The Owners are 100% respectful, full of integrity, and so helpful/supportive in also providing suggestions and written information on area and places to go etc. The home is exactly as portrayed, and the ambiance and decor beautiful and filled with wonderful art pieces/pictures. I rented the home completely for my own retreat and it was well worth it! Before deciding I had researched a lot of homes also in Santa Fe area. I am so happy I chose, " Tierra Madre" The views of the mountains and endless sky. I loved the home and area so much and by a miracle I was able to stay one more night, I would have stayed longer....however the next guests were due to arrive. It's no wonder, "Tierre Madre" is booked so far in advance! I will return as soon as I can and....as soon as I can book myself and this time some of my friends won't take no for an answer as they too want to come and enjoy the home. Oh yes the home is equipped with everything you need and also a closet of board games etc..for friends and families, plenty of great books too, it's hard once at Tierre Madre to want to go out and enjoy the sites, hikes as it's truly beautiful and..relaxing! Thank you to the Owners!

This spacious, gracious and beautiful home is one you will wish was your own. The interior is well designed for comfort and practicality. All linens and beds were high quality. There are no close neighbors such as on a city street, yet it is only a few minutes drive to the city center. Everything was clean and functional. Everything you could wish is already here, just pack your clothes and toiletries and enjoy the beautiful southwest flavor.

We came to Taos, looking for a place to homebase for snowshoeing. Didn't know exactly where the home was until we got there, but it was so convenient to both the Taos Ski Vally and Red River (and Taos itself) that we would come back. The home is great, a must rent. Hot tub was great, after long snowshoe hikes!

Tierra Madre was absolutely fabulous and exceeded our expectations! Every room is clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated with stunning views. The house is spacious and comes equipped with everything you would need...it was perfect for our group. We had a wonderful time ringing in the new year and definitely enjoyed watching the stars at night from the hot tub. It is secluded, but close to town and about 20 min. from the ski resort. I highly recommend Tierra Madre for anyone planning to visit Taos. You will not be let down!

My family and I just spent a wonderful Taos vacation at Tierra Madre. We loved the accommodations; the house is spacious, beautiful, and in a perfect location. Set high on the mesa north of Taos, from Tierra Madre’s patio you can look to the west past the Rio Grande Gorge to the mountains beyond, and its large, expansive living room windows look directly out to the east onto Taos Mountain. Beautiful views in all directions. At night, the patio is a perfect spot to sit and watch the night sky, and the twinkling lights of Taos in the valley below; incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Tierra Madre is just five minutes away by car from Taos’s main shopping districts, the Plaza and Bent Street, and even closer to the array of art and history museums along the Paseo del Pueblo Norte, the main thoroughfare leading into town. The Taos Pueblo is only minutes away to the southeast, and five miles to the east is the village of Arroyo Seco, with lots of fun shops and one of the best ice cream parlors ever, the Taos Cow. A daily mid-afternoon stop there quickly became a family favorite! Our vacation in Taos was enhanced tremendously by our stay at Tierra Madre. We look forward to returning.

We absolutely loved our stay at Tierra Madre. Everything we needed was provided for us. The house is in a great location - close to sightseeing, shops, grocery. The layout of the house is perfect and it feels so spacious with the high ceilings and back patio. Enjoyed the views, beautiful sunset and stars. We would definitely return. My only negative comment was that there were a lot of spiders, but no other bugs :) .

This rental was everything we could have asked for and more. The house and view was absolutely breathtaking and very close to Taos. The kitchen had everything you could imagine needing. Beds very very comfortable and the decor was amazing making it very homey and spacious. The hot tub was very clean and the sunsets were incredible as well. I would highly recommend this rental. I stayed with two other couples so there were six of us in total and we had more than enough room. The atmosphere could not have been more relaxing. Thanks so much!!!

Jim & Anne, We loved our stay at your home. The views are amazing. It was so nice to leave Taos and come to such a quiet retreat. We also appreciated all the little things like coffee if you didn't bring any, soap, spices etc. I'm a New Mexico native and was very home sick. This visit was the perfect cure. The smell of the sage and the rain. The warmth of an adobe home. We can't wait to come back.
Owner response:You are welcome . We love New Mexico and since we live overseas we miss the smell of the sage after a rain also.

I have stayed in lots of Hotels, B&B, and houses including several in Taos, but Tierra Madre is the first place that I felt at home. Tastefully decorated with items that were collected on the the owners travels around the world so there are interesting paintings, wood carvings, ceramics, and textiles from all corners of the World. Each bedroom has a unique feeling to them but they were all very comforting and relaxing. We spent every evening on the back patio watching the sunset over the vast BIA land behind the house, and the views of the mountain out the front window was breathtaking. I truly wish I owned this home so I could retire here.
Owner response:Thank you . It is always nice to have someone appreciate the care that we took in designing and furnishing the house to make guests feel at home.

