We know privacy is important to many of our guests and we totally understand that sharing the house with us the owners might be a concern. But we have taken many steps to ensure you can have the amount of privacy you desire. Please take a look at the review from a recent guest who had some concerns and ho we were able to meet and exceed their needs.
The Military Couple From Savannah: We are a military couple living in Savannah, GA missing our roots in Pittsburgh, PA and we were looking
to go on a vacation for a week before my husband had to leave for a few months. The vacation was last
minute because of how the military works. We got online and were looking for vacation rentals for the
Smoky Mountains. Three of our Main needs that we wanted were 1.) Privacy 2.) Quiet 3.) Access. Oh and pet accommodating. (our dog Agnes is our only family member) We are hikers, rafters and just up to anything. Callie, Dave, Daniel and their dog Midgie were all very accommodating of our needs.
We were extremely hesitant to go with a rental that we were going to be sharing the space with the
owners. We are constantly around people with our jobs and need some time to get away and get back to
the Mountains! So we were pleasantly surprised with the Privacy that was given to us in the lower level of the house.
Access: On top of privacy and needing a quiet peace of mind place we wanted a location that was not too far
away from attractions or different parks. RiverDance is located just a couple of miles from Hot Springs
with is a quaint little town. It has a few restaurants and the Appalachian trail runs right through it. There
were a large amount of trails that were right around the area. The more you explore the more you find.
Asheville is only about 35 minutes from RiverDance and there is so much to do there if you are not all
about hiking 24/7. Plus there are many little towns located within the mountains that you can stumble
upon while you are out. All and All I will come back to RiverDance because of the Great people that run it
and the location. Callie and her family were so welcoming and willing to help us out with anything that we
needed. This family is so pleasant and aware of your privacy it is a great combination.

Mountain Vacation with At-Home Feel
Mountain Vacation with At-Home Feel
I was looking for a vacation rental from which my son and I could explore the Smoky Mountains. Because he's autistic, it was important to find a home where he would be comfortable. Within 10 minutes of our arrival, he was sprawled on the couch like he'd lived there his whole life. If you seek a party pad with a lot of nightlife, this ain't it. But if you seek a peaceful mountain home from which to base your adventures and feel as if you're part owner, you owe it to yourself and your companions to investigate RiverDance. Mountain views from nearly every window, a cliff-top view of the river far below, privacy when you want it and a family atmosphere when you don't. Funny thing about the river - while RiverDance is perched 300ft. above, the canyon's shape carries the sound of rippling water through your window. Weather was too chilly for us to enjoy the deck and Carolina Porch (early April), but both are extremely inviting and I'm sure much time could be spent there from late spring into late fall. While Bear River Lodge is considered a residential development, on the 1/2-mile-long drive up the mountain you only pass a few other homes. I heartily recommend this vacation rental to: 1. Those who wish to explore backcountry adventures like hiking, paddling, fishing, bicycling, sight-seeing, etc. We hiked on the Appalachian Trail, visited Smoky Mtns. National Park, climbed Mt. Mitchell, NC (highest peak east of the Mississippi) and Clingman's Dome (2nd highest peak). 2. Couples/Families who wish to divide and conquer - one element into the woods/streams/mountains to play, while the other hunts for antiques or enjoys the cultural diversity of Asheville, just 30 minutes away. 3. Those who take a vacation for relaxation. A lot of books could be read on/near the porch/deck/fireplace, etc. RiverDance is not a vacation rental slapped together as an investment opportunity. This is a beautiful, well-designed home built for the long haul by a wonderful couple who enjoy sharing their home with those who cherish mountain life as much as they do. We will return and I've already recommended a stay at RiverDance to several close friends and family members. BTW - I've rented vacation homes in three other locales throughout the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Hand's down, RiverDance was the most enjoyable and most memorable. Happy Trails!

Owner response: We thoroughly enjoyed having Dennis and Tucker stay with us. RiverDance is very adaptable, whether you want one, two or three bedrooms. Whether you would like us to act as your on-site concierge to help connect you with all the activities our little piece of the mountains provides. We are handicapped accessible and offer either a completely private vacation experience or, if you desire, interractions with other guests, the owners and the house puppy.
Truly a "Treasure"!
Truly a "Treasure"!
Staying at RiverDance for the first time is like finding “buried treasure” in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, and once you have been there, you want to go back again and again. The view from the porches overlooking the mountains, canyon, and river are truly spectacular and RiverDance has the rockers, over-stuffed chairs, and porch swing to help you experience its sunrises, sunsets, and changing cloud patterns. The two suites – Tree Tops and River Rock – are spacious, clean and tastefully decorated with countless details to provide a warm and relaxing atmosphere, at a modest price that is unbelievable for the quality. The fact that there are only two suites insures that guests are NOT lost in the crowd as in larger B&B’s, and yet, you can be completely private and alone if you prefer. What makes RiverDance stand out however are the warm, relaxed and fun personalities of its owners. Whatever you want, or whatever you need, is their priority while you stay with them and their genuine desire is to make your experience at RiverDance the best it can be. They are well informed about the best restaurants, hiking trails, area recreation, and driving directions and readily share their knowledge, maps, and pamphlets when asked. It is a wonderful, warm place to get away from the busyness of jobs and schedules, to be refreshed and renewed – whether by hiking, fishing, zip lining, rafting, or just enjoying the views from the hot tub or the wrap-around porch with its giant fireplace.

