Wonderful find!

Date of Stay: 03/28/12 Review Submitted: 04/18/12

What a lovely apartment! Our family of four (two adults and two kids) just completed a 10day stay in this lovely Bologna apartment and loved it! Right from the beginning everything went very smoothly. Owner, Ms Paola, was very helpful and kind! She immediately responded to the emails, and answered all of our questions thoroughly and quickly. When we arrived, she was waiting for us and gave us the tour and the details of the stay at the apartment The apartment is truly beautiful and was so comfortable for our family. It was thoughtfully and beautifully decorated and very clean and well maintained. Beds were comfortable with down comforters and the outdoor terrace was just wonderful. The apartment is also very comfortable for long stay since it has a washing machine. We would really be delighted to return there for our next holiday! Wonderful find!

Owner response:Thank you very much! We are very happy you and your family enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure having you over and hope to see you again sometime.

Perfect Place in Bologna

Guest: Mountain Mama (Breckenridge, CO)
Date of Stay: 02/11/12 Review Submitted: 02/28/12

Ours was the first flight to land in Bologna's snow storm of the century. A quick taxi ride to Al Parco, and we were met by Paula and Ken at the apartment. They immediately made us feel comfortable (and warm!), explained the keys, buses, and even helped with some train schedules to Florence. THIS IS THE PLACE TO STAY IF YOU HAVE BUSINESS AT CNR!! My husband was in conference there, and while everyone else was commuting from downtown, we were happily in between with a quick bus trip (or a healthy walk) into downtown and a quick bus trip (or a faster walk!) to CNR. I made the reservations months in advance and, Paola stayed in touch the whole time (she even sent a holiday greeting and followed up after we returned home!). Uniquely, they don't charge the paypal fee for the deposit which was very much appreciated; as usual for owner lodging, you'll need the balance in cash (so be prepared with those Euros!). We had a 6:45AM flight back and Paola made all the arrangements for the taxi pickup for us and even offered a "backup plan" for Ken to drive us! (thankfully, the taxi arrived right on time). The apartment is very well equipped, for instance there are 3 types of coffee makers, dishwasher, washing machine, gas stove, electric oven, microwave, everything in working order, everything clean. The unit is on the 1st floor (that means 2nd floor to Americans), giving it a sense of quiet and security. Had the weather cooperated, we would have enjoyed immensely the wrap around terrace. Having the Co-op grocery across the street was excellent so that we could shop fresh everyday (and they carry organics). The phone is free to any landline in Italy (something we actually used to call our hotel reservations in Florence). The bus stop is literally just to the left of the building and takes you downtown (buy a 10 trip strip at a Tobacci shop and it makes it fussfree and a bit cheaper). Or, enjoy the walk over the bridge where they're building a new train station. Speaking of which, stop by the Bologna train station and look at the clock that is forever stopped in reverence to the 1980 event. See the towers and "arcades" of Bologna, sample the pasta, and don't forget to look for that elusive, buried Aposa River and canals, and the Meridian line in the Piazza Cathedral. Would I stay here if ever again in Bologna? In a heart beat.

The apartment was most comfortable and convenient. A short walk to the bus into the city center and a short walk to a choice of two grocery stores. The hostess, Paola, was most helpful upon our arrival and even had a panna cotta in the refrigerator for us to enjoy. Highly recommended for anyone spending time in Bologna.

Bologna Apartment a Great Base

Guest: Brad & Joanna (Longview, WA. U.S.A.)
Date of Stay: 05/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/30/11

A fantastic apartment! Very clean, well equipped, and a perfect location. We spent 12 days here in May 2011 and besides many days exploring Bologna, we visited Ravenna, San Marino, Parma, Modena, and Ferrara by train. Florence and Milan are also only 1 hour away by train. Paola was a gracious and charming host and speaks flawless English. We have rented countless apartments and homes for many years and this is our very favorite. We heartily recommend Paola's apartment to anyone visiting Bologna.

Owner response:Thank you very much Brad and Joanna! I am so happy Al Parco is your favorite apartment. I look forward to having you here again.

My Return to Italy

Guest: Terry (Abu Dhabi UAE)
Date of Stay: 04/01/11 Review Submitted: 04/09/11

It was 30 years since I had been in Italy. I was not sure how it would be upon my return. I can say the apartment was first rate, everything was exactly like the description. The park off the balcony was very nice, the local markets and eateries were within walking distance. The owner was at the apartment waiting on my arrival, she was very helpful and took the time to throughly go over all the details. I rate this a 5 out of 5 and will return.

