*Rated one of the "50 Greatest Places of a Lifetime" by National Geographic, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a paddling distance away from the front doorstep of our home.*
*Nestled among white birch and pine trees, this renovated cabin sits on over an acre of land with 200 feet of lake shore. Extremely low motorboat traffic and the nicely wooded setting provides seclusion and privacy unlike anywhere else!*
*In order to preserve the serenity and pristine nature of the boundary waters, use of snowmobiles and jet-skis while at our home is prohibited.*
When you walk in the front door, you will immediately be taken by the casual elegance throughout the home. The main level of the home features a screened in front porch complete with a sitting area for four as well as a dining area for four, perfect for taking in a peaceful morning breakfast. One of our favorite things to do right away in the morning is to grab a cup of coffee and head right out the the porch to listen to birds chirping and enjoy the beautifully landscaped yard surrounded by tall pines. In the summertime, most of our afternoon and evening meals are eaten on the lakeside deck which expands the length of the home and wraps around the sides. This deck includes a picnic table for six, a round table for six with an umbrella, a tete-a-tete chair, a gas grill and a charcoal grill. The deck is a perfect place for a game of bean-bags or mini ping-pong(both included) or just a great place to watch the evening sunset.
The main level of the cabin features an open floor plan with tasteful north woods decor, vaulted ceilings, knotty-pine, custom log furniture, hardwood floors, two master bedrooms, full bathroom, the main kitchen, dining room and living room. Each of the master bedrooms is well appointed with either a queen-sized or full-sized bed, luxurious high thread-count sheets, comfortable mattresses, bedding and ceiling fans. The well-stocked modern chef's kitchen has a large center island with three bar stools, garbage disposal, dishwasher, great pans and all of the utensils, appliances and dishware that you would hope for and expect. The lakeside living room is well-appointed with high end leather furniture (a double chez U-shaped couch and two huge leather chairs with ottomans), a custom upholstered bench by the window and a game table with antler chandelier perfect for an afternoon puzzle. The entertainment center has a television with satellite cable, DVD player, CD player, VHS player and over 50 VHS tapes and DVD's for you to enjoy. A gorgeous antler chandelier hangs above the formal log dining table which will more than comfortably seat all those in your party.
Downstairs you will find rooms filled with sunlight! The walk-out lower level has two sliding doors which lead directly to the pathway down to the lake. You will find another fully-stocked kitchen, 2 more bedrooms, a cozy family room, another full bath, laundry room and a wonderful and cozy cedar-lined sauna. The family room overlooks the lake and includes a sleeper sofa, a table for four, wireless internet (bring your laptop), a log desk and a Wii console complete with Wii games. The first of the bedrooms has a queen bed, two closets, a television with satellite cable and a sliding door. The other lower level bedroom has a queen-sized bed, look-out windows, a modern sink and two closets. All of the linens on the hand-made log beds are extremely high-quality and comfortable throughout the property. Rest assured that much effort has gone into ensuring that each of the bedrooms is special in its own way!
A short walk down the landscaped pathway with gradual, wide steps takes you to the lake shore. Our private dock is perfect for tying up your motorized watercraft that you bring or for one that you rent from the local lodge. If you decide not to bring your boat or to rent one, we have included the use of our Winonah canoe, fishing kayak for one and our kayak for two at no additional charge. The public boat access is just down the road from our home but is not visible from our property.
White Iron is 3,429 acres and is part of a chain of lakes that include Garden Lake, Farm Lake and South Farm Lake, all of which are motorized lakes. The White Iron Chain of Lakes is a locals' favorite with a good population of Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Bluegill and Black Crappie providing great fishing for anglers of all ages! White Iron Lake is in Ecological Lake Class 7, which consists of 41 lakes in northeast Minnesota that are very large, have irregular shoreline shapes, and have very soft (unmineralized) water.The Kawishiwi and Bear Island rivers flow through it and the inlets make for popular fishing spots. If you want to explore the non-motorized lakes of the Boundary Waters(BWCA), our chain of lakes has direct access as well!

Why the Owner Chose ElyThe boundary waters is a place that we have visited with our families for years. When it came time to buy a lake home, Ely was the first place that we thought of. After years of camping in Ely's north woods, we loved the idea of being able to enjoy the serenity of the boundary waters while still having the comforts of the well-appointed cabin to return to after a long day of fishing. We love that we are close enough to town that a run to the grocery store is not a burden, while also being far enough away that you can fully retreat.
The Unique Benefits at this CabinWe looked at several lake homes and fell in love with this home immediately. The features that we most appreciate are the size of the lake, that it is part of a four lake chain with access to the boundary waters and that there are a few different options for dining which we can boat to. Although it is close to town, and is a motorized lake, the serenity that you experience is unlike any other place that we have visited. It is common to sit on the deck which overlooks the lake and not be able to see or hear anyone else.

We spent a week at this incredible lakeside cabin! So peaceful, so beautiful! We couldn't have been happier with our choice of this cabin. Very clean, close enough to town to enjoy a meal out, yet very private! We fell in love with Ely & will return to this home!!!

I have stayed at this gorgeous Ely cabin several times and fall in love each time. This is my dream lake home. The first time I drove up the drive, my breath was taken away by the story book, log cabin. with the grand screen porch. I appreciated all the modern amenities inside and how clean everything was. Despite the modern amenities, it still has that cozy, cabin look and feel. I was amazed at how far back into the Boundary Waters I was able to go by boat. For anyone who enjoys star gazing, this is the perfect location, as the cabin is deep enough into the woods to avoid any disturbing lights. After a delicious cook out on the grill, I found my self laying back on the picnic table bench and taking in the stars. It was so beautiful, it seemed almost surreal. I can't imagine staying any where else in the Boundary Waters. I would highly recommend visiting this beautiful cabin--you won't be disappointed.

Last summer I spent a weekend at this cabin and had a fabulous time. The size and layout of the cabin are great - I would recommend it to friends and or family. The cabin has a lot of character and feels like a home away from home - with all the amenities. The view of the lake from the deck was wonderful - perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and a good book. There are four large bedrooms in the main cabin - perfect for couples or kids. There is also a second bunk house that would be a great getaway for kids that sleeps about 5. Overall we had a wonderful experience with this cabin. It's a great distance from the cities and once you get there - the cabin has all the charm you need to have a great vacation. It's also pretty close to town - if you need supplies or want to do some shopping.

We had the most amazing stay at this Cabin! The cabin is more like a house- it is so beautiful, comfortable, and has everything you need and more for a getaway! We went for a girls weekend- grilling, boating, relaxing inside and outside. It was the perfect weekend at the perfect cabin! Thank you for the wonderful time- and I would recommend this place to all my friends and family.
