SeaSpray Cottage is the quintessential 50's beach cabin! Whether you seek a family vacation cottage or a cozy romantic getaway cottage for two, SeaSpray is the perfect vacation cottage from which to explore and experience the beauty of Lopez Island, a jewel of the San Juan Islands. Known as the 'Friendly Isle', it is a haven for bicycling, kayaking, gentle hiking, beachcombing and beautiful views of the San Juan Islands and Olympic Mountains. Lopez Island is peaceful and quiet.

SeaSpray Cottage is 30 feet from the natural rock steps down onto our private, no-bank beach on Davis Bay. Launch your own kayak from the shore, fly kites with the kids, picnic on the sand or take your family for a bicycle tour of rolling farmlands and gentle fields. Your family can walk along the trails at Iceberg Point, explore Shark's Reef, play at Spencer Spit State Park or Watmough Bay.

SeaSpray has just been completely 'refreshed' inside during the spring of 2012. With the walls whitewashed, new plush carpet underfoot, new lighting and many new touches throughout, the cottage is every bit as original 50's and charming as ever, but fresh and bright and ready to delight you.

SeaSpray's living room is perfect for spending time together; relaxing in front of the wood stove, reading or watching the water just out the windows that stretch across the front of the cottage. Move onto the Sun Porch, even closer to the beach and listen to the waves and the grumbling sea lions. There is a large dining table here for your evening meals. The kitchen is small but fully equipped for family style cooking. Plenty of dishes, glassware and cookware are provided for your use. You will also find a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, full set of kitchen knives and a hand mixer. The kitchen is open to the living room, across the breakfast counter, which will seat four. Along the eastern picture window off the kitchen sits a breakfast table for two more people.

The Master bedroom is on the ocean side of the cottage and has a double bed. From here a sliding glass door opens onto the Sun Porch so the breeze and water sounds will find you while sleeping. The kids will enjoy the cozy, built in 'cabin style' bunks in the garden side bedroom. We have provided fine quality cotton linens for all the beds and fluffy towels for after your showers. The bathroom has been freshly painted and the shower surround tiled, adding another sparkle to the cottage. Beach towels will accompany you to the shore for your adventures there.

It may look small, but SeaSpray Cottage has been a cozy, comfortable year round residence that is big on making memories for families! Whether in winter, summer, spring or fall there is no better spot for a getaway. Come be our guest at SeaSpray!

Thank you!

I occasionally take 'Mommy weekends' wherein I abandon my family to indulge in solitude. This time I was SO lucky to stumble upon this cottage on VRBO. It is perfect. It is 100% exactly as the pics show: So close to the water that you can hear the waves and spend many an hour watching the light on the water. The cabin has anything you need and if you're missing anything the tiny village grocery store is shockingly well equiped. The cabin is super cozy, I spent hours reading in the living room. The view is so lovely that despite the rain I couldnt help but enjoy walks on the rocky beach; several times I looked at the water only to see a sea lions staring back at me from the water. But what makes this place the best is how much the owners actually CARE about your stay. Michelle was just wonderful. She really cared about my experience. She checked in and was just SO sweet. I have been many places on my weekends, but this is the first place that has made it to my 'must come back list' Be warned that Lopez isn't filled with tourist attractions - but if you love natural beauty and a place to relax it is PERFECT. Don't forget to check out the library - a great building that was like the community hub while I was there.

Owner response: Thank you so much for spending your precious, solo getaway time at SeaSpray Cottage! Having a chance to instill deep quiet and rest is really essential when one is raising a busy family and working full time. We heartily applaud your strategy! We are so glad that the music and light on the water and the creatures around entertained in just the gentlest of ways. Please return to the cottage as often as you can. We will look forward to seeing you again. Our thanks, Michelle and Lanie

Seaspray has been a fabulous place for a family vacation with our boys two years in a row. The location and natural beauty of the secluded beach, bay and forest are incredible. The beach is very easily accessible and offers endless hours of exploration, rockhounding, treasure hunting, tidepooling, driftwood construction and peaceful contemplation. Daytrips or bike rides to Lopez destinations like Shark Reef, Watmough Bay, Iceberg Point or Spencer Spit or island hopping are great ways to spend the day, but Seaspray is so wonderful, it is hard to tear yourself away and always a joyful pleasure to return. Davis Bay is the most beautiful place on the island and Seaspray feels like home. Not only does it have a well-stocked kitchen and many artistic and personal touches, but it has also been outfitted with families in mind. There are many classic indoor and outdoor toys and games as well as puzzles and books for rainy days and lazy mornings. We plan to return again and again.

