A break at this Siena country house is ideal for taking a language course, enjoying the Palio of Siena, taking wine tasting tours, all of which we can organize for you.
Legnaia, whose name means woodshed, was converted from the original woodshed of Borgo Portagioia, part of an ancient convent. The country home sits on the right corner of the property and is accessed from a welcoming terraced patio at the front of the house. The large arched glass doors lead you right into the large open living area, with lounge, fireplace and fully equipped kitchen. The back of the house hosts a double and a twin bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, downstairs is another large double room, a smaller double bedroom, a bathroom and a laundry room. The front terrace is equipped with table, chairs, loungers, BBQ and umbrellas.
Legnaia shares the entrance gate and the large pool with just one other independent, 2 bedroom house. Please contact us for details.

Six of us had a wonderful week in this lovely house. For our arrival, the owners provided us with directions in Italian to give our taxi driver at the Siena train station, but at the last minute we ended up arriving in a rental car, so we had to figure out on our own how to find the house. It turned out to be easy, and it also was easy to get into town or explore the countryside. The owners were very communicative before our arrival, and readily available while we were there. The house is clean, bright, nicely furnished, well-equipped, and worked well for three couples to share, which is often hard to find. One tip: you can't buy a ticket for the bus on the bus, nor can you buy one in town. It can be an expensive penalty if you're caught, so do try to buy your bus tickets ahead of time. We only had to use the bus once, and boarded without tickets. We rode into town in fear of an official boarding the bus and handing out penalties, which didn't happen. We visited Siena on several different days, including a self-guided contrada scavenger hunt in which we tried to find the headquarters of each contrada (success!). If you're staying here in the autumn, do go see the floors of the Siena Duomo, which are covered most of the year. They are utterly spectacular, as is the whole cathedral. We also got up early on a Sunday morning to go hear live Gregorian chanting in the ancient abbey of Sant'Antimo, a serene and lovely place. And we drank A LOT of good local wine! Take the owners' advice and book a tour with Dario--he's fantastic, and easy to correspond with ahead of time via email. This was a great base for a fantastic week of exploring the region around Siena, and we'd recommend it to anyone. We'd also gladly return!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My family(husband, and adult 20something children including son, his new wife and our daughter) had a great time in the villa! We came from Chicago, Memphis and KC. Upon arrival, Francesca and her husband made us pizzas(so many we had them for appetizers all week with wine--lots of wine!) which is a FABULOUS way to start a week in Tuscany. We explored Siena (much more beautiful cathedral than Florence!), San Giamiango(sp?), Chianti--do stop at Dario's butcher shop in Panzano for salt and well a party! And go to the wine shop/museum in Greve with 110 wines to taste!!! What a fun experience. Actually the butcher there and in SIena were also quite and experience--they all seem to be serving wine and tastes for free with music blasting! But of course, good salesmanship--we bought cheeses, meat and wine.. We had great times in various small towns south including Pienza and did our pilgrimage to Florence. Lots of great info in the villa for surrounding area and DO take Francesca advise. She sent us to a restaurant by the airport(Local airport) that had the BEST Florentine steaks--could have ordered one but did not know they were the size of a pot roast! Returned for another night. And do have BOAR everything. We loved our hosts and the pool (plus Walley the electronic pool cleaner), where we relaxed every night. Who knew it was light until 9:30?. Surprised how roomy the bedrooms were--smallish living space inside but we spent all our time outside in the lounge sofas anyway. Great instructions on how to get there--but do download the Italian maps into a GPS or get one with your car--saved us! We are happy we stayed here and would do it again in a minute! Have recommended it to everyone and bored them with photos! Great service from the rental agent as well as Francesca has limited English(but much more than I have Italian). I asked a million questions via emails and all were promptly answered with humor and details. Go here to see Tuscany!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

