Please note: Camp Nelson is not in Sequoia National Park. We are in the Sequoia National Forest. See the Giant Sequoias without the crowds!
If you want to see the "Big Trees" without the crowds and hassles, come to Camp Nelson. We have 100's of big trees including the world's 5th largest Giant Sequoia- The Stagg Tree just 20 minutes from the cabin, but without the crowds. A true relaxing getaway.
This charming, open, light filled cabin is just a short stroll to the Tule River. It is set on 3 acres and backs to hundreds of acres of Forest Service land.
You will enjoy mountain views and complete privacy during your stay. You can walk to the river in just a few minutes and fish, or hike and bike the many trails. Or simply sit on the deck and take in the warm mountain sun and relax with only the sounds of nature. No cars, no people.
In the evening watch the glowing sun sets while you dine on the deck or in the cozy cabin by a fire. Fall asleep to the starry skies from your upstairs bed. The moon will light your room mid night. The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed with a metal garden frame and a nook with a double futon bed (comfy) separated by a sheer curtain. A very cozy niche to curl up and read a book.
The decor is fun and inviting. The down filled couch looks out the wall of windows out to the mountains to the south west. There is a dining area table that seats 4, or a table for two with a view!
There is a mountain diner about 10 minutes away that is open 7 days a week, and a small market and lounge that sometimes has live music on weekends.
We are located in Camp Nelson at approximately 5,000 feet in the South Sierra in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. We have nice summers and beautiful mild winters with just the right amount of snow. The driveway is perfect for sledding! There are many miles of hiking trails, some take you to the Giant Sequoias (Trail of 100 giants). There will be a trail guide in the cabin. The Tule river is stocked with rainbow trout and there are several types of native trout as well.
Drive uphill to Ponderosa (at 7,000 feet) where you can snowshoe, cross country ski and snow mobile in the winter. In the summer there is horseback riding and of course hiking and picnicking in the meadows.