Owner response: It gives us great pleasure to see the same families return to SeaSpray Cottage year after year! We enjoy witnessing how the kids have grown between visits and how their attachment to this place, as 'their vacation house' grows too. You are making family memories here and we are so glad that SeaSpray feels like home! Sharing this special place, with families as wonderful as yours, is our delight. We can't wait to see you again.

My husband and I and our 2 granddaughters, age 13 and 15 stayed in Wildwood Cottage for a week in July. It was more than we ever could have imagined. They loved their room with a private bath upstairs and we loved our room with a private bath downstairs. Every room had multiple views. Some garden, some ocean and snow-covered mountains. Our needs were graciously anticipated and more than met. We enjoyed garden vegetables, beautifully presented. We did a special outing each day. The Saturday market, loved the pizza, band and vegetables. The fudge and ice cream shop. Get an ice cream and sit on a log and look at the bay. We kayaked. Scary, but definitely a worthwhile new experience for all of us. We visited Shark Reef Park, saw the seals and enjoyed tidal pools and looking for beach glass. We did Odlin County Park and shelled and build a sand castle. We drew at Watmouth Bight. Watched some fish research being done. Enjoyed s'mores on the beach. Found driftwood and many rocks on our very own beach. We wanted to rent bicycles, but ran out of time. Rode the ferry to Friday Harbor. Worked a jigsaw puzzle - lighthouses. My granddaughter said it was the first one she had ever completed. Saw eagles and deer. If I write more, it might get boring. Our favorite restaurant was the Love Dog. But we enjoyed several more

Owner response: It was our pleasure to have you as guests! It was so fun to hear about your adventures each day and see the four of you delight in the treasures from the beach. You were wonderful guests and are welcome back any time you wish! Please come again to escape the south's summer heat and to relax in the coastal weather of the Northwest! Your Cottage-Keepers, Michelle & Lanie

We spent our honeymoon at The Sea Spray cottage and it was perfect! We had the place to ourselves the whole time ( except for the evening when the deer came out for a visit). The bay was perfect for kyaking and wildlife viewing. We watched the harbor seals play, the eagles fish and the otters hard at work diving for dinner. The gardens were peaceful and loaded with beautiful flowers, trees and veggies. The bicycling was wonderful on the island as well, with wide open roads and friendly drivers. We enjoyed Lopez Island so much that we want to buy property there and eventually build our own little cottage.... until then we plan to return to this wonderful property as often as possible. The owners made us feel so welcome and greeted us as if we were long lost friends! What a great find and a most memorable honeymoon. Jeff and Michelle

Our family had a thoroughly enjoyable time, for a second summer in a row, at the very cozy SeaSpray Cottage (by the way, we loved the new colors and updates!). We enjoyed the relaxing days at the beautiful beach, just a few steps away from the porch: looking for (and finding) agates and interesting rocks, building driftwood cairns (OK - we only built one, but it was big) and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit. We saw deer grazing in the woods and harbor seals playing in Davis Bay. We marveled at bald eagles surveying the water for tasty fish, perched on top of driftwood on the beach. We liked the sound of the occasional light northwest rain, gently tapping on the roof of the comfortable enclosed porch; we also savored the sight of the fog one morning. The found the location of the cottage to be the ideal combination of quiet, beautiful scenery, seclusion and privacy, while being only a 10 minute leisurely drive to the Village (and the great coffee at Isabel's Espresso!). The lush lawn between the cottage and the beach was perfect for our kids to run around and play. We want to give special thanks to Michelle and Lanie for being such warm and hospitable hosts and for the delicious fresh vegetables they picked from their garden and shared with us - we made the best dishes and salads with them and the kids loved all of them! We highly recommend the SeaSpray Cottage and Lopez Island as a vacation spot and we look forward to returning again soon! Ares & Kristiina Alex & Vivian