Owner response:Thank you Terry. I am very happy to have positively contributed to your " Return to Italy". Till next time!

Oh my! Look no further. This is IT! The apartment is gorgeous, spotless, and spot on. Absolutely everything you need is provided - and then some! Paola thinks of everything! She and Ken are the most wonderful hosts ever, We spent a week at Al Parco and talked often of wanting to live in it. It's that good. It is comfortable, cozy, VERY clean, secure, and "lives" just like home. It offers everything and anything that a traveler might need or want - even things you don't know you need or want! And one of the best restaurants is right across the street (Snoopy 2 - order the "Grilled Fish" and swoon!) Thank you Paola and Ken from the bottom of our hearts - all innkeepers should take lessons you! Best regards - we hope to return many times!

A beautifully presented, spacious, comfortable & well equipped apartment. Whilst situated a little way from the old centre, buses went right past the door at frequent intervals and made access quick & easy. Paola spoke very good English & could not have been more helpful. We really appreciated the large balcony area and WIFI, as well as secure parking. Even umbrellas were provided. We would definitely recommend this apartment.

Al Parco - Bologna

Guest: Peggy (Leeds, Yorkshire, England)
Date of Stay: 08/31/10 Review Submitted: 11/12/10

Time flies past but although it is two months since we stayed at Al Parco, the memory of our lovely holiday remains as fresh as if it were yesterday. The apartment simply could not have been better. The facilities were superb and the location was great. We enjoyed overlooking the park and being able to sit out on the balcony and we also enjoyed the quietness - being out of the city centre worked very well and made us feel part of the neighbourhood which one does not ordinarily feel when staying in a city centre hotel. Your suggestion that we go to the little restaurant across the road was splendid - after three nights we were treated like part of the family and it was very special. We also appreciated the feeling of safety and security the flat provided with the limited access and very secure locks. We certainly would have no hesitation in recommending Al Parco to anyone who wishes to stay in Bologna, and would return time after time should the opportunity arise. Thank you very much again for all you kind thoughtfulness.

Excellent property

Guest: Chris-uk (Derby, England)
Date of Stay: 04/24/10 Review Submitted: 05/03/10

I can't speak too highly of Al Parco, it really is the best apartment we have ever stayed at over many years of travel. It is very modern and has just about everything you would ever need, even wireless internet access. The rooms are all of a good size and there are two bathrooms which is a real plus. Paola goes to a huge amount of trouble to make sure that your stay is uneventful, the apartment had all of the soap, shampoo, coffee etc and even a chocolate cake waiting in the fridge for us (along with a bottle of wine of course). The apartment is spotless and has good security with locks on the main building. The area it is in is a residential area which is some 15 minutes from the city walls (and train station) - it's an easy walk or there is a regular bus service - we walked back in the evenings and never felt worried by the nieghbourhood we went through. It's probably about 30 minutes to the very centre of the city - Piazza Maggiore and again we walked this but the bus is an alternative. Right next to the flat is a supermarket which has everything you will ever need to self cater. The park the apartment looks out over is very well used but the noise is not an issue as the double glazing is good and it's usually fairly quiet from 8pm. My only concern is that Al Parco now becomes so popular that we can't book next time. Thanks Paola for a lovely stay. Chris

Date of Stay: 04/09/10 Review Submitted: 04/25/10

I stayed at this beautiful apartment with my family for a week in April 2010, and was totally impressed from beginning to end. Paola met us on our first day, and took the time to explain all about the apartment and the surrounding area, and made us feel completely at ease from the start. The photos of the apartment formed a big part in choosing Al Parco, yet it is even more impressive when you see it. Everything is spotlessly clean, and there is a lovely light, airy feel to the rooms. It's very easy to feel completely at home when you stay at Al Parco. There are several restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, and the bus stops close by every few minutes if you want to travel further into the city. After a hard day's shopping or sightseeing, there are few better ways to relax than sitting out on Al Parco's lovely terrace, overlooking the delightful park. Paola and her husband Ken took the time to make sure we were enjoying our stay, and we couldn't have asked for more considerate hosts than them. I would thoroughly recommend this apartment to anyone considering staying in this area. I look forward to my next stay at Al Parco.

