Situated just outside Banner Elk and a neighboring VINEYARD, this gem is situated amidst a 43 acre farm that has been preserved through a conservation easement.

This property belonged to my Aunt and Uncle who were avid environmentalists. I fell in love with its beauty in college, and helped them establish an easement on the property so the peaceful feeling and incredible view would never be spoiled. I share this "potato house" with you so I can maintain this special place and protect it from development! I also like the local winery and restaurants!

My wife and I have been going to the High Country for over 35 years and I can't think of any experience we had that would top our stay at the "potato house!" Everything you could possibly need for your stay has been well thought out and placed in service by the owner. Everything worked beautifully, and beds were extremely comfortable and we had a most wonderful week in the mountains. We are both very pleased with our selection of this location and plan to go there again, at our next convenient opportunity.

Wow! This cottage was just a described and just as we wanted it, just right! Every detail was thought of and we wanted for nothing! We just got home and already can't wait to get back. You really never have to leave except for groceries. We traveled to all nearby towns and cities and will never forget the feeling of coming "home" to Banner Elk. Banner Elk is a fabulous, friendly, and most importantly a genuine town. Thank you to all of the local restaurants and the local bike shop, Cycle for Life. We recommend everything Banner Elk. Great bicycling in town and nearby on the Blue Ridge. Winery was tasty and friendly, in fact we ran into the winemaker while photographing all of the old barns nearby. The Gamekeeper Restaurant was our pick for our special night out, but really cooking in was just as much fun and romantic! We give the Potato House and Banner Elk a perfect 10!

When we were searching for a mountain getaway, I studied reviews and photos to find just the right place. And everything about our stay at the Potato House was even better than I anticipated. From the mission-style yet unique architecture, to the varied and thoughtful landscaping, to the tastefully exquisite decor ... this home is among the very best I've ever stayed at. The attention to detail — a fully equipped kitchen, nicely stocked bathrooms, and labeling of all wall switches — provided an immediate comfort level. And the location just can't be beat. We were conveniently close to Banner Elk yet situated on a beautiful mountain with a view of the other mountains—ranks among my top 10 views ever (U.S. or otherwise)! We hiked the trails behind the house, took a short outing to Valle Crusis and the Mast General Store and park, ate at Bayou Smokehouse a few times (an absolute MUST), but mostly we enjoyed the house—the hot tub, the comfortable chairs and nice deck where we sat and read every day, and the total relaxation of our peaceful surroundings. Just when I thought the week couldn't get any better—we had low humidity, sunshine in the afternoons, and cool nights—as we were preparing to leave Saturday morning, October 1, it actually snowed! Now I know how beautiful the Potato House is in summer and winter alike! Truly, James and I thank you for providing such an incredible getaway. I'd recommend the Potato House to any couple wanting a romantic getaway, or any individuals in need of peace and meditation ... or some really good exercise and return to nature. I'd buy this home in a heartbeat if ever it's for sale! Anne & James

My husband and I had a wonderfully relaxing anniversary weekend at the "Potato House". It was off the beaten path, but close to Banner Elk and Grandfather Mountain. We hiked the property, enjoyed the stars from the hot tub, had a great dinner at Hearthstone Tavern and Grill. There are so many little details that make the cabin comfortable, unique, and special. I would highly recommend the property to anyone looking for a romantic getaway.
Owner response:We hope to have you back!

My husband and I visited the Potato House for our anniversary and it was beautiful! The home owners have paid so much attention to detail. It was a lovely experience from the rustic yet contempoary decor to the breath taking surroundings. We are looking forward to bringing friends back on our next trip! This would be a great cabin for two couples. It's a minutes drive to all the activities of Banner Elk. Great trip and a great experience!

This property exceeded every expectation we had! The owners made every effort to make the vacation easy for us, from reservations, to arrival and access, to offering suggestions on area restaurants. The cabin is absolutely beautiful, offering a fantastic view from an incredible balcony, totally equipped kitchen, hot tub, even heated bathroom floors! The beds are extremely comfortable with luxurious linens. There are 4 flat screen televisions, with satellite. There is a quaint winery at the end of the road that we found outstanding. The cabin is located perfectly between seclusion and civilization. We will definitely be going back!

An adorable cottage with lovely furnishings and extraordinarily comfy beds. We spent the weekend here with another couple and enjoyed the view, the hot tub, and visiting the nearby town of Banner Elk. The cabin is cozy with 4 people so be sure to go with friends or family you really like. A summertime visit is probably ideal when nice weather enables additional living space on the deck and patio. Although the house sits right on the road, it's not a heavily traveled road so we rarely heard traffic. And only one or two cars passed during our soaks in the hot tub. The owner is responsive to requests and suggestions, and genuinely wants guests to have a great vacation at the cabin. We'll be back in warmer weather!
