Lunksoos is a historic camp uniquely located on the E. Branch of the Penobscott River just north of Staceyville, ME and 1.6 miles from the Hunt Farm mentioned in "The Maine Woods" by Henry David Thoreau whose camp was just south of Lunksoos on their expedition to climb Mt. Kathadin. The picture of Mt. Kathadin was taken from the front porch of the lodge at sunrise. The grounds at camp are beautiful and we have a private boat launch on the river. The lodge has a full bath room and a full kitchen. There are also 4 cabins available at a lower rate that don't have a bath room, they have a privy and use of the shower house. The camp is very peaceful and relaxing-a great place to go to get away from your daily routines. The river at the camp is calm and very easy to paddle upstream and then enjoy floating back to camp.
The area is now being protected and remains virtually the same as in those times. This is a wild area where you can experience nature at its best. There is deer, moose, bear, rabbit, grouse, beaver, otter, etc. in our immediate area. There is also plenty of birds and water fowl to watch. The camp is located in the middle of thousands of acres of conservation land. It's truly a great place to get away from the hustle of every day life in the city.

- This is a sporting camp on the East branch of the Penobscot River with a view of Mt. Kathadin. Located in a beautiful & remote area surrounded by thousands of acres of conservation land with Baxter State Park and Mt. Kathadin 12 miles to the West.The river has excellent small mouth bass, brook trout, and landlocked salmon fishing. We have canoes you are welcome to use at your own risk. There is no electricity, there is a generator to run the microwave and the water pump. The lights, water heater, oven and refrigerator run off propane.

- Wildlife in our immediate area include deer, moose, bear, ground hog, beaver, eagle, loons, rabbits, grouse and a large variety of birds. Great fishing right from our river bank.
Rate Details (In US Dollars)
The lodge is $800/week for 2 people, each additional is $35/night per person.
Cabins are $400.00/week for 2 people, each additional is $25/night per person.
There is a 7% tax that is required by the State of Maine.
