Furnished with family heirlooms, English antiques from Joseph Konrad, custom window treatments, fine accessories and linens, the house was carefully remodeled in 2006 retaining the character of the 50 year old Highlands cottage. Interior design was coordinated by family friend, Roddy Harris, of Roddy Harris Interiors in Atlanta.
The living room features a vintage stone wood-burning fireplace, a comfortable sofa, leather recliner, glider rocker and cozy club chair with ottoman. The TV and sound system are concealed in a custom built entertainment center. A selection of CDs, playing cards and a few games are available for the use of our guests. However, our CDs most likely reflect our age, therefore, you might like to bring your own. A DVD player is also located in this cabinet.
A round dining table that comfortably seats six is conveniently located between the kitchen and living room.
The new kitchen features stainless steel appliances including dual-fuel Jenn Air range, Kitchen Aid dishwasher, Amana refrigerator, granite countertops, fully stocked cooking utensils and pantry items for the gourmet cook. The new full-size Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer are conveniently located on the main level adjacent to the master bedroom.
The master bedroom, located on the main floor, decorated in a restful blue and white color scheme featuring antique blue and white porcelains, has a king size bed and an adjoining new bathroom addition. The extra large tiled shower, a separate water closet and his and hers sinks gives plenty of space for two.
The main floor guest room has a queen size bed with its focal point being a red and white family quilt hanging over the head of the bed.
A fun, lively red and white full tub/shower bath is located just off the guest room in the main level hallway.
The large upstairs room is the favorite place of children and adults alike. The two twin-size beds tucked in the end of the room allow for a good comfortable nights sleep or an afternoon nap. The TV, sofa and club chairs, a cozy window seat and a separate bathroom with a tub/shower give the occupants a quiet getaway from the rest of the guests and family. A computer is available on this floor for use of all the guests.
Most likely, the most enjoyed room in the house is the large screened in outdoor room nestled in the lush greenery. Complete with outdoor speakers, large dining table and 8 chairs, comfortable wicker sofa and chairs, old fashion rocking chairs and stone wood-burning fireplace, one can eat, read, nap, listen to music, enjoy the garden, the quiet or the many birds that call the Highlands area home.
The front porch, running most of the length of the house complete with old fashion porch rockers and a swing, lends itself to lazy morning coffee, quiet reflective moments or casual afternoon conversation.
A full unfinished basement completes the cottage. Off the street parking for 4 cars is provided on the property.
Our house is within a very short stroll to Mirror Lake and the surrounding area. Walking into town for a morning paper or a cup of coffee is an enjoyable outing. There is a booklet of walking and hiking trails and a map of Highlands for your use. You will also find quite a selection of books for your reading pleasure.
While the cottage is suited for school age children, because of the location of the stairs and the concrete steps going into the basement, it is not suitable for toddlers. Since there are quite a few antiques and sentimental family pieces in the house, we request that the furnishings be respected by our guests. No pets and no smoking, please.
Our house is located directly across the street from VRBO listing # 199761 and would be a convenient location for a group or family desiring to be near one another.
TV digital cable by Northland Cable; internet and telephone service by Verizon and wireless capability. Cooktop, log lighter on the screened porch and central heat are all propane gas served by Wilson Gas.
