Location: Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras, Central America (20k from La Ceiba International Airport; 20k from Roatan IA)
Accommodations: Bungalow, 1 Bedroom + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)
Keywords: Beach House
Fully furnished Beach Front 1 bedroom home located in the much sought after Blue Bayou area of Utila.
Our Beach House has a great island feel with a living area, fully equipped kitchen, 1 bedroom and 1 bath with hot water shower. There is a queen bed and open shelving for clothing. We have town power and water, ceiling fans, air conditioning, washing machine as well as a TV with DVD player, DVD's and Internet.
The house has a nice front porch with wooden swing and hammock. A great place to have your coffee and watch the sun rise, boats, snorkelers and eagle rays passing by.
There is also a large deck in front of the Beach House and a deck walkway to a 12 ft (maybe higher? ) Champa, an open sided, roofed area which is a great place to relax and watch all the activities going on in the bay.
The Beach House is wedged between the Caribbean and the Lower Lagoon.
The reef along Blue Bayou is vivacious and healthy with many reef fish, eagle rays, moray ells, lovely Staghorn Coral, Brain Coral and ecosystems to explore. The snorkeling and shore diving is just fantastic here.
Always when visiting any ocean destination be sure to bring sun screen, bug spray, your snorkel, mask, water booties and fins for exploring all the sea life that is right out our front door. Check with the dive shops for renting tanks there is a dive site just yards from our deck.
At low tide we have seen small ells playing in the rock jetty just left of the deck and they love to eat tuna. We also have a green Morey that lives in the rocks at the base of our deck and he likes tuna too. I have pictures to prove it.
Also check into Kayak Tours and Stand Up Paddle Boards with Andi. She has lived on the island for years and is a wealth of information.
Utila is just a beautiful little island with friendly people a must see for divers and non-divers alike.

Why the Owner Chose Utila
We have been traveling to Utila since 1997. We truly love everything about the island.
The Unique Benefits of this Bungalow
The warm Caribbean ocean is right out your front door, literally. If you dive, snorkel or just love playing in the ocean this property is for you. We are about a 10 minute walk from town, this gives us the advantage of being close to town but still in the quiet area. The scuba diving is some of the best in the world. We have some snowflake eels that live right off of our deck. We also get octopus and eagle rays hanging out in front of the deck.

My husband, myself our daughter & her fiancés stayed in two of the beach houses and loved it. The view was wonderful. The diving and snorkeling 20 feet from our door was the best we have had yet. The people on the island were friendly and helpful, and Javier the caretaker was alway there when we needed him. The location of the cabins just outside the town was perfect.. the walk was beautiful and the quiet nights much appriciated. If you want a break for your busy life I would suggest the blue bayou beach houses. Thanks

This was a wonderful place! We (2 children and 3 adults visited in March 2006. We took all three accommodations. Right out our front door we enjoyed snorkelling, kayaking, swimming. The swing is great for lazying about with a cool drink in hand. The only negative would be the sand fleas, be sure to put lots of insect repellent on. Javier, the caretaker kids speak perfect English and are a delight. We loved having them come over but if you are looking for privacy they will respect that. The cottages are well equiped and beds comfortable. Usually we didn't need the air conditioners. Since we got up real early I used my AC to cool things off a bit as well as to drowned out the pumped up music from the various restaurants in town. Things would quieten down around MN or before then I could turn off the air conditioner and enjoy the nice ocean air. Town is about a 20 to 25min.walk. You can rent a bike from Javier or a motorized vehicle in town. If resorts aren't your thing this is the island to go to and the place to stay. I would love to go back there every winter if I could.
Owner response:Dear Ruth, I'm so happy you like the place! It's not for everyone, but we are so pleased for you and your family! We hope you will come back some time, we will be waiting, Carrell & Marty

I loved the beach house. The breezes kept the bugs at bay and I didn't have to use the air conditioner. Great snorkeling was right out front! I loved siting on the swing in the morning and evenings...caught up on some much needed rest and relaxation. I rented the owners scooter as it is about a mile to town and I'm not so young and in shape anymore. I tried to rent a 4 wheeler in town but they would not rent over night to anyone. You can rent bicycles in town..and keep them overnight. The expansive deck was wonderful for sunbathing or a nice outdoor meal on the picnic table. We took the motor-raft thru the mangroves and it was lovely. Thank you Carrell for a wonderful time in Utila! (did you find my camera battery charger?) I am so glad I got to meet you and your husband.

