The VonHottenstein Homestead is on a 26 acre farm that has been in our family since our immigrants bought the land in 1770. After a recent renovation and modernization while maintaining our rich historical roots, we now invite our guests to enjoy this beautiful farmhouse and included spacious lawns. You can sit on the front porch and watch the world go by and the farmers working their fields, or you can enjoy the quietness of the back yard, the orchard, gardens and fields. Best of all, you have the freedom and spaciousness of your “home” away from home. There are many Amish farms in the neighborhood, and Amish Tourist areas are close by. If you are attending a meeting or convention nearby, bring the family and just relax and spend time together. If you are relocating and want a "home" instead of hotel room or apartment until you find your own home, call or email us for special rates. Our homestead is also an excellent place for your Small Group Retreat or Ladies Get-Away with a large meeting room and smaller breakaway rooms.

The kitchen is equipped with a toaster, coffee maker, tea maker and blender. The cupboards and refrigerator are stocked with breakfast items such as milk, OJ, coffee, cereal, bread, salt, pepper, sugar, creamer, etc.-enough to get you started. An iron and ironing board are also available. There are many great restaurants in the area if you don't want to cook, or you can have pizza delivered.

Bedroom #1 has a queen bed, bedroom #2 has a double bed and bedroom #3 has 2 twin beds. We also have 2 single mattresses, a full size Futon sofa/bed in the den, and a queen air mattress if you need more sleeping space.

We will meet you upon arrival with the keys and information on the area; and can answer any questions you may have. We look forward to sharing our heritage with you and your family and making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

Why the Owner Chose Lancaster

The property has been handed down for seven generations since the immigrant bought it in 1770. We are privileged to care for the land and pass it on to our children. The farm is in the Lancaster County Farmland Preserve, so it will forever be a farm to be enjoyed by all who visit.
Mother and Dad enjoyed sharing their home with guests, and in remembrance of them, we want to continue to make this a place where all feel welcome and at home during their stay.

Owner's Map of Lancaster

Our children and grandchildren loved to visit great grandma and great grandpa, run in the big yard, help in the garden and pick apples n the orchard. After an extensive renovation, we are happy to share the farmhouse with other families. Joe restores antique European Motorcycles, and Joyce is a Professional Travel Consultant in addition to doing the bookkeeping, caring for the farm and farmhouse , and together we escort small group tours to Europe. We especially enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren, as well as hiking and reading in our spare time.

Comfortable Farmhouse, Large Yard, Orchard, Sleeps 6-10!
5/5

Felt like Home!

We stayed in the farmhouse for a week and it was very comfortable and clean. All the amenities we needed were there - including toys, a pack & play and highchair for our young boys. The farmhouse is close to all the area attractions. Our stay was very relaxing and we hated to leave when the week was up.

Owner response:Our goal is to provide a comfortable and relaxing home away from home for families.

The house was like walking back in time 30 years ago! At first I was unclear about my feeling of the over all appearence of this home. After a good nights rest. I woke to find myself spellbound by this home. It was as if "time had stop!" I fell in love with the charm and warmth of the house. I noticed a picture of an eldery woman sitting at a sewing machine. Hanging in the kitchen. Right away, I knew this had to be her home. I honestly had a feeling of welcoming in "her home." In no time at all, the daily stress of the 21st century disapeared. If for a weekend or a month. Anyone wanting to excape the reality of the real world. This is the perfect place! HONESTLY: the only reason I did not rate this house as a 5 star (EXCELLENT) Was the very large open window in the Dinning area of the house. With the home being so close to the road. It would have allowed for more privacy from the outside world at night. It left me feeling a bit like a "fish in a bowl." The lace panels around the back door was beautiful. You might try something like that in the Dinning area. For anyone that reads this post. Simply go into your visit with an open mind and heart. After a day or so, you will understand for yourself. How there is something about this farmhouse. It opens it's self up. Welcomes you to sit, rest, and enjoy the romanice it has to offer! Thank you for opening your family home up to my family! The saddest part of our visit was when it was time to leave. -asn

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful farmhouse with us. It has been a truly restful vacation. The location is perfect. The Landisview Market is truly a place where you can get anything. The homemade soups were excellent for cool nights(the steaks were excellent as well.) You were very thoughtful with the welcoming staples so we didn't have to go straight out for supplies. The farmhouse has all the modern conveniences without losing the old charm. Watching the equipment work the farms was not only entertaining, but educational as well. They sure have it down to a science. We will definitely be back for another vacation. We will also spread the word that this is the place to stay. Thank you both so much for sharing this farmhouse and keeping it "as is" for future generations to enjoy.

This was a perfect vacation home for a family with 2 toddlers, a baby & grandparents. Not only is the house charming, clean & well-maintained, but loaded with all the necessities-including toys, books, toddler bed, & high chairs! We were also happy to see the stocked kitchen, plentiful linens & towels-not to mention the perfect location in the center of it all. We never traveled more than 20 min. to see every Amish location & the farm view from every window was amazing! Thank you for everything-we will be back again, next time in the fall!
