Would you like to rent a beautiful lake home that has sandy frontage for a reasonable price? Take a closer look at this northern Minnesota retreat!
Please Note: Our 2006 26 foot Party Barge Pontoon is also available for rent for $995 per week (June, September and October rates are lower depending on the week). I also have a 2001, 3 person fishing boat to rent for for $299 (1/2 Off in June, September, and October). You are welcome to use a row boat as well as a new paddle boat that are included in the rates.
We are on BEAUTIFUL Big Sandy Lake; a 6000 acre premier lake just 2 hours North of the Cities in Aitkin County. There are 250 lakes in our county! Because of its size and beauty, Big Sandy Lake is at the top of the desired place to own in the county (represented by the highest land values). You will understand why when you visit this wonderful lake.
Our 4350 square foot home has spectacular views and was built in 2000 with 1st class construction through and through. It is situated on a 9 acre lot with a wide sandy swimmable shoreline that has that Northern MN feel. The lot is wrapped by trees including tall pines, maples, birch, oaks and aspens to give you that "Up North" feel. If you are looking for privacy, our 1200 foot driveway and 300 foot wide treed lot will fit the bill!
This home features an indoor full size twin engine hot tub, indoor sauna, two home theaters, custom bar and much much more. We decorated entirely with cabin accents throughout which transforms this lake house internally into a elegant cabin. Walls, ceilings, and floors are accented with maple, hickory, aspen, oak, cedar, hemlock, pine and ash. The result is a warm comfortable yet elegant feel. Every bed was hand made from log and all of the bedrooms have custom log dressers as well. You will never want to leave.
We stocked our 2nd home with blenders, toasters, coffee grinders, games and other accouterments that you would expect in this caliber of home.
Rates are based off of a 4 person occupancy. Add $19.99 per person per day for additional people including children. The decor and fabrics are not toddler friendly and you would not enjoy yourself while you worry about those little hands getting into all of the interesting accents. :) Hence, the minimum age in the party is 7 years old. Add $150 for the final cleaning.
Sorry: No young adults without your parents. Our home is pet free and smoke free. You are welcome to kennel your pet in the garage or outdoors but they cannot enter the home.

Local Area:
Our home is located on Big Sandy Lake which is just 7 miles north of McGregor MN or 40 minutes south of Grand Rapids off of highway 65. Big Sandy is a 6500 acre lake with several bays and over 78 miles of sandy shoreline. When you add in two rivers and a small attached lake, the total areas is over 10,000 acres. You will never get bored of the incredible views; you can snowmobile or boat for hours on end.
Once you head north of McGregor MN, the landscape transforms into that northern Minnesota feel which is adjacent to Savannah State Forest where you will find beautiful trails for walking and snowmobiling in the winter.
When you get hungry, visit one of the 5 restaurants that are located on this premier lake. I'm walking distance from 2 restaraunts. There is a 27 hole championship golf course minutes up the road called Minnesota National. Visit their new 18,000 square foot lodge style club house with finer dining.
Big Sandy is famous for its large pan fish. The DNR has stocked the lake with walleyes. It is common for people to catch walleyes and crappies right off of our dock.

Our family loves to vacation! But it's tough to rationalize owning two beautiful vacation properties without renting them out.
Sherry and I enjoy decorating and we take pride in creating a feel that is warm and inviting. Both of our vacation homes look better in person that what you see in the pictures; there are no surprises.
I promise that you will be delighted with our attention to detail every step of the way.
Thanks for looks!
Sincerely,
Steve & Sherry
Why the Owner Chose McGregor
Big Sandy is one of the best lakes in the area that met our criteria. We wanted several restaurants that you can boat to.as well as good fishing that is close to the Twin Cities. We also wanted to buy on a larger lake so we could jetski and never get board.
Finally, we chose our spot because it is close to town (avoiding a long drive to get a loaf of bread) and most importantly, we wanted privacy. We therefore selected an 8.6 acre lot lined with trees. This gave us our "up north" feel and privacy that we wanted. :)

I spent a week at Steve's cabin over Memorial Day weekend 2011. The cabin is the kind of quality you would expect from an executive rental. The kids loved the freedom they had around the property they were able to roam around the house, fish off the dock, pick apples off the trees in the front yard; etc. The dock was large enough for us to tie up our 24 ft boat, they had dock guards set up before we arrived making it very easy to tie up. I must also touch on the cleanliness of the cabin, this cabin was as clean as our family home so being a "germaphobe" even I was comfortable. We really enjoyed the fact that it didn't feel like we were staying in someone else's cabin which I imagine is difficult for the owners to create that sense of ownership for each of their guests - but they have done a fine job at this! I would recommend upgrading to the golf cart, I would be easily discouraged from walking back and forth from the lake to the cabin if say we forgot sun tan lotion in the cabin. I have recommended this cabin to several friends hoping they can experience and create similar family memories like we were able to! Thanks Steve! Jessica

