The wife and I are avid surfers, that is why we are married! We wanted the best possible surfing we could get at a budget price and Costa Rica proved more than we could have dreamed. This home was beautiful and had more than we could have ever wanted as all we needed was the outdoor shower and chair hammocks. The wireless internet allowed us to keep in contact with family and friends back home, though we didn't use it after the first day except for wave forcasting. The location is perfect for those wanting to surf Playa Hermosa and not deal with the crowds of Jaco. We literally surfed for 5 days straight, all day! This area still has places where you will be the only ones out and the waves are extrodinary. We had 3 perfect days of 5-6ft waves and then a south swell showed up with heights in the 10-12ft range. The beach breaks around the area do tend to closeout at that height but we still went out for our dawn sessions to surf by ourselves. We went to a point break (only a gorgeous 1 hour drive from the house) called boca barranca for our afternoon/evening sessions during the swell to find perfect long lefts. I think we can guarantee that they were the best waves of our lives and we lived in hawaii for a while. I say that because we are goofy footed and we surfed some of the longest waves of our lives by ourselves for at least 1 hour every session. We didn't do any sightseeing or activities besides surfing though I do recommend pulling over at the crocodile bar and walking out on the bridge to see real costa rica wildlife. Every time we came back from the beach the warm real wood furniture of the house greeted us along with an iguana that lives next to the entrance gate. We will be turning this into a yearly trip and hope to return to this house until we can afford to buy our own! Also, the more famous and even longer point break pavones is only 4 hours away from the house so we still have much to do! Special thanks to Aileen for opening up your home to us and the groundskeeper Carlos who greeted us at the door even though we were 5 hours late arriving due to rental car mix ups. The Ticos are an amazing people and we were welcome wherever our 1st grade spanish took us. No obligations just Pura Vida!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing home! We had beautiful weather and nice waves in the heart of the rainy season and could not have asked for a more wonderful first vacation together. We already miss swinging on your front porch and watching the sunrise with our Costa Rican coffee! We really enjoyed your guide to CR and list of local favorites---they are now our favorites as well! Everyone in Hermosa was so hospitable (including Carlos!)....Thanks again and PURA VIDA!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

This is a cute, comfortable cottage to relax in. We were in Costa Rica for a week in August and enjoyed the stay. Close to town, fishing and zip lines! Aileen was very helpful and has lots of info on Costa Rica. I would recomend a vehicle larger than a Yaris due to road conditions. We would stay at the cottage again! Thanks for everything! October 2009 will be my third time here. I can't wait to wake up in the mornings, drinking my coffee on the porch, seeing the red macaws flying overhead, watching the hummingbirds in the gardens and picking fresh fruits from the trees. Jaco is just a short trip for shopping and dining. Or have some of the best tuna you have ever tasted at the local resturants in Hermosa. Walk the beach, enjoy a smoothie, and visit the turtle reserve at the end of Playa Hermosa. The best of Costa Rica, volcanos and rainforests are only a short trip away. ENJOY LIFE!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Me and my friends stayed at this property for 8 days and had an amazing time. When you open the front gate of the property, you are immediately welcomed by a lush, well-maintained garden of fruit trees, flowers and nature. The house itself is warm and inviting. The furniture in the house is made locally and out of materials that are indigenous to Costa Rica. The kitchen is perfect and well equipped. The bedrooms are comfortable and offer sleeping arrangements for up to six adults. In the backyard, there is a wonderful patio which includes a dining table and BBQ. The house is centrally located and is within just a few miles of several beaches. Our favorite beach was Esterillos. Perfect for surfers and sunbathers. Jaco is just a hop skip and a jump away and offers several restaurants, night clubs, tourist attractions and of course, another beautiful beach. We also had the opportunity to visit several waterfalls, including an area called, Tres Pacinas or Tres Pilas (depending on who you ask). It's basically three waterfalls and each feeds into its own natural pool. There is a natural water slide carved into the rocks, cliff jumping and a rope swing. A must visit in our opinion. Fritz and Aileen have really outdone themselves. From start to finish they were extremely accommodating and informative. They were there to answer any questions and provide you with a wealth of information, including an idea guide for your trip. Their caretaker, Carlos, is an awesome dude who lives in the area. He is always available if you need him or have any questions about anything. All in all, our stay at this property couldn't have been any better. We will certainly make a return visit. I highly recommend this property for your visit to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

On my last trip to Costa Rica, I spent 5 days in this beautiful house. As far as I'm concerned, Fritz and Aileen have created the perfect vacation home. The garden is private and beautiful. The house is well designed, well maintained and provides all the basics. It's simple, very tasteful and very easy to keep clean. I'm relaxing just thinking about it. There are beautiful walks in any direction from the house. There's even a yoga center right down the road. Beach, town and great eats are a short drive away. Thanks Fritz and Aileen for doing all of the work to create a true restorative oasis for the rest of us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

About the owner: Avid travelers, we longed for a place to call our escape form the stressors of daily live. Once we saw Costa Rica, we fell in love with its natural beauty. Equally impressive is the locals. Funny, charming, welcoming and most endearing, we have made many good friends we now call family. From the beaches, to the mountains, there is an amazing array of nature to explore, enjoy and remember for a lifetime!
Why the Owner Chose Playa Hermosa:
