Charming Mykonian family villa rented on a 'self catering basis' only although we do provide bedding! This is a much lived in and much loved house! If you want olde worlde Greek charm with heavenly views at affordable prices, then read on. If you are looking for five star accommodation - you need to go elsewhere.
The Villa is situated on two main levels with amazing views 350 meters above St.Stephanos beach overlooking the crystalline Aegean to Delos and beyond. Three en-suite double bedrooms with fabulous views, big lounge, large terraces with a deep plunge pool and garden, veranda with soft furnishing, dining veranda, vine covered walkways and the most beautiful views in the Mediterranean to Delos and beyond.
The House is formed mainly from an old Mykonian farmer's house, stone floors, dining veranda and its own Well. The land is 475 square meters, and the house 145 square meters, with around 90 square meters of terraces. It has four large bedrooms, (of which we rent 3). Two are on the pool terrace level with basic but functioning en-suite facilities and beautiful views. The third bedroom is in the main old house, simple kitchen, lounge and veranda level, also with sea views. A few steps down is the BBQ patio, (we have an old Greek chimney style barbeque and we tend to cook outdoors most of the time), the traditional Well (covered with a heavy stone slab to stop kids getting access) and the honeysuckle and bougainvillea climbers. The roof of the old house forms part of the terrace that has another veranda upon it, this is ‘blue corner’ with possibly the most beautiful views in the whole Mediterranean over Delos and twelve other islands on a clear day.
Sitting here and gazing out over the shimmering sea is an absolute delight at any time of day or night. On calm mornings, the wake from a yacht coming towards the harbor can be seen as it spreads all the way to Delos. At night when the gargantuan cruise boats leave, the floating cities trail reflections of a million lights as they drift majestically off.
The two levels are connected by a vine covered stairway with rose trees down one side. In the small garden there are pine and olive trees, flowering shrubs and roses. In the heat of the summer we sling a hammock from the pine tree branches and there are two swings for the kids.
The beach at Ag. Stephanos is about a 5-8 minute stroll down the hill. (10-15 back up!) and 150 mts down there is a Taverna ‘Limnou’ serving excellent fare at reasonable prices, a pool-bar and a mini-market for essentials.
The beach is a family favorite with an old jetty the kids love jumping and diving off, a good spread of sand and a mixture of tavernas and bars with a few very nice bijou boutique hotels just behind. One restaurant right on the beach is particularly good, with fresh home baked tomato bread, a good selection of meat and fish and and the best baked spicy feta around.
Mykonos, the most exciting and vibrant town in all Greece with the best nightlife and shopping is only three kilometers away. The town is a 5 minute ride on the bus which stops at the beach every 20 minutes or so and runs till 2 or 3 in the morning high season. At the beach are also car and scooter or quad-bike hire shops. A taxi can be taken into town from here or from the tavern or pool bar near us.
There is a €100. charge per party for the villa cleaning upon vacation and also a one off laundry cleaning charge of €75. both of which is paid directly to the housekeeper on arrival. We also ask for a €500. security / key deposit to be paid in cash to the housekeeper upon arrival. This deposit is returned to you the morning you vacate, once the villa has been checked. Maid service can be arranged upon request at an additional cost.