Owner response: Dear Ares, Kristiina, Alex and Vivian, It was a pleasure to see your family again this year! It is wonderful for us to share the bounty and the beauty of this special place. Nothing gives us more delight than seeing others enjoy it and be awed by it as we are. Your amazing driftwood cairn is still standing as a sentinel on the beach! It has survived a week of very high tides, large swells and crashing waves on the beach. It stands beautifully, artisically and holds the spirit of your family in this place. Please return often. You are always welcome at SeaSpray Cottage! I thank you for your kind review! Michelle

We actually stayed in Wildwood Cottage, which is on the same property as SeaSpray. Wildwood was terrific. There was a real vibe of coziness, and everything was clean and well-appointed. The library was unusually well-stocked, and I spent the better part of one day slowly flipping through their book on Gaugin. Lots of books on art, cooking, and gardening, along with well-selected fiction; a person could hibernate here for the entire winter. Kitchen and cooking equipment were just great as well, and we ended up cooking almost all our meals in because we couldn't tear ourselves away from this fantastic little nook of Lopez Island. Views of the water were excellent, and soothing. We saw lots of otters (who even hopped onto the beach for a quick respite) and plenty of eagles and cormorants. Comfy bed, comfy chairs and couches; everything has a nice, lived-in feel (and I completely mean that in a good way; this is far from a cold, sterile, antiseptic vacation rental). Beautiful grounds and gardens; great location. Terrific overall. We hope to return soon.

My family and I enjoyed SeaSpray cottage for 4 nights in August and Michelle and Lani were so accommodating and welcoming. We felt very special. The cottage was well equipped for some fun cooking and the location was beautiful and functional for lawn games and just laying out in the sun. A fun place to get away from it all and experience the Lopez Island life.

The stay at Seapray was remarkable in its tranquility and invigoration. Naturally, the scenic views are spectacular and are matched by the quiet walks on the beach, sounds of the waves at night and the enveloping gentle rhythm of the location. Another plus was being able to run on the near deserted country roads and breath deeply the fresh air or walk to Shark's Reef and be entertained by the herons, eagles and sea lions. Then again watching deer, harbor seals and otters from the deck is eqally as enjoyable. I must say the property is spotlessly clean, extraordinarily well-maintained and very comfortable. One note about the property owners; they are welcoming, charming, gracious and let you enjoy yourselves without interuption. Will we return? As soon as the calendar permits!

Owner response: We also enjoy the quiet rythms and nature's gifts bestowed on this special spot on Davis Bay. We are so glad to share it with our guests! Just after your stay, we were on the beach watching the sun set after one of the first, warm summer days, and we saw in a group of creatures swim across the bay heading straight for us. At first sighting we thought they were ducks, but they swam in an unusual way...and had tails that would appear every so often. To our amazement, they were 11 river otters; young and old, that deftly came out of the water and dissapeared into the ravine to our east, without so much as a sound. It was a great sighting! We are so glad that you appreciated the quaint charm of the cottage, the pristine surroundings and enjoyed your stay at SeaSpray. Please do return as quickly as your calendar allows. Our thanks, Michelle and Lanie

About the owner: Lopez Island has long been our favorite place in the San Juan Islands! We jumped at the chance to take care of and share this magnificent spot on the sunny, south shore of Davis Bay. It is our dream come true!

Why the Owner Chose Lopez Island:
We loved the sunny, expansive view of the sea framed by the Olympic Mountains and we love being right on the beach. We wanted to have our grown kids bring their children here, where they can make memories together. We watch eagles, deer, geese, otters, seals and sealions play at the water's edge.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Unique to our property is the easy access to the beach. We can walk our kayaks to the water from our yard! We have beautiful gardens, a wide grassy lawn where kids can play badmiton and chase eachother in big circles. It's the best vacation spot we could ever imagine.
