Accommodations:  House, 5 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 4 Baths (Sleeps 14)

Keywords:  3br/2ba House+ 2 Cottage units in completely enclosed High walled Property in Central yet quiet neighborhood in Tulum Pueblo-2miles frm beaches & 5 Blks to the magic of the town.

This romantic private stone-built home and cottage are enclosed in a high walled garden with many trees, tropical plants, birds, and a pool and waterfall fountain.. It is located in Tulum Pueblo, in the original Maya neighborhood, a land the Chan Santa Cruz Maya have inhabited for centuries. Be local or tourist as you like in this culturally rich and friendly place.

The Main House and Cottage can be rented separately or together. The Main House sleeps 10 and each of the Cottage Studio Units sleeps 2. Each house and each Cottage unit is very private from the other. Guests have come to stay at “Stone Tree” since 1985. They have come from many countries, singles, couples, and honeymooners, groups of families and friends of all ages from all walks of life. For a large group (max 14), you will need both houses. If you are a single person or couple, you will need only one of the guest cottage units. No worry for privacy if you are mixed group. Each house is very private from the other. You can mingle with other guests if you choose but if not, you will enjoy the privacy of your home.

Main House: With the exception of “Holiday Season”, the Main House 1st Floor only, can be rented if you are 4 or 5 people, providing kitchen/living-dining room (w/2 single beds that can form a king bed) and 1 bedroom with 1 single bed, a double bed and a large bathroom. On the 2nd floor are two bedrooms and a small room between them, leading to the bathroom with a small refrigerator. Bedroom #1 has large tiled terraza with hammocks and lounge chairs, table and chairs..a great place to sunbathe and a thatch roof covered area for shade. It also has a small balcony, king bed and closet. Bedroom #2 has a smaller terraza, a double bed and a single bed and a wonderful varnished hardwood floor of zapote.
A stairway from ground level leads up to Bedroom #1 and then continues on up to a flat, cement roof….another great spot for sunbathing, star gazing or knocking down a coconut from the tree growing alongside the house. The 2nd floor of the Main House is very private from the 1st floor with separate outside entrances to each of the 2nd floor bedrooms.

Cottage Units: The unit on ground level “Cottage Baja” is a Studio Room w/Dbl bed and kitchen at one end of room, a bathroom and closet. The upper Cottage unit, “Cottage Alta” is same as the lower unit except it has a Queen Bed with a balcony overlooking the pool. There is a stairway leading from ground level to a flat cement roof; great place for sunbathing etc.

It is a 4 block walk to the Main Plaza where there always seems to be some event to enjoy. This makes it easy to pad out the door and join in the fun with the locals. .".....the best reason to go to Mexico is the people; their gusto, their love of life. They make everyone feel happier!" said Robert Reid (see below). I agree.
Also close by (a fresh juice stand open every morning at 7am around the corner-, taco stands, and restaurants-Mexican, Italian, French, Argentinean, Chinese, Tai, Chilean, Cuban and Mayan -all making good use of the excellent local produce, meat and fresh fish. Accross the street is a little "in-house" tienda-very convenient to buy your basics. The cost of everything in town is much less than on the beach and the expanded choice of restaurants is a plus. About a mile from the house is a supermarket.

Surely Tulum and the surrounding areas have some of the most beautiful beaches, coral reefs, flora and fauna on the planet, subterranean rivers and many ancient ruins to explore. Our neighborhood is located a block from where a dense jungle begins that separates the town from the beaches and the Maya Ruins of Tulum. There is a bike path leading from town to the beaches, a distance of about 2 miles. Taxis are readily available and Bikes & Scooters can be rented nearby. If driving, beaches have easy access and parking.

Socorro: My manager, "Soco", is a Mexican grandmother and will attend to all your needs and you will love her and she will make you happy! Whether it be catering meals, babysitting, getting a taxi if you don’t want to walk out of the house, etc. Guests continue to rave on about her. Catering: She charges $5.00 per meal/ per personincluding fruit drink and she is from Mexico City and an excellent Mexican cook.

