Architect's House 2 Miles to South Congress, Hot Tub

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Austin

It is so easy to get everywhere from here. In ten minutes, I can be downtown. In 8 minutes, at Barton Springs. 5 minutes to South Congress. Plus, the neighbors are fantastic and I can walk to two grocery stores, and many restaurants, bookstores, cinemas are nearby. I love to walk and bicycle and this house made both convenient. Plus I love to cook and the house is a quick drive to a gourmet market with a great selection and a florist.

The Unique Benefits at this House

I fell in love with the house the moment I walked in. The ancient oaks and the outdoor garden in the back are both reasons I love this house. My favorite room is the sunken stone room where I almost feel like I'm outdoors. I love the big steelcase windows for the same reason. Close to Austin City Limits, South by Southwest. Available for Republic of Texas Biker Rally (ROT Biker Rally).

F

After 35 years of eating Tacos in Austin, I found this place took Tacos to a whole new level. Do not miss a visit. Redefines tacos.

Walk up and down South Congress. Enjoy shopping, visit a restaurant (my favorites are Enoteca and Home Slice) or listen to music (I like Continental Club).

The natives were using this pool for hundreds of years before Austin was founded. Find out why. Open year round and spring fed. The most valued Austin attraction.

This walking, running and biking trail is where everyone comes to exercise, catch up with friends, and take in the beauty of the lake that goes right through Austin.

Owner's Map of Austin

I was born in Austin. My hometown is like peeling an onion; there is always more to discover. I enjoy traveling and have lived abroad for several years, but I keep coming back here. I lived in this home for three years and made several upgrades for myself that I'm glad that others get a chance to enjoy.

    • On very short notice, we were pleased to book and stay in this lovely 50+ year old home. Everything was in beautiful condition; the decor was both modern and pleasing. Enjoyed the hot tub, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, and the new shower - what can we say?! Thanks to Chris for responding quickly and kindly on issues particular to our family's needs. We would love to stay here again. Austin remains on our very short list of most awesome cities to visit.

    • What a wonderful place to stay! We pulled up, unloaded and took our little dog out for a stroll. The neighbors across the street were out (2 different houses) and made us feel welcome. One neighbor brought out a newspaper with an article we enjoyed and another gave us a starter plant. Then the house; it worked out so well for our family reunion. Three couples and three children with privacy for all. It was definitely a positive experience with quick access to South Congess, mall, downtown, bat bridge and restaurants. The place is charming and user friendly and delightfully decorated.

I will strongly recommend anyone the house to any family or group of friends who would like to visit Austin. The location is about eight minutes away from downtown district. All neighbors a were friendly and no-one seemed to be bothered. Cheers!!

    • The house was very spacious, comfortable, and well maintained. With easy access to Ben White (HWY 71), it also made getting around town very easy.

    • This place worked out well during my daughter's recent wedding at the Barr Mansion in Austin. As mother of the bride I needed space for my gal pals to do some last minute pre-wedding chores, and this place worked out well. Plenty of room with additional folks dropping by to help. I was a little uncertain about the neighborhood at first, but it was very safe and accomodating. I'd took long walks thru the neighborhood each morning. It's centrally located so that I could take my friends to experience SoCongress 1st Thursday, the Clay Pit, The Oasis, etc. Love the decor of the well-laid out floor plan. Only thing I missed was a full length mirror. A definite do again!

    • Our son got married recently and I booked this lovely residence for my family of 6. We had a fantastic time with plenty of room for all of us to enjoy our mini family reunion, with additional guests dropping in from time to time. It rained most of our visit, but there was more than enough space inside for us to spread out comfortably between the dining room, den and living room. It was very easy to get to 6th Street, South Congress, the airport (this was a breeze) and of course the wedding chapel. I didn't have to fight I-35 except for the trip in. The house was very clean and decorated to please & impress any guest. The wireless was great as my husband had to work one day. It was nice the master bedroom is split from the other two bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable, as well as the furniture in the den and living room. The hits were Central Market (especially on Sat. when cooking demo's were being held), Amy's Ice Cream, Azul Mexican (see Ivan) & gingerbread pancakes at Magnolia Cafe (on S. Congress). We all agreed we would like to return to Austin and we will stay here. I highly recommend this home to anyone who wants a great place to stay with a great host.

    • I had the pleasure of staying in this property during SXSW 2009 w/ a few colleagues - what a treat! It was a wonderful, peaceful respite from all of the craziness of the music festival. It's very easy to get downtown from the house - we had some people taking the bus and another guest had a car - both were good options. Chris + his staff are extremely pleasant and accommodating! The house had just been redecorated and looked beautiful, esp the master bathroom and the "rec room"! We spent a lot of time in the backyard and in the hot tub :) We're definitely planning on trying to snag this rental again next year. Thanks again!

    • Stayed in this house with friends this past weekend and had a fabulous time! The house is very cute and the beds are comfortable. Easy location to get around Austin to SoCo, SoLamar and downtown. Will certainly recommend to others!

      Homeowner Response:
D'Ann, it was a pleasure to host a fellow Austinite for a homecoming of sorts. Y'all come back, ya hear? Thanks, Chris

    • We came into Austin for a family wedding and we needed a place that we could bake the cakes and hold my family plus the Mom's. We had a fantastic time! This house is well cared for and well stocked and so much nicer then staying in a hotel. We had one issue with the garbage disposal and the owner was at the home within a 1/2 hr of our phone call to fix it himself. We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in town!
