DESCRIPTION OF THE HOUSE . The property is a typical 19th century village home on three floor levels with a narrow, winding stairway inside. The house is furnished with antique furniture. (if you are looking for a “three star lodging” our house is not for you!).
If you are looking to live like the French live in a small provencal village, then it is the right place. Five persons can stay comfortably in the house. It has four bedrooms, a living room , a kitchen and two bathrooms. It has also electricity, hot and cold water, shuttered windows and a red earthen tile floor. In cool weather, the house is equipped with electric radiators and a permanent unit (located in the upper dining room).
The entrance door is located at the beginning of a small pedestrian street where it is safe for children to play.
- Upper floor description:
The upper floor is light and airy, and has a nice view of the village. It has an equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, an electric stove with an oven, a microwave oven, a table where 4 people can sit, cabinets with pots and dishes, but no dishwasher. There is a large living room with a dining table with 6 chairs and a color TV-VCR-DVD in a corner with four armchairs. A large, modern armoire has linens and towels. Finally, the upper floor has a small separated bathroom with a sit-in bathtub with a hand-held shower, a sink and a sit-down toilet. There is telephone with an answering machine in the living room.
- Ground floor description (rez-de-chaussee):
The first floor, with high ceilings, has two bedrooms and a toilet. The master-bedroom has a queen size bed, a modern armoire with hangers and shelves with a nice view on the village. Against an interior wall is a sink with hot and cold water behind a curtain. There is also an antique armoire which is locked. The master-bedroom also has a telephone. The second bedroom has a single bed, a desk, a sink with hot, and cold water next to the washing machine with a nice view on a small medieval pedestrian lane.. One closet serves as a library with English books in one closet and another empty closet next to the bed to hang clothes. There is a separated bathroom with a toilet and a sink.
- Lower level description
The lower level, with low, arched ceilings, has two rooms and a bathroom. One room is locked for our private use. The available room has two single beds and a nice view on the village. The room has a small corner kitchenette (sink, electric stove (2 hotplates), small refrigerator, counter and cupboards. The bathroom has a stand-up shower, a toilet, mirror and sink. There is a telephone in the bedroom.
The house is furnished with linens and towels (including for a beach) located in an upper closet and some beach equipment in the rez-de-chaussee one bedroom storage closet. There is a washing machine in the single bedroom on the ground floor.
- Email, laptop, international calls
Our phone line is opened for local calls only. For international calls, use phone cards.
Laptops and email work well in our house.
Not a place for handicapped people. Bormes as well as our home are not a place for people who have difficulties with walking, going up stairs, climbing narrow winding street. Bormes is a hill village and our home is on three levels.
Trash: deposit your trash bags in one of the village trash collection places. The village prides itself on cleanliness and all guests are implored to participate in preservation of the clean village environment. You will find trash containers near the fountain across the street from the bakery.
Bakery: the bakery is two minutes from the house and has hot fresh bread and croissants everyday starting at 7:00 a.m.
Post Office: The Post Office is across the street from Pierre Toesca St.
Food and local wines: are all excellent! If you wish to learn to cook provencal cuisine , go see Thomas Caro at Lou Poulio Cantoun is a young American Chef and gives cooking classes (not during the summer).
Art: The village “artist-potier” Rene Terras and his wife Vivette Terras are good friends of ours. Rene makes beautiful pottery, say “bonjour” from us if you go visit their shop. (Open only during the summertime: otherwise his shop is in Pierrefeu, a nearby village).
There is a lot more to do: play golf at Valcros, hike the hills above Bormes, visit the islands and so on. You will find more information in our ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND BORMES-LES-MIMOSAS that we leave in the living-rooms.
Finally, a housekeeper will stop the day of your arrival to check if everything is fine. She will be your local contact and clean the house at the end of your stay.
