. Thanks so much!

Great weekend get-away!

Guest: PittsburghMomof3 (Pittsburgh, PA)
Date of Stay: 07/23/09 Review Submitted: 07/27/09

What a wonderful home...the owners have really thought of everything. Unlike other homes where you have to bring "everything but the kitchen sink", here you really just need to bring yourself, your loved ones, and your clothes. All the little touches really add to the feel of the home. And what can we say about the kayaks, canoes, rafts, game room, etc...never a dull moment. There were 9 of us...6 adults and 3 kiddos - we all had our own space, but also fit around the dining room table (a local grocery is about 10 mins away). The owners were so kind to be a phone call away when we had questions. The book of information provided covers house details (like how to work the tv/hot tub/electronic dart game/etc.) and area attractions. We went to Antietam National Battlefield on the way home...about 40 minutes from the cabin, but very easy to get to. Remember, no internet service, limited cell phone service (in the house - we always got a signal at the end of the driveway), so research before you arrive. I would highly recommend this home.

WOW! Better than the Pictures!

My DH , and Two DD's (ages 10 and 13) and I rented this house for the week of July 4th. It was even more beautiful than I was expecting. Susie and Greg have thought of everything to make the place a real home away from home. All we needed to bring were ourselves and our clothes! The lake is beautiful, and the Kayaks were awesome- even my 10 year old was able to tool around the lake without any problems. The hot tub, grill, pool table, air hockey and big screen TV added to our pleasures!! The location is great, but expect to drive at least 30 minutes to most major attractions, although hiking is great within a few miles of the house. We did the River Outfitters whitewater rafting trip- which I would recommend highly, as they provide lunch on the river 1/2 way thorugh the four hour trip. Greg and Susie have a big book with lots of brochures of things to do in the area, but there is no internet, so make sure you research ahead. We cannot say enough about the beautiful, clean and relaxing home- Can't wait to go back! thaks Greg and Susie for sharign your home!

Wow!! What a Relaxing Place (& so much fun too!)

Guest: Jim & The Gang from DC (Washington D.C.)
Date of Stay: 03/20/09 Review Submitted: 03/09/10

Had a fantastic time at this log home! Stayed there with 4 other adults and 4 kids - everyone had a great time! There was plenty of room with lots of place to escape to. The house is set up so well and has so many finishing touches I can't believe it is a rental. I was worried about the kids being bored but they were off discovering the different areas in the house and playing with everything. The Wii, pool table, hot tub and swings ensured they were always busy. It was too cold to swim but very picturesque. Greg & Susie had deer food there for us to use. Relaxing on the deck with a glass of wine in the evening - wow! We all slept so well and didn't want to leave. Our expectations were exceeded by leaps and bounds! Hope to come back when we can swim & fish the lake. Thank you soooo much!
