My husband and I had never been to Ocracoke but it exceeded our expectations! It is a wonderful little island and the house was perfect for us! Everything was clean when we arrived and the house was within walking distance of most everything. The beds were very comfortable and the cable and wifi were great. The first day we got there the weather was rainy but we did have several very sunny and warm days. The local seafood was delicious! It was a wonderful, relaxing week and we hope to be back someday soon!

We have been blissfully escaping to Ocracoke since we visited for a day trip in 1983. And we truly love Little House. Our favorite things-the flood of light filling every corner of the house in the mornings, hammocks, that amazing porch, the snuggle-y beds, so many thoughtful comforts. Thank you, Marsh and Lynn Pierce.

We (husband, 19 year old son and myself) thoroughly enjoyed our spring break week on Ocracoke. There isn't much to do here but stand amazed at the sea oated beauty of a National Seashore beach, pocked only by temporal tire tracks of four wheel drives. The wind blows, the water comes up and goes back and all remains the same, and yet changes constantly. We ate excellent fresh red drum three nights. We took the free ferry to Hatteras and visited the lighthouse and hiked a few miles of the National Seashore there through beautiful maritime forest. We played backgammon, cribbage and scrabble, read our books, slept in and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We rode bicycles all over the island and only moved our car to go to Hatteras mid week. Truly this island is a treasure and Little House by the Ferry is a very comfortable place to experience this bit of North Carolina. The house is very comfortably fitted to meet the your needs. We slept well, appreciated the city water and reliable, fast internet. The kitchen is equipped for most cooking endeavors while on vacation. We will go back, given the opportunity. Little House by the Ferry is a terrific place to base yourself out of to enjoy the very special place that is Ocracoke.

We spent our 5th wedding anniversary weekend at Little House by the Ferry and had the most amazing weekend!!! First off we planned our weekend last minute and the owners were so attentive and accommodating with the last minute booking of their home. Then we arrive and the house was so clean, cozy, and all in all adorable. If I could afford my own little cottage by the ferry this would be it. Perfect to bring our lab and have her run in the fenced in back yard. Amazing screened it porch, outdoor shower and perfect location. We were able to bike everywhere. Thank you again so much for such a lovely weekend! We will be back!!!!

Our week's stay at the "Little House by the Ferry" was just what we were hoping for! The photos on this web site accurately reflect what we experienced and the convenience of being so close to town and the ferry was a big plus. We especially appreciated how clean and well-kept the cottage is, in addition to being very comfortable and visually charming. The kitchen is well-equipped which made it a pleasure to cook some of the local seafood and have dinners in, leaving time to watch the sunsets just a short walk away. The queen beds are comfortable and the area is very quiet. As the weather was very hot and humid, the reliable air conditioning was especially important. We would not hesitate to return to this cottage and recommend it to our friends and family! If you are like us -- on a budget and preferring the privacy and flexibility of a cottage vacation, you will love this place.

For the second summer in a row, we were lucky enough to get to stay in Little House by the Ferry for two weeks at a time. (The name “little” is misleading as there is plenty of room for our family of five with each child getting their own room!) The best way I can describe what it is like to stay in Little House by the Ferry is that it feels like you are staying in a “friend’s cottage” each time. The owner, whom we have never met, is gracious and kind. He responds to emails immediately and makes himself available by phone for discussions if needed. The kitchen is well equipped and the screened-in porch is a wonderful dining or reading spot…. or whatever building project a young son might enjoy! The bikes, boogie boards, surfboards and the like make traveling the 20 hours to get to our favorite house that much easier. This year, our daughter had her Senior photos taken on Ocracoke. This sweet home and the spacious property were a perfect backdrop; in fact, the photo chosen for her school yearbook was taken in Little House by the Ferry’s back yard! We can’t wait to go back next summer!

I have been coming to Ocracoke since I was a child and this was our first official family vacation with our two small children. The Little Cottage on the Ferry was the PERFECT place for us to create memories to last. The living accomodations were wonderful and and the details and pictures were spot on. This is our first experience renting from VRBO and we will definitely be renting again! Thanks again!!

Wonderful week in Ocracoke. Nice home, Marsh has done a great job with the cottage. His description and the pitcures were 100% accurate. Very well maintained, not your "typical" rental, this cottage is set up just like your home would be. Very prompt in answering your questions. Our family of 6 spent the week swimming at the "lifeguard beach" and had a blast. The beach is definetly in our top 5. We spent the evenings riding our bikes and walking to the shops and restaurants. The week was to short, and we are already looking forward to our next trip to Ocracoke.

