Cetona is a quintessential medieval Tuscan Hill town with fewer than three thousand inhabitants. Located within the quiet pedestrian only historic town center, La Terazza provides refined modern amenities the discriminating traveler expects with the culture and flavor one can only find in a medieval town. The main piazza with its shops, stores, cafes and restaurants is located only minutes away by foot. Wander the winding streets of the town and savor the breathtaking views of the Tuscan hillsides, or relax in the garden and terraces that make La Terazza so unique.

La Terazza is entered through a private courtyard on the street level A limestone and steel table and six chairs are located in the courtyard for Al Fresco dining and entertaining. On the ground level there is a living room and dining area with a fireplace and separate kitchen area. The kitchen comes fully equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, gas range, toaster oven, coffeemaker etc. Comfortably sleeping six people there is a master bedroom suite with a private full bath on the second floor and two additional bedrooms on the third level that share a full bathroom located on the second floor. We recently stayed at La Terrazza and had a wonderful stay. Quaint town with two nice restaurants, our favorite Osteria Merlo. Most of our trips were within a one hour car drive. We saw Perugia, Assissi, San Gimignano, Volterra and Orvieto. A car is a must. La Terrazza was a wonderful comfortable place to come home to. Great views and very clean. On the weekend the piazza was loaded with kids playing and older folks sipping their expresso.

Vacationing at La Terazza was a dream come true for me and my two best friends. We flew into Rome and rented a car and had an easy drive to Cetona. After doing the "tourist stops" in Rome, it was very unique and lovely to spend a week in Cetona. We felt like we were really experiencing a true Italian experience. The villa is perfect with every convenience that your home would have. The owner was very helpful in giving us all the details that we needed. It was very clean, well maintained, and exceeded our expectations in every way. We really used the wifi to connect with friends at home and to download all of our beautiful picures of where we were staying! We even had fresh basil and tomatoes from the garden in the back to make some very memorable meals and eat together on the upstairs terrace. Many laughs and joy were shared as we drank wine that we bought down the street at the local shops. I was worried about gaining weight after eating and drinking so well but we walked everywhere. We felt very safe and the pace of life is so relaxing. We drove to many little towns in Tuscany and even went to Florence one day. It was a very easy drive back "home". I can't wait to come back!

I just returned from a week stay with my wife and 2 teenage children. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is well equipped and as charming as the pictures suggest. I especially enjoyed mornings on the terrace. As one guest wrote in the guestbook, sit more drive less! The owner and local property manager are incredible. Cetona is an located in one of the most picturesque portions of Tuscany. The views in every direction are magical. The local shops are quite nice and we managed to communicate speaking very little Italian. The 2 local restaurants are both very nice, we preferred Osteria del Merlo. Be prepared for some hill climbing. The road up to La Terazza is a very steep cobblestone lane straight out of a travel brochure. Not too hard for a reasonably fit person, but I doubt a wheelchair would work. The spiral stairs look intimidating, but they were old hat by day 3. Molto Buono!

We just spent a week at La Terazza and had a great time. This well restored home had everything we needed for a comfortable stay for our family of 4. Really enjoyed the upper deck and garden with views of the scenery over the rooftops. Found the owner to be extremely responsive to all our questions by email and very informative about the region. On his suggestion we drove the loop from Cetona to Radicofani to Montichiello and back. Was one of our best days in Tuscany. Also, go see the village of Castiglione di Lago. Wonderful medieval hilltop town with fantastic lake views from a restored castle. Would definitely recommend La Terazza for anyone looking for a unique home in a beautiful (and not touristy) historic Tuscan town.

We spent two weeks at La Terazza and had a wonderful experience. The town, Cetona, is a quiet and peaceful town, with friendly people and beautiful scenery. We used La Terazza as our base as we drove all over Tuscany and visited a different hill town each day. The house, true to the pictures in the description, was located on three levels on a hillside. The gardens and patio were wonderful, with viewed for 10 miles over the Tuscan countryside. The manager was extremely helpful, and spoke excellent English. The plaza had wonderful local shops: butcher, baker, cheeses, wines and produce. Each Saturday, the plaza was filled with vendors or all types. The restaurants were absolutely delicious, and the staff remembered us after our first visit. This is a beautiful and charming hill town, with few tourists, that makes you one of its own for your time there.

we recently returned from our week long stay in cetona and la terazza. the descriptions in the other reviews were spot on. the caretaker was helpful and charming. the property was true to the photos and the town is a gem. no tourists...a terrific home base to drive to nearby hill towns. we found that we loved getting back to cetona each evening. we could stroll the piazza and had wonderful dinners at the local restaurants. getting to know the locals at the shops was fun, they were all friendly, helpful, and the food was all so fresh. great wine and olive oils right from the region. we would love to return someday.

