Located less than two hours from Rome and Florence, La Terazza is centrally located for exploring all of Tuscany and central Italy. Cetona is a quintessential medieval Tuscan Hill town with fewer than three thousand inhabitants. Located within the quiet pedestrian only historic town center, La Terazza provides refined modern amenities the discriminating traveler expects with the culture and flavor one can only find in a medieval town. The main piazza with its shops, stores, cafes and restaurants is located only minutes away by foot. Wander the winding streets of the town and savor the breathtaking views of the Tuscan hillsides, or relax in the garden and terraces that make La Terazza so unique.
La Terazza is entered through a private courtyard on the street level A limestone and steel table and six chairs are located in the courtyard for Al Fresco dining and entertaining. On the ground level there is a living room and dining area with a fireplace and separate kitchen area. The kitchen comes fully equipped with a refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, gas range, toaster oven, coffeemaker etc. Comfortably sleeping six people there is a master bedroom suite with a private full bath on the second floor and two additional bedrooms on the third level that share a full bathroom located on the second floor. Access to the terrace and gardens is from the third level. A small bistro table and two lounges are located on the terrace. A private passage from the terrace leads to a small gate that opens onto a small side street.
La Terazza is unique in that it has expansive exterior spaces and gardens in a central location within the historic center or 'centro' of Cetona. There are no other properties in the Centro of Cetona that provide a ground floor cortile and multiple levels of terraces and gardens. The produce from our garden is available for your consumption during your visit, and there are tomatoes, cucumbers, artichokes and herbs to be picked. The garden and property are meticuously maintained by a neighbor who cares for the property as if it was there own. All of the restaurants and shops in Cetona are just steps from the house, but there is no noise or traffic.
When staying at La Terazza, we have a local Rental agent who has their office in the main piazza, and will meet you upon your arrival. Your bags will be transported up to the house and you will be given a thorough introduction to the house and its functions. La Terazza - Historic Home in the Centro of Medieval Cetona
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Cetona
We had visited this region of Italy numerous times before we decided to buy a home in Cetona. The area is perfectly situated to visit and experience all the character and qualities of Tuscany and be within a short distance of dozens of fantastic destinations like Florence, Siena, Orvieto, the wine towns etc. Cetona is a perfectly sophisticated but intimate historical hill town that provides every possible experience that is desired from a trip to Italy without any sense of tourism. There are no tour buses and no crowds, children play in the piazza and the parents and residents sip drinks from the cafe's on the piazza. You can do as much as or as little as you want - a truly unique vacation experience.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Staying within the historic pedestrian only town center as opposed to a villa in the country allows you to truly experience the lifestyle and character of a italian village. You can walk down to multiple restaurants and shops, and not have to drive anywhere for anything. Everything that you need for an unforgettable vacation experience is located within a few minutes walk. You will hear the Italian spoken in the streets and in the shops, but will be able to converse in English if you do not know the language. The sounds you will hear are roosters crowing in the morning, the breeze and the birds. A truly relaxing experience. If you want to sightsee, all of the major and minor destinations in Tuscany and Umbria are within a short and convenient drive. The main rail station in Chiusi is very convenient and allows travel to Florence in one hour, and Rome in 1-1/2.
This is an Agriturismo/farm that has some of the best olive oil, grappa and other local delicacies that can be found
Wonderful resort like spa with a large outdoor 'hot' swimming pool, including a small 'kids' pool along with every kind of spa treatment imaginable
Local Shopping center with large grocery store, clothing, bookstore, appliances, cleaners etc.
Owner's Map of Cetona
I am an architect and lived/studied in Florence twenty years ago, and after getting married, decided to purchase a vacation home in Italy. Since we bought our house, we have had 2 children and have brought them to Italy to experience a unique and wonderful experience that can be found in a location like Cetona.