While visiting Italy last month we had a week in Tuscany staying in Siena at this villa. We could not have been more comfortable anywhere and we can not put into words all that we would wish to say. As the larger of the two villas was already rented we took the smaller one which worked out great for us, two senior couples one from Canada the other from Australia. We were thrilled to find it exactly as the pictures show it, spotlessly clean and set out with care. The little extra touches made this rental accomodation feel more like a home. The pool is big enough to have fun and it too is very clean and well maintained. Francesca and her son Alessandro were very warm and welcoming and gave us information we needed to get about. Francesca and her family do a wonderful job of keeping the villas in top condition. You will find that Francesca is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We rented a car and did day trips from the villa which worked out great. If we ever get the chance to visit Siena again we will not hesitate to stay here and we will recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet, restful place minutes outside Siena itself. Our favourite village had to be Montalcino which we came upon while looking for the Banfi Winery. What a wonderful old place Montalcino is and so high up on a hill that the views are amazing. If you get the chance to go there give yourself lots of time to explore both the fort and the village itself. We had lunch at a little restaurant, in their outside eating area, which sits in a small park with a great view. The food and the service was excellent and the waitress went out of her way to be friendly and helpful. I just wish we had thought to write down the name of the restaurant for this review. Thank you Francesca from 4 very grateful and satisfied visitors D, C, S and L.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

We stayed At La Chuisa for two weeks in July 2010 while cycling in the area. Everything about the property was excellent. Francesca and her son went above and beyond to make us welcome. Francesca even drove my wife to the local Coop and assisted with the selection of groceries. We wanted a base to recover and relax between cycling and La Chuisa was perfect. la Chuisa is in beautiful countryside, peaceful and quiet at night. But it is easy to get into Siena by bus or cab and we visited several times. Our advice is to stay at La Chuisa and to drive or cycle to such towns as Volterra, San Gimigiano, Montipulcino in the Val di Orcia and return to the poolside at La Chuisa. We will definitely be back. When not eating in, or going to Siena we discovered a great restaurant in Sovicille. At night we walked down the country lanes and visited local vineyards . . . . Perfect! Sorry to send this so late in writing our review. Many thanks for our wonderful time.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

Erica, We would like to thank you so much for providing the wonderful itineraries in your Borgo la Chiusa booklet. We followed 3 of the "trips" and had a truly fabulous time both driving thru the Tuscan hills and visiting uncrowded sites. And we didn't get lost even once! We intended on completing the Val di Merse, Montagnola, and Chianti itineraries but we had such a great time everywhere that we only finished parts of Val di Merse and Montagnola and never made it to Chianti! We spent several hours each at San Galgano, Radiacondoli, Casole d'Elsa, and Pieva Di Penina because they were so beautiful and interesting. There were other places we planned to visit, but we ran out of time, so it just means we have more to come back for! By the way, the gardens at Centinale were closed for renovation--something else to see when we return. We are definitely slow travelers to Italy and share your love of the beautiful sights and peaceful tranquility Tuscany has to offer. We especially appreciated Casole d'Elsa because they made it so easy to navigate the scooter up to the hilltop by providing elevators. That was an unexpected treat! We also again want to thank you and Francesca for helping us navigate our way to Siena--we followed the instructions and for the first time we didn't get lost! We even went back there one more time before leaving Italy! We would be remiss also If we didn't offer thanks for the wonderful restaurant suggestions. We ate in a bunch of them and found all to be wonderful! Our two weeks in Tuscany were everything we hoped for and more, and we will be sure to recommend you to any of our friends who are thinking of a Tuscan holiday. Thank you so much. Arriverderci and Mille Grazie!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 7/7

We loved Borgo La Chiusa !!! The property was in prestine condition, very well equipped, and very comfortable. Only minutes from Seinna, and grocery shopping nearby, the location gave you the beautiful Tuscan countryside, yet convienent for necessities. Although the new pool was under construction while we were there, I have no doubt it will be a welcome relief from the summer heat. Erica and Francesca, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay at Borgo La Chiusam, and we found it to be a real value for the price. Safe Travels BKRecommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

I want to thank you for all your help as we planned and booked our vacation in Tuscany. We LOVED our stay at Borgo La Chuisa!!! The country house was absolutely beautiful and the new inground pool was a nice surprise and a great addition to our trip! Francesca was great too and please tell her we thought her English was great! We will definitely recommend this place to friends and family and we will book again with you and come back to Borgo La Chuisa ourselves on our next Tuscany vacation. My wife and I stayed four nights with our son and daughter-in-law, and we found this apartment absolutely fabulous. Recently renovated with great style and taste, it still retains the feel of the Tuscan villa that adds so much to the experience of this incredible region. The photos are all "true-to-life"--what so often seems to good to be true in this case really is true! It is immaculately maintained, the travertine pool is an experience unto itself, the patios serene with idyllic views. The location is likewise ideal, just a few minutes from Siena, but far enough away to still maintain rural quietness and ambiance. Francesca and son Alessandro tended to every detail, and we saw them every day. The walk around the local lanes is also worthwhile and historical.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway.