Stayed for a week of spring break skiing with wife, two teenagers and two dogs. Wonderful and recommended. Outside of town in open space, but :15 minutes away from everything. Views from every window are spectacular, skiing at Taos is :25 minutes up the valley. Central living space which is very nice, good kitchen, clean, tasteful and comfortable. Owner responsive and house manager available when needed. Olguin's Firewood is just down the road, order a cord and kick back. Solid wifi signal, only caveat is this house and the whole town of Taos operate on satellite and large file downloads are very slow, but hey, you're not there to work.

I have rented houses, condos, and apartments all over Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States, and this is one of the nicest places I have ever rented. The pictures do not do it justice; the rooms all look better than the pictures, and the views from each of the rooms of the mountains or the plateau are stunning. It is just a few minutes north of town, so it is convenient to town, and an easy drive to the Taos Ski Valley. The house feels much larger than three bedrooms, and it is beautifully, and lovingly, decorated. I don't think you could do better than renting this house if you come to Taos.
Owner response:We strive to make Tierra madre feel like a home away from home vs. a vacation rental so we always love it when people let us know how much they enjoyed staying here.

This was a great rental place to stay at. The kitchen had several small appliances and plenty of pots/pans etc to cook with. All of the rooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable, and it was clean. It was also minutes from Taos, but out of the high traffic areas. We stayed with 6 adults and two kids and had plenty of space.

Tierra Madre is exceptional in every way. Being in the hospitality business ourselves makes us appreciate all the nuances of a well thought out and executed vacation rental. Every need for our stay not only was met, but graciously exceeded all our expectations. The proximity to world class fly fishing, gorgeous fall color and the eclectic culture of Taos and especially Arroyo Seco was stimulating as well. The Whatleys of Quiet Hill Ranch will be back many times over and encourage all who truly desire a quality stay to do so as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This home is absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. My husband and I, my daughter and her friend, and my son and his friend, plus two dogs all had plenty of room to relax and enjoy our vacation together. We loved the patio and hot tub at night. It was so relaxing after a long day of hiking! And the sunsets and the stars were spectacular! The large dining room table was perfect for family card games, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals at home. We used the barbeque grill as well. The home is situated close to the town, but far enough away to stay out of the high traffic area. We will definitely let our family and friends know about this wonderful rental home when they are heading that way, and we would definitely love to stay there again in the future. Everything was perfect!

If you are looking for a place with the best stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, a huge living area with ample seating for all your friends or family, beautiful vistas, and a very easy to cantact, involved and informative owner, this is the place for you. Of the many homes we have rented, both domestic and foreign, this was the best organized, cleanest, and most interestingly decorated one of all. The owner was even available by e-mail during our trip to respond to such questions as, where to shop for local furniture, where to take hikes, or even, "where did that cool peice of furniture in the living room come from?" He was wonderfully informative and easy to contact. We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends. It is located far enough out of the hustle and bustle of Taos to be peaceful and quiet, but near enough to visit all the wonderful shops and restaurants this great little town has to offer. The mountains are a beautiful backdrop out the front window and vast indian land with incredible sunsets make up the view out back. Sitting in the hot tub at the end of a long day of fishing, hiking, biking, or just shopping was a special treat. If your are planning a trip to northern New Mexico, we highly recommend this incredible place. You'll arive back home with warm memories and a desire to return soon to this great location

Tierra Madre is more than a rental property - it is a home. The gentle spirit of this house welcomed us and infused our week with a peacefulness that I didn't think possible. Anne and Jim have filled their home with artwork, books and green, growing plants - the photos can't do it justice, for every room is comfortably perfect. We all enjoyed napping on the wonderfully inviting sofas! The kitchen is fully stocked with china, glasses, silverware and fun appliances - don't miss the coffee machine under the island counter. Each bedroom is lovingly decorated with mementos of Anne and Jim's travels, too. Many of the wedding guests who passed through commented that the house is ideally situated for sunrise and sunset viewing - and the cross-ventilation is excellent. Of course, we enjoyed unwinding in the hot tub after rather hectic days - the inky silence, the sage and the stars above Taos provided the perfect nightcap. Do I have to leave? Specifically, though, we chose Tierra Madre because of our correspondence with Jim. Unlike several other property owners, Jim responded to our request for a post-wedding family get-together with a simple "no problem, just please don't leave dirty dishes in the sink!" answer. What a relief! His suggestion of Taos Out Back Pizza was helpful, too - after several days of "wedding food", we all enjoyed gathering for a casual dinner of pizza and beer. I could not have been more comfortable had I hosted the evening in my own home. Although we've spent most of our time involved with the wedding activities, we have had the opportunity to visit the Pueblo - and I highly encourage that trip. Not only did I appreciate the history of the Pueblo, but we also found it far more satisfying to purchase from artisans and craftsmen at the Pueblo - they're forthcoming about the personal attachment that they have for their work and their stories are marvelous! Would I recommend this property to a friend or relative? Only if they promise that I can come, too!