What an absolutely wonderful experience. The apartment is perfect for enjoying the beautiful city of Bologna. My husband, our 3 children and myself have treasured a month of living in Paola and Ken's apartment. The accommodation is welcoming, spotlessly clean, very warm, secure and has every facility required for a wonderful stay. Its location allowed us to walk into Bologna city centre and train station with ease. Also very easy access to bus services. The park at its door steps was enjoyed immensely by the children, who even got to make a huge snowman together with the local children after a heavy snowfall during our stay.Coop supermarket across the road. Paola and Ken are truly great hosts, who go beyond the call of duty to ensure their guests comfort. From the apartment we were able to organize many day trips to surrounding areas, including Parma,Dozza,Ravenna,Venice,Mantova and Lago di Garda. The safe car parking was an added bonus. We look forward to our next time as guests to "Il Parco" and cannot reccommend it highly enough.

Al Parco is everything it is described to be. Our family of six was very comfortable in this nicely decorated, centrally located apartment. The Bologna bus system is very easy to use and the park near the apartment is an added bonus. Plus, the trains run regularly between Bologna, Florence, Milan, Venice, and Rome. It was nice for us to travel to other cities during the day, and return to the apartment at night. Paola and Ken couldn't have been more kind and helpful. We've traveled quite a bit in Europe, and this was definitely one of the best places we've stayed. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Al Parco to our friends and family.

This clean, new, apartment looks even better than the photos, is near a bus stop, a large grocery store, and Bologna's busy train station. Nice restaurants and pizza parlors are within walking distance. Paola demonstrated how to use all the appliances and stocked us with a beautiful bowl of fruit, a bottle of wine, a refrigerator with milk and juice, a bus pass, and phone numbers to call if we needed help. Our week flew by as we enjoyed the conveniences of home while far away in Italy! I'd highly recommend Al Parco to anyone. Kathy B. and Fred T.

Al Parco was a real treat! How truly welcome we were made to feel. So many small touches that our family of five could enjoy all the comforts of home while touring about Bologna. The balcony overlooking the park gave us a glimpse of Italian life while our son joined in a game of football with some local boys each night. Five Star accommodation at its best!

Italy Vacation

Guest: VC9902 (Canada)
Date of Stay: 07/26/09 Review Submitted: 08/29/09

We stayed for 5 days in July 2009 and were totally impressed with this condo. The size of the rooms was very large and everything seemed recently renovated. The outside terrace ran the length of the condo, making it also very spacious. The condo was situated in what appears to be a recently built development. The landscaping also seems recent. Outdoor parking was gated, very secure. We used the condo as a springboard for day trips to Florence, Venice, etc., and of course Bologna. In Bologna, all interesting spots were a short bus ride away, very convenient. The owner, Paola, was very welcoming and helpful. She even provided complimentary bus tickets, bottle of wine/beer, fruit baskets....WOW! A North American style supermarket is a 5 min walk away. Overall our family was extremely satisfied and would definitely return next time we’re in Italy. Grazie Paola.

Owner response:Thanks, Vince. It weas a pleasure having you over and we all truly hope you come back soon!

The pictures do the apartment justice. It is spacious, beautifully decorated, and has air conditioning, internet access, a washer and a fully equipped kitchen. It is very close to a supermarket and bus stations. By foot it is only about 20-30 minutes to the center of Bologna. Paola met us, and was extremely helpful in giving us information about the apartment and about Bologna and the surrounding areas, providing us with maps etc. An elevator leads to the apartment, so no need to carry your suitcases up the stairs. The refrigerator was stocked, we were provided with bus passes, and Paola was available by phone to answer any questions we had. The apartment has private, secure parking. We would rent there again and recommend it to anybody!

we usually like to stay in an apartment when we are on our vacattion in europe.Al Parco was one of the best apartment we stayed in during our recent visit to Europe .The apartment is well and tastefully done up and is provided with all the essential gadgets .We could easily explore Rome,Venice,Pisa ,Florence in a short span because of Its close proximity to the main train station .Last but not the least was the thoughtfulness of the owners for their guests to keep bread, milk, jams, beer, jucies etc in the apt ready ,for which normally one has to go and arrange on its own after a long journey.I would reccomand this apartment to all those who want to explore the five main cities of Italy as the best abode for their stay. The photos don't do justice to the apartment; it's much bigger than it looks and even nicer! It's very recent, extremely well-equipped, comfortable, spacious, with great attention to detail The private parking place is also very convenient. Access to the heart ot the city is very easy, both on foot (15 minutes) and by bus. We generally walked there and took the bus back. Bologna is picturesque but also lively, well worth a stay. Also Florence, Ravenna and Pisa are not far, day trips we utterly enjoyed. Many thanks to the owners who were really kind and helpful, making our stay a memorable one. We really felt at home, the best rental we've ever had!

