Full of authentic 1940s charm, it was once a classic fishing getaway on a tidal creek - literally just a few steps out the screen door to the dock. Now with a new access gate on the dock launching your kayak or canoe is as close as 'right at your back door!' Just remember it is a tidal creek and can go dry at low tide!
Much of the original character of this precious cottage has been protected and cherished. You'll fall in love with the screened-in porch offering a view to your private wildlife sanctuary and dock. The luxurious queen bedroom looks out onto the gorgeous marsh so no need to even get out of your pjs to start enjoying the coastal treasures.
The cottage is simplicity at its very best. Original wooden floors, vintage antique furniture along with coastal artifacts coax you to slow down. Yet, the cottage is equipped with all the right high tech gadgets to keep you connected. Of course there's a well-stocked and efficient kitchen with plenty of special outdoor seating for dining al fresco.
And, the Fiddler Cottage sits toward the end of a quiet street - just far enough away from the hub-bub of the busy public beach. A very special corner of paradise.
You'll find plenty of great literature and a large and thoughtful CD collection. You may very well hide the TV's remote control and curl up in a favorite comfy lounge chair for conversation, reading, napping, or just daydreaming!
And, the cottage comes with the lot across the street which affords privacy as well as ample parking for your boat and trailer. Get ready to witness awesome views of the coastal sunset over the marsh. Yes - the beautiful marsh cradles the Fiddler Cottage from both its front and back porches.
And, don't be afraid of the tiny Fiddler Crabs - - they're visible at low tide and scurry around at the marsh edge waving their teensy 'swords'. Quite a special show ..... if you slow down to notice these quirky coastal inhabitants.
Of course the Tybee Island beaches are just a quick 5 minute bike or car ride from this coastal home. And, if you have a water-loving dog, the creek at HIGH TIDE is ideal for canine swimming. Dogs are NOT allowed on the beaches at Tybee so your dock's private launching pad is the perfect paddling place for your 4 legged companion.

We loved the cottage. It had everything that we needed, including loads of interesting books and CD's. The cottage was immaculate. It was the perfect escape after a hectic holiday season. And, our cat loved it, too! The Mermaids were very responsive when we needed them, which was especially appreciated. We can't wait to go back.Did you find this review helpful? We were looking for something different for a few relaxing days and were not disappointed. We did not miss oceanfront views as we enjoyed the rise and fall of the tidal creek, the sounds of the oysters clacking and watching the heron that arrived every evening to catch fish in front of the cottage's dock. An added bonus was seeing our lab mix get to swim for the first time. The cottage is very comfortable; we loved the bedroom with its view of the creek. Mermaid Cottages thought of everything. They provided items that we normally do not find in rentals and were very responsive when called. They do not forget about your pets either. There are dog bowls, treats and tags that you can use in case your pet decides to go out on its own to explore the island. Very professional and refreshing. We loved this cottage so much! Pictures could never show how serene the outdoor space is there, or how big the dock actually is. The location is perfect for accessing the rest of the island and then retreating "home" each day. We had bikes (and kayaks!) delivered and never used the car during the whole week we were there! Local favorites were of course the seaside sisters, and the sundae cafe. AJ's too for seafood. But mostly we enjoyed making big breakfasts in the little kitchen and even grilled out one night. the place was the cutest little cottage and was so homey. i loved the little touches for pets if you bring one. the only problem was those darn fiddler crabs...they were everywhere. all in all, if you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing trip away from tourist on the beach, then is this the perfect little get-a-way.Did you find this review helpful? We had a WONDERFUL time at Fiddler on the Creek! It was exactly what we needed for our honeymoon as we needed some R&R. A fabulous stay on Tybee! The staff at Mermaid Cottages could not have been more helpful! I even got a call from a staff member when there was a tornado warning, wanting to be sure that I was aware of the bad weather. Wonderful quiet and serene. Highly recommended.
