At the water's edge, this cottage is the perfect romantic getaway yet ideal for a family. Part of a locally historic property situated on five acres with over 500' of private clam-shell beach, it enjoys wonderful views of Deer Harbor and the distant Olympic Mountains to the south.
Comfortable furnishings and antiques center on the stone fireplace, which reaches to the vaulted and beamed ceiling. Wood floors and sash windows enhance the sophisticated country ambiance of this 1910 cottage.
The sectional sofa is the perfect spot to relax and take in a movie on the 32" LCD HDTV/DVD or listen to your favorite CD's and just enjoy the water view.
Pick up a good book from the selection provided, put your feet up on the large ottoman, wrap that hand-made throw around you and leave the day-to-day behind in the warmth of a roaring fire in the fireplace.
The kitchen is fully equipped including a Jenn-Air cooktop and grill. An antique table and chairs afford a view of the harbor. Country style tableware and linens are provided.
French doors lead to the large, well furnished deck overlooking the water. Your private hot tub invites you to step in and just unwind.
The bedroom features a queen sized Eurodown bed. French doors lead to a private seating area on the deck just steps from the beach. Off the living room, an alcove with twin trundle beds affords additional sleeping accommodations.
An oversized, vintage clawfooted tub with sunburst shower under a vaulted ceiling highlights the large, period bath. You'll find a pedestal sink, dressing table and separate water closet. All the amenities are there including hand-made lavender toiletries, lush, thick towels, magnifying mirror, hair dryer and iron and ironing board.
Each day firewood and other supplies are replenished, trash removed, hot tub serviced, and for stays longer than four days, your sheets are changed and used towels replaced after each three-day period. Housekeeping service is available for an hourly rate.
Beyond your cottage, you'll find much to enjoy. Several acres of gardens and woodland and over 500 feet of private clam shell beach can be explored. Originally homesteaded in 1857, much of the early plantings are still here to enjoy.
Old lilacs, roses, glorious wisteria, apple and Horse Chestnut trees, the weeping willow by the old pond mix with newer gardens, creating private oases or an expanse of lawn leading to the water's edge.
Our kitchen garden is here for you. Totally organic, it offers a surprising selection of seasonal heirloom and familiar vegetables and fruit for your culinary pleasure. In addition, in season you can pick wild blackberries, apples, pears and plumes, or harvest oysters and clams from our private beach.
Whale watching and kayaking tours, sailing charters, rental boats and bicycles, even a bird sanctuary are located within walking distance of the Cottage as is a restaurant, convenience market and snack bar.
Hike or go horseback riding in the beautiful 1500 acre Turtleback Mountain Preserve located two miles from the cottage with its grasslands, wildflowers and magnificent Garry Oaks. The views are incredible.
Farther afield explore the pristine forests of Moran State Park with its many hiking and biking trails as well as Mount Constitution, which offers what many consider the most magnificent water views in North America. The kids will love swimming or paddle boating at Cascade Lake.
Other favorites of the younger set are collecting shells and driftwood from our beach or playing with our dogs and cats and visiting our neighbors' donkeys. Two special places for them are The Funhouse for hands-on experiences with science, technology, art and music including a recording studio, and the competition level skate park.
The villages on Orcas and the many artists' studios and galleries offer great opportunities for exploration as well.
Don't forget that one of the best things you can do is absolutely nothing! Just sit back and enjoy the beautiful views from either your deck or the adirondack chairs on the lawn overlooking the harbor.
The food on Orcas Island is a special treat! You'll find local produce, meats and seafood at the fine restaurants and markets. Try Judd Cove Oysters or Coffelt Farm lamb, a salad of organic greens or a dessert with wild blackberries. You won't want to miss the Farmer's Market held every Saturday from May through October.