Carrel and Marty A delayed thank you for wonderful hospitality during out stay at the bungalo. From our arrival and pick up at the airport to our departure we couldn't have aske for better hosts or accomadations. The use of the Zodiac was very much appreciated as we were able to explore your beautiful island on our own. Thanks for all the great island info during our stay, from eateries to dive operators to wine selection. We had a great time and hope to make our way back some day.

This is an e-mail received from Jo during her stay in Utila. She gave permission to let me post this! Carrell Hi Carrell, Sorry it's taken so long for me to tell you how great your place is. I thought I'd be able to log on to my home e-mail and then access my e-mail address book, and somehow I hadn't set up my computer to do that from afar. So I got your addresses from Heather this monrning. Your place is great. Heather met us at the ferry on Sunday morning and offered us a tour of the town, which we declined because we were pooped. We were also amazed at the stock of food in the cottage!! Of course, we'll replace what we use, but it was so great to find staples and common items like sugar, coffee, soup, crackers etc. As well, the scooter is wonderful. When Allan was a teenageer he had a big motorbike, and guys who drove scooters were considered a bit 'woosy'. Well, 35 years later, he loves it. We've motored out to the end of the new runway, also to the beach at the side of the old runway. We haven't explored anywhere in the kayaks. I'm looking forward to going through the canal/chanel to the other side. I'd imagine we'd need to be slathered in bug spray? Allan took part of his scuba course in Calgary, and he's doing a checkout this morning, and then two of his open water dives this afternoon. He knew that it would be less expensive here, but didn't want to feel rushed if trying to keep up with bright and quick young things. Anyway, that's all for now. Your place is great and we are super-happy. The timing couldn't have been better: the weather in Ca;gary was -20c the day we laft, and my contract was up on my job, so I was at a loose end. Now of course I just try to wangle a way to STAY here!!Like everyone else I imagine. All the best, Jo and Allan

It is a dream vacation to stay in this wonderful beach bungalow on Utila. Me and my two small children stayed in a charming beach home for six weeks in Honduras. Utila is a small island with a charming fishing town and great diving and snorkeling. The ocean is just right off the front steps of this charming bungalow. We had fans, kichenette and 24 hour power. We had a great time and this is for anyone who wants to just get away.

Our stay at the Bodega Bungalow was just perfect. 15 minute bike ride from the centre, we could choose to go into town any time and enjoy the restaurants, bars and people, or we could choose to stay close to the bungalow and enjoy the beach and more quiet times. The owners are extremely nice and helpful people as are the taker and his entire family. We had a blast! Nathalie and Carlos in Guatamala City

We stayed in the Bodgea Apartment for 10 days and just loved it. Jest steps away from the blue cribbean water. Nicely furnished and they have a great care taker. We went snorkeling, sailing in the ocean and kayaking in the lagoon wihich is accessible from the rear of the property. We walked or rode bikes the short distance into town. Where the food was great and the people friendly. We will definitly stay there again. Oh ya the diving is to die for.

Date: 2003/05/20 To: carrellebert Subject: Our Stay Hey Carrell - we have our pictures back and thought I'd just catch up this way - the kids were great who live behind your bungalow - they played with our kids and some pictures are below. One day someone wanted to rent a kayak, Javier wasn't around - I put the money under the candle on your etage - - We ended up diving with Utila Dive Center, had a great time, spotted a seahorse. We took the kids snorkeling off the Coco View Beach Hotel dock (the one under construction down from your bungalow) - wonderful snorkeling! Had TWO nights of eating the curry from the Gelateria - and ice cream EVERY day from there! RJ's barbeque one night, dinner at Mango Inn one night, drinks at the TreeTanic - that guy is very creative! The last day there we took a boat over to Water Cay and spent the day there - great. We had a grand time - thank you - thank you!

We just returned from a week at the bungalow with our two small children, 4 and 6. It was great! The bungalow was extremely comfortable and perfect - right on the water, the champa was fun with a hammock - the kids pretended it was their treehouse - we went scuba diving with the Utila Dive Center - very convenient - only a 5 minute scooter ride - the snorkeling was wonderful right from the bungalow's dock, the weather was perfect, a gentle breeze the entire time. We'd definitely come back!