Prior to our arrival at La Terraza, the owner gave prompt information to all our questions. When we arrived in Cetona, the stress of travel and airplanes and rental cars immediately melted off our shoulders. This town is Quaint and Beautiful. To stay in this town for one week is to truly experience the Italian Life, not an extremely touristy town like other neighboring hill towns. Each morning, we would stop at the ACLI for super creamy espresso for very cheap. We would then go out to experience Tuscany in day trips to the surrounding hill towns of Montalcino, Montepulcino, Florence, San Gmignano and more. Many are close enough to drive and see multiple towns in a day. We would park our car in the lot outside the town center and breathe a sigh of relief to be back in our "hometown" of Cetona. The locals here are Wonderful and inviting. As we would walk up to La Terraza to get dressed for the evening, we would stop and sit at Bar Cavour in the main piazza for a glass of wine or a shot of espresso or yummy gelato. The siesta in this town is long, but the bar remains open, as do a couple shops. Dinner at most places around this hill town begin at 7:30. There were two restaurants that were our favorite all within walking distance. And what an enjoyable walk it is. Gorgeous brick buildings and brick roads, each step is filled with awe at the beauty and age of this hill town. There is also a fantastic Pizzeria a short walk near the elementary school. As for La Terraza itself, we fell in love. The housekeeper greeted us with a clean house, fresh flowers on the table and fresh picked herbs from the garden. Luxurious towels and bathrobes were at our disposal in the extremely clean bathroom. As we sat on the terrace overlooking the mountain view we had, the gardener came and greeted us. We were able to enjoy dining al fresco with the fruit of the garden a couple afternoons: tomatoes, plums, cucumbers, rosemary.... it was all beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing town that has all the comforts yet the character of the medeival age, you will Love La Terraza.

John and Liz, Just got back from Rome and I'm still on Italy time. As was the case five years ago, my family enjoyed staying at La Terazza in Cetona. Each morning my eldest daughter would run the town and finish her exercise with a sprint up the the steep via down the way. I could have spent the entire 10 days sitting on your terrace sipping wine and eating peppers, olives and cheese. The girls had other plans so after 6 days in Cetona we visited Florence, Pescara, and of course Rome. I'll recommend La Terazza to all who ask and I look forward to visiting there again. Respectfully, Frank and Janice

My wife and I spent 10 days in this beautiful historic three level Villa with another couple. The Villa was clean and well maintained. The owner and the local property manager were very helpful and easy to deal with. It is the perfect size for two couples, with two bedrooms with very comfortable queen size beds, two bathrooms, plus a smaller bedroom with 2 twin beds. It comes well equiped with everything you would need in the kitchen. But the best thing about this Villa is the top floor terrace and the garden above it overlooking the town and the countryside. We spent many hours up there drinking wine in sunshine and watching the stars at night. The tomatoes in the garden were ripe and delicious and we made our own brushetta and tomato sauce. The other great thing about this place is the town of Cetona a beautiful old mountain town with narrow streets and historic stone houses. You are a five minute walk to the town Piazza, where you will find two excellent restaurants, a wine store, bakery, post office, bar, cheese and butcher shops, and the Caffe Sporto, which is open all day seven days a week. There you can get your espresso and caffe lattes, pastry and snacks, and beer and wine. We had a rental car and took easy day trips to Sienna, Perugia, Cortuna, Assissi, and Montepulciano. It was a ten minute drive to the train station where we took a two hour train to Florence. The best part of the trip for me was just hanging out at the Villa, walking around exploring Cetona, and the two restaurants in town. I would recommend the Villa and Cetona to family and friends. The weather in September was perfect, sunny all but one day, 70's in the daytime and 60's at night. You enter through a large

                                  Owner info

                                  Year Purchased: 2002

About the owner: I am an architect and lived/studied in Florence twenty years ago, and after getting married, decided to purchase a vacation home in Italy. Since we bought our house, we have had 2 children and have brought them to Italy to experience a unique and wonderful experience that can be found in a location like Cetona.

                                  Why the Owner Chose Cetona:
We had visited this region of Italy numerous times before we decided to buy a home in Cetona. The area is perfectly situated to visit and experience all the character and qualities of Tuscany and be within a short distance of dozens of fantastic destinations like Florence, Siena, Orvieto, the wine towns etc. Cetona is a perfectly sophisticated but intimate historical hill town that provides every possible experience that is desired from a trip to Italy without any sense of tourism. There are no tour buses and no crowds, children play in the piazza and the parents and residents sip drinks from the cafe's on the piazza. You can do as much as or as little as you want - a truly unique vacation experience.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Staying within the historic pedestrian only town center as opposed to a villa in the country allows you to truly experience the lifestyle and character of a italian village. You can walk down to multiple restaurants and shops, and not have to drive anywhere for anything. Everything that you need for an unforgettable vacation experience is located within a few minutes walk. You will hear the Italian spoken in the streets and in the shops, but will be able to converse in English if you do not know the language. The sounds you will hear are roosters crowing in the morning, the breeze and the birds. A truly relaxing experience. If you want to sightsee, all of the major and minor destinations in Tuscany and Umbria are within a short and convenient drive. The main rail station in Chiusi is very convenient and allows travel to Florence in one hour, and Rome in 1-1/2.