Owner response:Thanks Katie! It was a pleasure for us too. We look forward to having you over again.

We spent a week at this apartment and I should say we were totally happy with it. It is clean, large, well stocked, quiet and furnished with a lot of taste. Definitely a prestigious accommodation, perfect for a family like ours (6 people) with great owners who welcomed us like family. The location is very convenient to the center (which is walking distance) as well as many other spots in Bologna, all reachable by city bus stopping right in front. We particularly appreciated the pool at the fitness/health center and spa across the street, which was great fun and very convenient to buy groceries and more. Definitely one of the top rentals I ever booked - it should not be missed.

This is simply an amazingly beautiful place. We stayed here with the family (6 persons) and got a lot of space, great furniture, a wonderful location and a very, very warm welcome from Paola and Ken. We were afraid the apartment was too far from the center - it is actually the opposite, it is walking distance and you get there in minutes by bus too. The apartment was very clean when we arrived and found a very well-stocked house. There is internet too and I could check my work from time to time. Absolutely not to be missed, cannot find anything better - I am saying this in the most enthusiastic way.

TWO GREAT WEEKS IN BOLOGNA

Guest: PG63 (Somerset, UK)
Date of Stay: 10/11/08 Review Submitted: 10/08/09

AL PARCO REVIEW My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Al Parco in September 2009. The apartment lived up to its listing description; indeed, it exceeded it. It was well furnished, well equipped, clean and comfortable. A lot of thought had evidently gone into anticipating guests' needs, with little things like an introductory bus pass, drink in the fridge and free local calls on the telephone making one feel at home. The air con was useful in hot weather and the balcony is large, with comfortable furniture. We were met on arrival and given a comprehensive introduction to the apartment, supplemented with written briefing. Paola accommodated our minor requests before our visit and both she and Ken were most helpful. (Paola's English is impeccable!) The apartment's location is very convenient for local services. There are plenty of shops nearby, including a good supermarket, and a selection of restaurants, including take-aways. A regular, frequent and inexpensive bus route passes the apartment and goes directly into the city, passing the central railway station and the bus station en route. We had no need of a car, but there is secure parking on site. The airport is not far and the taxi ride cost us only 15 euros. There is a taxi rank 400 metres from the apartment. We made several trips into Bologna, which has a lot to offer - culture, shopping, restaurants etc. It was not too crowded and although prices at bars in the centre had a premium they were not as bad as Venice, Florence etc. We took advantage of the railway system to visit Parma, Ferrara, Modena and Ravenna. The services are convenient and not expensive, though Ravenna is less easy to get to. All 4 are worth the trouble; each has something exceptional to offer. We had a memorable holiday, in which Al Parco played its part. This is an apartment which I can recommend without reservation

Really comfortable, brand new, clean, roomy apartment, conveniently located for the city centre The owners are very warm, easy-going people (we really had a great time talking to them about different issues) and made us feel at home; they really cared about every little detail in the flat and I must say we never before had such a warm welcome (even with fresh wine, food and soft drinks for the kids !) One of the best properties we´ve stayed in. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!

This is the best rental we've ever had, from an exceptional family, all of whom speak English. The apartment is very attractive and comfortable with every facility you could need. It is located in a brand new complex with secure parking. The area is just about within walking distance of the old town, but the frequent cheap bus service is obviously much quicker. Nearby is Bologna's spread out version of Chinatown. There are good restaurants in the vicinity, and a good takeaway pizza shop round the corner. A major asset is the excellent Co-op supermarket a couple of minutes away, with a brilliant choice of good food at reasonable prices. Access by car to the motorway system is very quick and painless. Driving in the area is a doddle, with Italian drivers being much more patient and competent than Londoners. The weather was very hot in August, but evening meals on he balcony were fabulous. The view into the eponymous park was always a fascinating diversion. The photos make it seem further away than it is. The excellent air conditioning in the flat made sleeping unproblematic despite the outside temperature. The area was very quiet while we were there. We all enjoyed our stay very much, and would definitely rent again when returning to Bologna. The owners are really exceptional. We had a problem with our car, and they really made a fantastic effort to solve it. They made phone calls for us and found a solution with very little hassle. This is not he sort of kindness you encounter very often. Beautiful Bologna is a great place to base a holiday, and the apartment is a guaranteed attraction. Have no doubts, this is a really top rental. Many thanks to Paola and family for a wonderful holiday in a fabulous location. Ciao!

