Step through the gateway into the enchantment of the private courtyard of this vintage structure, now a country guest house, part of a locally historic property situated on nearly five acres overlooking Deer Harbor with over 500' of walkable private clam shell beach.
Take in the expanse of lawn leading down to the harbor with its boats resting at anchor and the distant view of the snow capped Olympic Range to the south.
As you enter your cottage through the French doors, the heavy, old beams, Rumford fireplace and many candled wrought iron chandelier may make you feel you've slipped back in time further than the building's early 1900's origins. The furnishings are largely antiques, the fabrics lush and the ambiance comfortable, relaxed and elegant.
The kitchen is fully equipped, from the Jenn-Air cooktop to the ironed Italian linens. Choose eating at the charming gate-legged table in the dining area or on the old fashioned porch replete with early wicker furniture.
Later, put your feet up on the large ottoman in front of a roaring fire. Sip some wine with someone special or just lean back and enjoy a good book. Listen to those special songs on the CD player. And be sure to set the right mood with rheostat lighting and candles.
You can view the 32" LCD HDTV from the king sized bed in the large bedroom area. Better yet, you can view the harbor shimmering in the magic of moonlight.
The bath is a fantasy of old and new, rustic and refined. Luxuriate in the warmth of radiant heated floors, large two-person shower and deep soaking tub overlooking the courtyard and harbor beyond. Indulge yourself with thick bath sheets, special soaps, candles..... The list goes on.
Or maybe you feel like soaking in your private hot tub just outside your door and enjoying the activities on the harbor and the crackle of a fire in the firepit. Grill freshly caught salmon and serve it with a selection from our kitchen garden.
Within walking distance are whale watching and kayak tours, sailing charters, rental boats and bicycles, walking trails and a bird sanctuary. There's also a restaurant, a convenience market and a snack bar.
Turtleback Mountain Preserve is located just two miles from your cottage. With its 1500 acres of rock outcrops, grasslands, wildflowers, Garry Oaks and magnificent views, it is a hiker's dream.
Moran State Park, with over 5000 acres of virgin forest, has many hiking and biking trails, lakes and picnic grounds. It's crown jewel, Mt. Constitution, offers some of the most spectacular water views in North America.
Artists' studios and galleries are favorite places to visit, as are the many shops selling locally made goods.
Don't forget that one of the best things you can do is absolutely nothing! Just sit back and enjoy the views.
The food on Orcas Island is very good! You'll find local produce, meats and seafood at the fine restaurants and markets. Try Judd Cove Oysters or Coffelt Farm lamb, a salad of organic greens or a dessert with wild blackberries. You won't want to miss the Farmer's Market held every Saturday from May through October.
Yes, if you're looking for that perfect romantic hideaway, this is the place!

We stayed at the Carriage House at The Place at Cayou Cove, on wonderful Orcas Island, for 4 nights in early September, 2011. The facilities are excellent, very-well equipped and furnished, and marvelously relaxing and comfortable for two. The entire grounds are immaculately groomed, quiet, and the hostess Valerie and her staff are very friendly, warm, and helpful with all sorts of tips of where to eat (some very good choices), what to do, etc. If you have the time and inclination, do take the Biplane trip out of the airport at Eastsound - a great way to really see the SanJuans, and all narrated by the very experienced pilot/owner Rod Magner who has only been doing this for the last 21 years. Our flight was the highlight of our too short visit to Orcas, and the Carriage House at Cayou Cove can't be beat for the very best, comfortable acommodations on the whole island. We will return!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

We adored the Carriage House at Cayou Cove! You are surrounded by acres of gorgeous, well kept garden bliss. There are only 3 cabins on the property (hidden very well by all that beautiful landscape), so you rarely see anyone - minus the wildlife! You are sure to meet their VERY sweet and friendly tabby cat; and find yourself in the company of rabbits, donkeys and birds of all kinds. But most importantly...at Cayou Cove, you'll find a wonderfully relaxing retreat. The Carriage House is very private. It's surrounded by trees and has a privacy gate that leads you into a "secret garden" breakfast nook. The deck looks out to the habor and the huge lawn; where we sat every late-afternoon and watched the seaplanes land/take off as the anchored boats quietly bobbed in the water. We also threw a blanket down late one night on the lawn and watched the shooting stars zoom by. So peaceful and so romantic!! The bed is a cloud. The kitchen was fully stocked. The bathroom is HUGE. And they give you everything you need (shampoo, soap, nice towels, comfy robes & slippers). The hot tub and firepit were a blast! Oh, and a major plus for us is that we were able to bring our dog. And she even got a wonderful little gift basket upon arrival. Charles and Valerie will make you feel very welcomed, you'll find yourself not wanting to leave. We did, so we stayed an extra day! Thank you so much for our lovely weekend escape!

We just got home the other night. We loved staying in your cottage. We will be back. Just a question of when. Jay and I own a rental home in Maine. We had such a nice experience at your cottage, we wondered what we could do so our guests have the same feeling about our house as we had from staying with you. We’re going to be remodeling our master bath later in the year. We loved your entire bath suite so much, we’ll be incorporating some of your ideas into our bath area. Your grounds are so totally lovely. The garden was just perfect. I loved being able to pick fresh asparagus just for the munching. We loved it. I’m sure you hear it all the time, but I hope you never tire of hearing how happy you make your customers. See you again!