Massage: I have recently discovered a Mayan massage man and chiropractor who will come to the house to give you an hour’s massage. You will be amazed and kiss goodbye to some things your doctors have said were not fixable. He can fix them. He learned his art from his father and grandfather and charges $20.00 per session. The ancient art and wisdom of the Maya is very much alive in him.

Travel Tips: I give every confirmed guests 10 pages of my tips on places to visit in the area and I have received many thanks from previous guests how useful this was.

Come! We welcome you to "Stone Tree" and look forward to serving you. For guests "......considering coming from the USA, Mexico. is a lot safer than you might realize in spite of homeland security warnings. We tend to lump all of Mexico--a country the size of Western Europe--together. ...Yet it's in the 17 of the 31 states not named in the newly expanded warnings where you'll find the most rewarding destinations: the Yucatan Pensinsula..." excerpt from an article by Robert Reid, -Why you should go to Mexico- Robert Reid is Lonely Planet's New York based U.S. travel editor.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Since I have opened the houses to vacation rentors, it has been a pleasure to meet you in person when I happen to be there when you are and when not, to enjoy reading your remarks in the guest books in the houses. Tulum is growing leaps and bounds. My neighborhood remains much the same on a scale of things. Streets are paved now and fewer pigs roaming the street. Still there are completely abandoned beaches and new ceynotes and lagoons to explore and discover. Most enjoyable though is to touch base again with my wonderful Maya neighbors who continue to teach me so many things.

Owner's Map of Tulum

I discovered Tulum by accident. I had never taken a vacation. One evening a lifelong friend, a school teacher phoned and said she was pouring over a map and had a terrific idea. She wanted me to go with her to Tulum and stay on a white sand beach with our children and explore Maya Ruins for the summer. I was between jobs at the time and she was so insistent and I was too tired to protest so I agreed to go to this off the beaten path place in Mexico she had found on the map. We arrived and it began to look very sketchy that we would find a place to stay. The children were getting antsy and the road was barely a road. There were only 3 resorts on the beach and they were pretty much abandoned and nowhere to stay in town. but we found one abandoned resort on the beach and the owner agreed to rent to us a cabana with a bathroom and we cooked for our kids in their kitchen. We were the only tourists. We returned our rental car to Cancun the next day and spent an idyllic 2 months there on the beach with our children, hitching rides with the local maya into town to buy groceries. This is how I discovered Tulum. We were the only white faces in the area and one woman in town had a refrigerator and she sold ice cubes by the cube! This was quite a treat! We would sit on the curb enjoying our one ice cube before it melted. I found myself returning to Tulum and on about my 3rd trip there, a local Maya friend convinced me I should purchase a part of his property in town and I did. I have been returning every year since for 25 years and continue my love affair with Tulum and continue to discover new things every trip! Donna, Owner of Stone Tree Little Ceynot

Review July 2011 - 11 persones

Guest: rayou (Mexico City)
Date of Stay: 07/15/11 Review Submitted: 08/03/11

My family and I have stayed at Donna's house during 7 nights in July 2011. We were 11 persons and we rent the big house + the 2 small independant rooms. We inmediatly loved the place, it's quiet, charming, secure and Socoro gives an excellent extra service (she cooks great, she delivered us some quesadillas and we went to her resturant too). We highly recommend this place.

Beautiful and Very Relaxing

Guest: Alfonso and Friends (Cancun, Mexico)
Date of Stay: 05/01/10 Review Submitted: 05/13/10

Stone Tree is a beautiful and very relaxing environment. The grounds are landscaped to perfection with local flora and the house is very comfortable. The moment you walk into the house, you feel relaxed and "at home." We rented Stone Tree along with another family and everyone had plenty of room and slept very comfortably. The house had everything we needed...including air conditioning which is a huge bonus in the hotter months of the year. The house is centrally located in Tulum and close distance to the main strip and the beaches. Another great benefit was the professional, yet easy going demeanor of the owner. She was very pleasant to work with, responded almost immediately to our emails, and provided an incredibly detailed overview of all the places to see and things to do in Tulum. I highly recommend Stone Tree!