This beautiful excursion was a short and calming drive away from the fast paced, stress inducing Twin Cities. The experience up at Big Sandy truly created some amazing memories for my wife and me. There were so many intricacies that made the experience all the more special, from the overall quality of the decor, to the amazing views of the lake through the vaulted ceiling/walls. The property is gorgeous and you truly feel secluded inside the confounds of the very private setting. The hot tub and sauna room is a must especially when it begins to get into the colder seasons. Most importantly, the owner Steve was ALWAYS accessible for anything we needed and further more always accommodating to any of our inquires! The overall experience was 10 times better than we could have expected....Renting a hotel suite compared to this?... Not even in the same ball park! Summer or winter, this place is a special getaway with owners that not only know how to build beautiful homes, but know how to give their guests unforgettable experiences. Thanks Steve and your family, for allowing us to have such a wonderful time, I am sure we will be back sometime again within the year. Happy New Year! Thanks again, for making our experience! Our group of friends have been visiting different cabins "up north" annually for eight years (and counting!). Yours had to be one of our favorites! The home was beautiful, and the location was perfect. There was plenty to do at the house, and on, and around the lake. We appreciated you personally showing us around the property upon arrival, and making sure we were all set. Thanks again!!!

I highly recommend Steve's home for anyone looking for a great time "up north" in Minnesota. The location is fantastic. The bay is perfect for boating, The convenience of having Big Sandy Lodge very close is also nice, so you can take advantage of their restaraunt, boat launch, etc. The home is very nice, with huge rooms and all the ammenities you would expect. We used the grill several times, enjoyed the big screen to view movies, and cooked s'mores in the fire pit. The sunset views were incredible as we watched them from the balcony and down on the beach. Steve is very thorough and was always available for questions. Don't hesitate to rent this one!

We stayed at this lake home in early June of 2011 and our family had a blast! I am an interior decorator by trade and I was very impressed. The owner picked out all kinds of interesting decor and we loved the fabrics as well as the furnishings. We had a group of 10 people and we had no shortage of room. This proved to be important because early June had record rainfall. So when it was unpleasant outside, our family spent time together in the sauna, hot tub, and watching movies on their 2 home theater systems. They had outdoor games, indoor games so we spent time together as a family. There was still plenty of time where the sky cleared during the unseasonably rainy week so we took advantage of spending time on Steve’s huge pontoon boat. Again, space wasn’t a concern on this deluxe pontoon. It was very easy to navigate. We fished off of the boat and caught our fair share of large Crappie fish. We had a couple of small problems and the owner immediately resolved them the same day. We loved it so much we are planning on booking again in 2012.

I just returned from a wonderful Vacation with my adult children and grandkids. A full cabin, but with plenty of room and activities. I've been going to Big Sandy since the 60's, and this trip was without a doubt one of the best times and absolutely the best accomodations i've ever spent time in. The place was spotless when we arrived, and Steve took his time to go over operation and procedures for all the amenities. All of the beds are very comfortable, and the amenities are outstanding. Once we got settled in, we all sat and just giggled at how beautiful the home and the grounds were. It is a bit of a walk to the beach, and some steps down to the water, but with the golf cart available, we had no trouble getting one disabled daughter onto the boat or on the beach. The property is located next to Big Sandy Resort, which on the weekends can get pretty busy. The resort did have live music on the Saturday we were there. While you could hear the band, it wasn't distracting at all. Wildlife is all over the area and on the property. Deer were seen virtually every day running through the yard and neighboring fields. Even a Snapping Turtle managed to make an appearance one morning... Bring insect repellent if you intend to be outside much, the mosquitos are fierce, and hide in the fields and the hillside to the lake during the day. If you go for much of a hike, you'll be glad you sprayed yourself with it. The Fishing Boat is ok for 2 people and served it's purpose well. We managed to get into a few large Northerns and even some very nice Walleye during our stay. The 'Party Barge' was a great time for all there, and while a bit 'intimidating' to the novice boater, was very easy to manuver and dock. Overall, Steve and Sherry were excellent hosts, even responding to our one 'emergency' when we accidentally locked ourselves out of one of the lower level Bedrooms, and have a beautiful fully equipped rental for families or small groups. I would heartily recommend this property to anyone thinking of visiting Big Sandy.

Our family decided to do something different so we stayed over Thanksgiving at this lake home with my brother and his family. The clincher for us was the internal sauna and hot tub! I also needed high speed Internet to keep up with work and I had a full cell phone signal throughout the house. Although we had 10 people in our group, there was plenty of area so we never felt cramped. We had a relaxing time playing games, watching movies, and reading a book under the covers. The neat part was that we were walking distance to a fantastic restaurant that we used for an evening nightcap. :) You can rent this with home with the knowledge that everything is as advertised. We couldn't have been happier! While we would definitely return, we plan on exploring another area and home next Thanksgiving. Thanks VRBO! W/R, Danna