Hello, we stayed at Al Parco apartment for a week at the end of July and we would just like to let you know that we had a wonderful time! The apartment is spacious and has so many fantastic facilities - and thank you very much for the all the delicious food! The location was perfect, as we were able to walk to the bus stop in 1 minute, and the supermarket was just down the street. Ken was also very accommodating. He made sure that we knew how all of the appliances worked and even told us information about Bologna. Thank you also for the bus ticket. Thank you again, we will definitely recommend your apartment to anyone who is traveling to Bologna.

My husband and I travel to Europe once or twice a year, and can honestly say that the accommodations at Al Parco apartment in Bologna were the best we've ever experienced. Not only is the apartment immaculate and large, but the owner Paola and her husband Ken went far beyond our expectations to provide us with the information and supplies we would need during our stay (even beverages and snacks!). The area is so convenient. There is an excellent supermarket right across the street, a great bakery for morning coffee and pastry a 5 minute walk away, and a bus that brings you right to the center of town. The area does not feel touristy at all, you can really relax and feel at home. One of our favorite things about our stay was the large balcony in the apartment - every day we made it a must-do to spend some time sitting outside. The light within the apartment is lovely too, especially soothing in the afternoon after a long day of walking the city. For us, Al Parco has set a new standard for an apartment rental. We hope to come back soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in this super apartment, the best we ever stayed in. It’s elegant, very comfortable, full of light, super-equipped and with a tremendous balcony. The owners are lovely people who made us feel at home and thought about everything. The position is really convenient: much better than right in the old centre (it is just outside it but very near) because you miss out on the traffic and it’s so light and green, with space around you. The bus stop is just outside (buses are really very frequent) and the old centre is just 5 minutes. Everything you want is within hand’s reach, without having to look around for it - the little shops around and especially the mall just the other side of the road. Bologna is a really nice old city with lots to see and enjoy. We’ll definitely recommend this wonderful apartment and Bologna to our friends in the States and hope to come back ourselves soon!

It is a wonderful apartment that exceeded our expectations: very light, roomy, comfortable, very well-furnished with great attention for detail. The photos don’t do it justice! We greatly enjoyed sitting out on the spacious balcony, looking over the park. Also the location is very convenient: the bus stop is just outside (and in a couple of minutes you are in the old centre) but when we fancied, we walked to Piazza Maggiore. It is perfect for touring: we were able to easily get out of town on a couple of daytrips to Ferrara and Ravenna. “Centro Minganti” (the mall- two minutes’ walk) is also a great plus: for shopping, takeaway food, cafés, etc. We took advantage of the swimming-pool: it was great after a day’s sightseeing! Paola, our hostess, made us feel at home : she spent time telling us about the area and showing where things were. She even provided food to get us started and a very welcome bowl of fresh fruit! We greatly appreciated her attention to our comfort: very nice bedding, linen, towels (and a lot of them) and all the necessary things in the beautiful bathrooms. We could hardly have been more pleased: a very positive experience.

"Because of a fair I attended in February my husband and I had the pleasure of being the very first guests of this brand new rental. The area is so convenient and nice, typical Bolognese with everything at hand -- I could reach the center in minutes, the fairground is really at walking distance and so is the station. Everything in the house was as described, but pictures don't do the place justice, it is much nicer than you see on the internet. Great terrace, great decoration, I was really impressed. Paola was a great host too. Two thumbs up for Al Parco."

"We doubted for a long time whether it was a good idea to make a trip to Bologna with our 2 small children of 1 and 2 years old. But it was a big success, thanks to this wonderful place and the warm welcome we received! The apartment is very spacious, extremely well equipped, nicely furnished and very conveniently located. We found everything we needed, and even much more than that. The terrace and its view on the trees are terrific: the kids enjoyed running around and we ate dinner outside every night. A big thank you to Paola in particular for making 2 lovely beds for the children and providing us with 2 high chairs in the kitchen! That was fantastic. We also found fresh fruit and quite a few other nice surprises, which made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The location is also very convenient: buses to the centre are frequent, but we did not even need them that often since it is definitely possible to walk into town. The mall across the street is great and the playground was perfect. We had a wonderful stay and definitely recommend "Al Parco" to other people. We hope to be back one day ourselves."