We just spent the most relaxing weekend we've had in some time at River Dance! Dave and Callie have created an incredible Bed & Breakfast with an amazing view! It is so easy to relax as you sit on one of the beautiful porches and admire the view, sit beside the outdoor fireplace and become mesmerized in the flames, soak in the hot tub while looking out over the mountains, rock in one of the rocking chairs while listening to the sounds of nature and the babbling stream below, or simply resting in your room looking out the windows at the incredible scenic view. Callie and Dave frequently checked to make sure we had everything we needed, offered their kitchen and grill for our use, and made great recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area. It was a great place to get away from the business of our everyday lives and still have easy access to Hot Springs, hiking trails and rafting. We can't wait to go back again! Mark & Carla Charlotte

Restful Family Time
Restful Family Time
When I made reservations for a brief family trip to the NC mountains to ensure we had some solid family time before taking our eldest child to West Point to begin her college and Army journey, I had no idea that we would return home with the sense that we had been personal guests of the Wellendorfs. Their hospitality was so natural and their home so thoughtfully appointed to accommodate multiple guests, including our family of five, we felt completely at ease. Whether being lulled to sleep in our loft suite by the sounds of the river far below, watching the fog gradually lift over the mountains while sipping hot coffee in the morning, or cooking after a long day of adventure, sharing food and conversation with them around their dining room table, it was a vacation to remember. Some features of the home and aspects of the visit that made it particularly wonderful for our family included the private space with two bedrooms and sitting room with TV and movies (perfect for downtime for our teenagers); the magnificent location overlooking the river and in a neighborhood with enough roads and trails to make out-the-door walks and runs possible; the close proximity to our rafting and zip-lining activities; the use of the washer and dryer; the simple but tasty pastries, cereals, breads, yogurt, fruits, berries, and coffee each morning – timed with consideration for each guest’s planned activities; and , most wonderfully, the company and companionship of Callie and Dave. We hope to return again someday.

Breathtaking, Ultimate Hospitality
Breathtaking, Ultimate Hospitality
Within minutes of meeting the owners, we felt completely at home. Their Southern Hospitality complemented by a touch of Northern Seasoning made this a perfect selection for our 4 day visit. The views from the house are breathtaking. Photos cannot capture the spell of the mountains and the river below. Mesmerizing tranquility. The location is perfect as a base for exploring the Marshal - Asheville area. The rooms and living spaces are immaculate, amenities plentiful and thoughtfully presented. Breakfast had too many delicious offerings. Calli and Dave were the ultimate gracious hosts. We stayed in the lower level with the most direct access to the parking area. Although the ceilings are not 'lofty' as in the upper levels, it felt very comfy. We did not feel like we were intruding. We had our own home away from home. We look forward to our next visit and will not stay anywhere else. We had avoided B&B's after an unfortunate experience in Europe. RiverDance and the Wellendorfs have proven that private home stays can be a delightful experience with beautiful, peaceful surroundings presented by welcoming, accommodating, gracious hosts.

We loved our stay at Riverdance! Not a typical bed and breakfast since you have some private living space to hang out in. The common areas are wonderful and the view is incredible! We slept with the windows open and the sounds of the Laurel River lulled you to sleep. It is in a great location. We were just 40 minutes from Asheville and the drive down was so pretty. Hot Springs was not that exciting until Callie and Dave (the owners) started telling us about the history of the area. Once you learn a little about Hot Springs you get drawn back into time and into the area. VERY interesting history. Blue Ridge Parkway is close by. Such a pretty area to pack a picnic lunch and just drive around. We left feeling like we had made lifetime friends and can't wait to go back. The review wouldn't be complete without giving a shout out to Midge (their dog). She added to the enjoyment!

WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY
WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY
When we arrived to RiverDance we were so excited by the great location, beautiful views, and the incredible interior of the home. Dave abd Callie made us feel welcome the moment we got there and by the time we left I felt like I was saying goodbye to long lost friends! We stayed on the downstairs level which was very cozy, clean and comfortable for the four of us. It was also very private which was nice. The girls loved the hot tub and that must have been the highlight of their stay. We also really enjoyed moring strolls down by the river. We highly recommend RiverDance and hope to return ourselves for another visit!

River Dance is AWESOME! We loved the views. The property itself is at the top of a residential neighborhood, but you really feel like you are in the mountains. The house is magnificent and the rooms are immaculate, private, spacious and very comfortable with all conveniences of home if only your home was in such a magnificent location. The owners, Dave and Callie are very accommodating, providing perfect directions and helpful information and suggestions for exploring the towns and trails in western North Carolina. The location is close to restaurants and shopping as well as downtown Asheville and the local attractions. Callie is wonderful to work with and makes you feel so welcome. The hosts even provided a basket filled with yummy snacks to enjoy while there. From making the reservations to checking out, everything went smoothly. They were extremely prompt and thorough in all their communications and were wonderful "hosts" - I wish a typical hotel had half their thoughtfulness and attention to detail! We were impressed with the care and attention that Dave and Callie had taken to see that we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. We felt pampered and welcomed, and I do not hesitate to recommend their accommodations to everyone. Thank you, Callie for everything.