Tierra Madre is an excellent place to stay when in the Taos area. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this home. Some of the great touches include every kitchen appliance and utensil known to man, a`gas stove, a great and clean hot tub, a kiva fireplace, plenty of firewood, large spacious rooms, very comfortable beds and an outstanding view of the Kachina Peak mountain ranges The house was incredibly clean and it is private and yet very convenient to town and the Ski Valley. Another must see is the bridge over the Rio Grande gorge which is only few miles away.

Tierra Madre far exceeded our expectations! It was warm, clean, and welcoming; far nicer than the pictures imply. The best part about staying at Tierra Madre, however, was the little touches (such as free tea and firewood) that made this place feel like home. While it wasn't very visible from the road, its location on the junction between the main road to town and the road to the ski valley is ideal. I will definitely stay there again!

We sort of knew what to expect from our stay at this home after looking at all the great photos online when we made our reservation, but it was even more perfect than we thought. Gorgeous views in every direction, plenty of sleeping and living space for our family of 6 adults, and a well-stocked kitchen that ended up saving us a lot of money by allowing us to "eat in." There is an Albertson's a couple miles up the road so we just stocked up on breakfast and dinner items plus stuff to make sandwiches we could take out on the slopes in our ski jackets. The kitchen had every utensil and pan we could possibly need, plus a cabinet full of spices and other dry ingredients, so all we had to buy were the perishable items. There's even a charcoal grill outside so two of those meals were burgers and steaks! The hot tub was clean and relaxing, especially after a long day skiing on tired legs. Another cool thing about the house is its radiant heating system through the floors. The gorgeous Mexican tile is a normal room temperature when you get out of bed in the morning instead of freezing cold, like you'd expect! A coffee pot for morning coffee, roaring fire in the living room, satellite TV, puzzles and games, clean bed linens ... I can't imagine coming home to a hotel room when you could stay here for less money!! My husband and I are already talking about how much fun it would be to come back here with friends. We highly recommend it to any future guests.

Our stay at your "home" was delightful. Indeed it's a home rather than just a rental space. The setting is unique and i takes days to get ones orientation because the views from each window are spectacular and different. In your home one lives on the Mesa as well as in the mountains with the universe above. "Home" because not only is your house spacious and thoughtfully and artfully designed but you select delightful art and objects that represent your respect and care for the home as well as your guests. My wife and I have rented many houses and we would rate yours not only at the top of the list but in a class of its own- I have one important unanswered question. During one night I happened to open my eyes to enjoy the night sky that slowly travels by your large bedroom window. I was startled to see a meteorite travel across the sky and then burn up in a flash of fire. It was spectacular- But I have no idea what it meant

When we entered Tierra Madre, we were simply stunned by the views and the incredible design of this home. It didn't hurt that there was a double rainbow just outside the living room window! It is apparent that a great deal of time was spent planning everything about the house. From the orientation of the oversized windows to a gourmet equipped kitchen, it was all wonderful. Our week stay with four adults and an 8 year old was one that set the mark for our future vacation rentals. In fact, if it had been available, we would have returned two months later for a month long stay. Tierra Madre is also a great value with all the amenities anyone could need. Thanks to our owner/host for a memorable visit.

Staying at Tierra Madre was magical. We arrived to a view of a double rainbow spanning the mountain view which fills the living room window. The house is perfectly appointed with lots of things for cooking, plenty of (comfy) beds, and bedding and a sweet outdoor garden of daisies which my daughter adored playing in (I would guess there would not be daisies when it is snowing.) Tierra Madre seems to have been laid out to take great advantage of several views... we saw hot air balloons and gorgeous sunsets out of the dining room windows which are opposite the living room. The owners and caretaker were helpful when we needed them and absent when we wanted our space. We loved it so much we are looking at going again very soon and staying longer! I could say so many more wonderful things, but to be simple, you will enjoy staying at Tierra Madre.

We spent the entire month of Sept'07 at your lovely home and enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms, views, hot tub were all as advertised and more. We especially enjoyed the great location of this home which was just one mile from the Taos Ski valley highway and only 20 minutes to the Taos Ski valley village and lifts. We are avid hikers and found this location to be convenient to more than 20 great hikes in the area. We hope to revisit Tierra Madre this coming winter for some cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Your Tierra Madre home is beautiful and fully equipped with all possible amenities. The sunrises over the mountains and sunsets over the expanse to the west are magnificent. We found It is only a few minutes drive to Taos and convenient to Pueblos and the Taos Ski Resort. We had a great time and would like to visit again. Thanks, Linda, Mike & family

My friends and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect or picturesque place to stay. You have the feeling of seclusion although you are still very close to town and the ski valley. The house was clean and I was especially surprised at the wonderful bed linens, not to mention the hot tub is fantastic. I have never seen so many stars! I would definitely recommend this rental. We are making this a yearly trip. Thanks!
