Why the Owner Chose Soldotna
From 1997 to 2002 Jo was located in Sterling just outside the boundaries of the city of Soldotna (Russian word meaning Soldier) & in 2002 she purchased Abele Alaska Jos. Jo picked the name because in Utah where she grew up there where Aspens which are closely related to the Balsam poplars that is the most widely spread broadleaf tree in Alaska and is know for it’s deep roots. Closely related to the Hebrew & French Meaning ” A Breath” the Roman Goddess “Maia” & finally the white pass Yukon Route Railway from Skagway.
A long standing entrepreneur Jo used her business abilities, background in land development, Feng Shui & Designing and totally remodeled and landscaped the property in the heavily wooded area just a three minute walk from here front door to the Famous Kenai River fishing dock. Jo fell in love with the Turquoise color glacier feed Kenai River at first sight. The Kenai River is the most popular Sport fishing Destination in Alaska runs 82 miles (132km) westward from Kenai Lake in the Kenai Mountains. Jo enjoys fishing and floating the river for the King Salmon (Chinook) Silver, Red & Pink Salmon, Rainbow trout occasional Steel Head trout & Dolly Varden’s. Hiking, camping and exploring the endless trails & sight the Peninsula has to offer.

Jo came to Alaska in 1993 for filling her long time dreams since she was in the 5th grade traveling through Canada with her Grand Parents who also wished that one day they would travel to Alaska. Jo wrote her fifth grade report on the states of the United States on Alaska and from that day on she dreamed of all the places she would go and one day settle. Although she spent time in Wasilla she was not content. Loading up her truck & camping gear she began to tour Alaska. July 1996 Jo arrived in Soldotna & like the famous saying from the state of Utah where she was born she pro-claimed
“This Is the Place”.