Prior to our arrival at La Terraza, the owner gave prompt information to all our questions. When we arrived in Cetona, the stress of travel and airplanes and rental cars immediately melted off our shoulders. This town is Quaint and Beautiful. To stay in this town for one week is to truly experience the Italian Life, not an extremely touristy town like other neighboring hill towns. Each morning, we would stop at the ACLI for super creamy espresso for very cheap. We would then go out to experience Tuscany in day trips to the surrounding hill towns of Montalcino, Montepulcino, Florence, San Gmignano and more. Many are close enough to drive and see multiple towns in a day. We would park our car in the lot outside the town center and breathe a sigh of relief to be back in our "hometown" of Cetona. The locals here are Wonderful and inviting. As we would walk up to La Terraza to get dressed for the evening, we would stop and sit at Bar Cavour in the main piazza for a glass of wine or a shot of espresso or yummy gelato. The siesta in this town is long, but the bar remains open, as do a couple shops. Dinner at most places around this hill town begin at 7:30. There were two restaurants that were our favorite all within walking distance. And what an enjoyable walk it is. Gorgeous brick buildings and brick roads, each step is filled with awe at the beauty and age of this hill town. There is also a fantastic Pizzeria a short walk near the elementary school. As for La Terraza itself, we fell in love. The housekeeper greeted us with a clean house, fresh flowers on the table and fresh picked herbs from the garden. Luxurious towels and bathrobes were at our disposal in the extremely clean bathroom. As we sat on the terrace overlooking the mountain view we had, the gardener came and greeted us. We were able to enjoy dining al fresco with the fruit of the garden a couple afternoons: tomatoes, plums, cucumbers, rosemary.... it was all beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing town that has all the comforts yet the character of the medeival age, you will Love La Terraza.

John and Liz, Just got back from Rome and I'm still on Italy time. As was the case five years ago, my family enjoyed staying at La Terazza in Cetona. Each morning my eldest daughter would run the town and finish her exercise with a sprint up the the steep via down the way. I could have spent the entire 10 days sitting on your terrace sipping wine and eating peppers, olives and cheese. The girls had other plans so after 6 days in Cetona we visited Florence, Pescara, and of course Rome. I'll recommend La Terazza to all who ask and I look forward to visiting there again. Respectfully, Frank and Janice

My wife and I spent 10 days in this beautiful historic three level Villa with another couple. The Villa was clean and well maintained. The owner and the local property manager were very helpful and easy to deal with. It is the perfect size for two couples, with two bedrooms with very comfortable queen size beds, two bathrooms, plus a smaller bedroom with 2 twin beds. It comes well equiped with everything you would need in the kitchen. But the best thing about this Villa is the top floor terrace and the garden above it overlooking the town and the countryside. We spent many hours up there drinking wine in sunshine and watching the stars at night. The tomatoes in the garden were ripe and delicious and we made our own brushetta and tomato sauce. The other great thing about this place is the town of Cetona a beautiful old mountain town with narrow streets and historic stone houses. You are a five minute walk to the town Piazza, where you will find two excellent restaurants, a wine store, bakery, post office, bar, cheese and butcher shops, and the Caffe Sporto, which is open all day seven days a week. There you can get your espresso and caffe lattes, pastry and snacks, and beer and wine. We had a rental car and took easy day trips to Sienna, Perugia, Cortuna, Assissi, and Montepulciano. It was a ten minute drive to the train station where we took a two hour train to Florence. The best part of the trip for me was just hanging out at the Villa, walking around exploring Cetona, and the two restaurants in town. I would recommend the Villa and Cetona to family and friends. The weather in September was perfect, sunny all but one day, 70's in the daytime and 60's at night. You enter through a large

We have just returned from 3 weeks in Italy, 2 of which were spent in the wonderful town of Cetona which is central to all the places one would want to visit in Tuscany. We made days trips to Assisi, Florence, Rome (by train from Chiusi), San Gimignano, Montepulciano and Pienza to name a few. At the end of each day we were able to return to this great property with it's spectacular view of the surrounding countryside. Being right in the town of Cetona, this location allowed us to live as the locals do; wandering down to the piaza for cappucino each morning, shopping each day at the local markets, eating at great little restaurants and getting to know some of the local residents. This was everything I hoped our holiday would be. One day we will return to La Terazza and will certainly recommend it to friends travelling to the area.

We were very pleased with La Terazza and could not have been happier with our decision to stay in Cetona. We just loved the perfect setting and in particular the views from the quaint patio overlooking the picturesque countryside. We were also very impressed with La Terazza's local representatives who were very helpful and went out of their way to insure our stay in Cetona was memorable! The restaurants, local inhabitants and medieval setting satisfied our quest for the perfect Tuscan vacation! We look forward to our next stay at La Terazza, and will certainly recommend it to our friends who are considering a Tuscan vacation!
