What a lovely cottage. Even nicer than the photos. Very well kept and clean. Well equipped with every utensil you might need in the way of cooking and even some spices, oils, etc. View of the water is perfect since it is slightly shaded by trees and provides the feeling of privacy while still providing waterfront access and view. Beautiful grounds that are well kept, but have a natural look. I noticed a nice array of birds in the area and even saw several hummingbirds. Short walk down to the water with a somewhat private area of the beach. (Sunrises are stunning from the beach) The owner was very helpful and accommodating. Provided very clear instruction, helpful hints about town, and backup phone numbers in case of anything needed. He also returned the deposit very quickly. I'm a software engineer and had to rely daily on the broadband wifi. It's reasonably good (I think it was 2 or 3 MB down and 1.5 up). The wifi was good and reliable which was critical for me. Only a couple of blocks away is a fantastic lobster restaurant that is right on the docks and gets very fresh lobster. They will cook them up any way you want (I actually had them lightly boil the lobster so I could take them home and saute them the rest of the way). Everyone is friendly and accommodating in the very nice little town. The town has a nice little store reminiscent of an old general market with upscale wines and choices of food, not a wide array but nice upscale choices. There are also a few nice restaurants in town to choose from. Access to town is quite easy (maybe a mile or two?) and a short drive over to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park about 15-20 minutes. I also recommend chartering one of the local sailboats - there are some stunning, old sailboats in the area. Just fantastic. Also - the Nature Tour out of Bar Harbor on the big catamaran was a big plus too for any nature lovers. I got to see a wealth of gorgeous scenery, wide array of birds and water fowl, Egg Rock Lighthouse and a few seals in the water. And don't miss out on the top of Cadillac Mountain- I went on a cloudy day and got the distinct pleasure of looking down on the cloud cover. Also there is a ferry to the cranberry islands within walking distance (maybe half a mile?). Anyway - I can't recommend this cottage highly enough. It was just the perfect combination of peace, quiet and privacy in a lovely setting with easy access to everything.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The house is lovely--spacious, modern, with classic style. The two kayaks that come with the property are great for accessing the private beach. Ed is a very nice guy and was accommodating of our need to park two cars. Super-close to Southwest Harbor town center. Great rental.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

This "cottage" was an absolutely beautiful home base for my family's first visit to Mount Desert Island. We are a family of 4, including 2 teenagers. All of the Acadia activities were easily accessible. And everything we could ask for could be found right in Southwest Harbor. The home was very clean and very well equipped/furnished. The bathrooms and kitchen have all the modern amenities. The huge east-facing windows keep the interior naturally bright. The large deck is a great spot for lunch/dinner, and the waterfront is ideal for peaceful contemplation. The surrounding landscape must be seen to be fully appreciated - WOW! The property owner was very helpful and easy to work with. Not that we ever needed him, but the property also has a local caretaker to contact for any problems; we met him and he was very friendly. We highly recommend this property. Nearby recommendations: Favorite hikes: Champlain, Penobscot, and Pemetic mountains. Favorite restaurant: Seafood Ketch in Bass Harbor (at sunset!). Favorite market: Sawyer's in Southwest Harbor -- get the steaks!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We really enjoyed our stay on the quiet side of the island. This beautiful home has everything you need and is within walking distance to the best lobster pound on the island! We enjoyed walking to main street and enjoying the local restaurants and shops as well. The water view, beach, pine needle path and gorgeous garden reminds you to relax and enjoy! Plus the deposit was returned within 2 weeks! Great house, great people to work with and an awesome vacation! We will be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Our first trip to Maine and the Bar Harbor area was enhanced by our stay in this modern cottage along with the hospitality shown by the owners Ed and Martie. The cottage was very comfortable and the setting was outstanding with beautiful sunrises over the water of Somes sound. There's plenty to do in the quaint Southwest Harbor area as well as the entire Acadia area. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would return again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a wonderful time during our stay in this beautiful cottage. It had every thing we needed for a great stay- comfortable beds, modern bathrooms and beautiful water views from the open living area and deck. The cottage was beautifully furnished with a nice mix antiques and northwoods and nautical styles. Ed and Marty were friendly and accomodating but gave us complete privacy. We particulary enjoyed beachcombing just a few steps from or door and watching the nesting ospreys and seals swimming in the harbor just off the cottage's beach. It was especially nice to be so close to the working harbor and to be within walking distance of town. We hope to come and stay again some day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The property was perfect for our fall vacation. The lovely, quiet, but convenient location was ideal for us. The house was great - open floor plan, lots of windows with views of the water, nicely designed and furnished, etc, etc. We found Southwest Harbor a delightful little village with good restaurants, interesting lobster/fishery wharfs, and proximity to so many island trails and vistas. We hope to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.
