Location: Polson, Flathead Lake, Montana, USA (8 miles from Polson; 65 miles to Missoula/Kalispell)

Accommodations:  House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)

The Swan Family Home is Flathead Lake-front property, perched above the water in a woodsy, private, and quiet setting. Watch the kids from the many decks as they swim from the private, gravel beach. Listen to the circling osprey and the waves on the shore. Enjoy campfires and "smores" on the beach with the kids.

Influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright, the home was designed and built by an artist-engineer and includes a 24-foot by 22-foot studio room which provides an additional living area. The interior has unique, handcrafted features: stone fireplace, curving spiral stair, and picture windows to follow the changing light. Two of the bedrooms have their own decks.

The unique character and charm does not mean you have to suffer. The year-round home is comfortable with central heat and modern appliances: Full kitchen with double oven, 5-burner electric range, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, all cooking and eating utensils, and bed linens furnished. There is a two-car garage, and a shed with wood for that morning fire with your coffee.

Karen, Mary, Ken and I look forward to our 2006 season with the additions and improvements that follow: We have updated in response to our guests' suggestions: DSL wireless should be up and running for our first summer guests. We upgraded the cooktop to the smooth style (5 burners), installed new carpeting in the lower-level bedroom, changed out the double beds for queens and replaced sheets with 600 count cotton. Future improvements in no particular order: window treatments in the "big room" and a larger south deck for more seating near the barbeque. I already have the parts for overhauling the bbq with new burners just as soon as the weather warms. Thanks to all of our guests for helping us to improve the experience for those that follow. We look forward to hearing from you all. If you are considering staying with us this year, please feel free to call for the latest. Mac Swan

    • Regarding your rental, we just treated it like it was our own....and had a tough time giving up the "adoption!" You probably don't hear this from everyone but I was awed by the woodworking details, the numerous homemade built-ins and the obvious craftsmanship that went into the home's construction. (Don't tell Mary I told you that, she thinks I'm nuts)! The soul of its builders and family still remains and we feel fortunate to have been able to share this special place! I am attaching a photo of your "pet" deer which apparently love eating from your flower beds, shrubs and trees! They also enjoy the property!! Scott

We are delighted to announce to our guests that the Swan Family Home has moved into its permanent ownership: Mary Swan and her son Ken Rand, along with Mac and Karen Swan are committed to maintaining the unique atmosphere and quietude that we have enjoyed on the lake. Since Ken's grandparents acquired the property in 1952 until now, Cat Bay has been a special retreat from the cares, concerns, and worldly cares of the work-a-day world. We are delighted to be blessed with the opportunity to share this special place with others. Each season just like each guest brings experiences memorable and new. Please book early.