This has to be my FAVORITE beach property I have ever rented on VRBO. First of all, it was an absolute pleasure to do business with the owner. He was very prompt in replying to my questions and made the transaction very easy. Located on a quiet, private street, the house is EXACTLY as advertised, and is extremely clean and well maintained. The decor is lovely and the furnishings are of good quality (the bed was very comfortable and we slept extremely well). In fact, the photos don't do this place justice. As a testament to the attention to detail in cleanliness: we brought our dog, and she did not get fleas! Every other beach property I've rented has resulted in my poor dog getting a nasty case of fleas (makes you wonder what the extra pet fee is all about). In fact, you cannot tell there has ever been a dog in this cottage, it's so clean (no dog smell, no pet hair, and no fleas!). This property provides wifi and free domestic long distance, so I called my mother, as the owner suggests here in this listing and on the cottage's information sheet. After describing the location, the house and its wonderful attributes, she immediately suggested I book a week so we can have a family vacation (and she wants to pay!). The bikes provided by the owner were well used by us during our four days on the island. We rode all over and enjoyed not needing to use the car at all while we were there. In addition, you will have use of boogie boards, surf boards, cooler, outdoor grill, etc. There is not much our hosts have not thought of to make for a wonderful, memorable vacation. I cannot wait to return to the Little House by the Ferry again and again.

The house was very cute - much as I expected for a cottage, however, the smell from the well water was just overpowering. I've lived a home with well water, but never the kind of smell we had there. We arrived on Sunday evening and it started raining, then the power went off for awhile. Monday we had about 3 hours of sunshine and nice weather and then the rains returned and were expected to remain throughout the week. Power off again Monday evening for 3 hours. We left for home Tuesday morning due to the threat of flooding and Highway 12 was already becoming covered with water and sand. Will not return to Outer Banks again in the fall.

Owner response: Sue, We are so sorry Hurricane Nicole ruined your vacation. We know how far you had to travel to get there. The Fall is one of the most beautiful times on Ocracoke, but there's always the possibility of a storm during hurricane season. The smelly well water is gone forever. We purchased a city water meter which just became available and it will be installed before the end of November, 2010. Hooray! No more smelly water and great water pressure.

This was our first rental through VRBO and we were just delighted. The house is adorable--clean, beautifully renovated, with great screened-in outdoor space. The location is perfect--we biked to coffee, dinner, and shopping. We particularly enjoyed the Back Porch Restaurant and Zillies, a specialty food and beverage establishment. The beaches are beautiful and we hope to stay at the Little House again in the near future! The owner was easy to communicate with and responsive. We always enjoy a pet-friendly rental, too!

Very cute, clean, well furnished! would highly recommend! Mr Pierce is very easy to communicate with, quick with email responses, transaction very smooth. home has nice furnishings, comfortable beds, plenty of bikes, chairs, umbrella. outdoor shower is a plus! very convenient to main strip of restaurants, shops by bike. only downside is the sulfer smell of water, which is prevalent throughout ocracoke, however you are provided with drinking and cooking water.

The cottage is as lovey as the photos depict -- every room is decorated beautifully. It was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The location is ideal -- close to everything in Ocracoke. Our family of four loved riding the bikes everywhere! The Pierces were kind enough to let us borrow their over-sized beach umbrella, beach chairs and boogey boards. The beach (with lifeguard) is pristine and uncrowded. We loved the natural setting, the slow pace, and the absence of fast food and hotel chains, etc. There's wonderful shopping in the Village of Ocracoke, too. Make sure to get ice cream at the Slushy Stand, go see the Ocracoke Lighthouse, and eat at Howard's Pub (their fried oysters are fabulous!).

Hospitality speaks in this beach cottage!!! The owners have done a great job with each little detail! Very comfortable, clean and cozy inside and out. The screen porch was our favorite spot to relax and hang out! We can't wait to come back to the island and stay at The Little House by the Ferry!

This property is absolutely fantastic. They've just done a complete renovation, and I have to say, it's the first time we've rented from VRBO that the place was as good as or even better than the pictures. It's furnished beautifully, the bed was comfortable, and the location was terrific. Only problem was that my son wanted to sleep in the pink bedroom on the cool loft bed, and that seemed to be a bit of an ethical dilemma for him! The owners were extremely pleasant and easy to deal with, and most helpful with everything. Ocracoke is a vacation and a half- from Knoxville, it was a bit of a haul, but very much worth it, and we hope to come back next year.
