We really enjoyed our stay in this house for our ski trip with our adult children and 7 year old grandson. The bedrooms were generously sized and had plenty of room for bags and ski/snowboarding equipment. The bathrooms were very clean and had absolutely no mildew, which is important to me. Counter space in the 2nd bathroom was good, the master bath was very large with jetted tub, separate shower and lots of counter space. Towels were super fluffy soft and the linens were comfortable and crisp. The kitchen really did have everything you could ask for, and of a high quality. The appliances were all full size and very clean. I'd love to call that kitchen my own. Having a laundry room with a washer and dryer helped us keep our clothes and gloves nice and dry for the next day. The floor heating kept the house nice and warm. The hot tub was sparkling clean. Rules of the house were very reasonable and for the benefit of all. The location was great for us with being 1 mile from the intersection to the ski-valley turn-off, close to the highway but far enough to have peace and quiet. Views were amazing. This was the perfect property for our short ski/snowboard trip and I will look for this listing next time we come to Taos! .....and if you have unexpected car trouble, like a battery that doesn't like the cold Taos nights, contact AC Towing, they are very nice people. You will find the in the phone book, conveniently located in the entry desk. Thank you for having a phonebook there, it's the little things that make the stay memorable. AWESOME HOUSE, HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

This Christmas family members traveled from Virginia, California, and Colorado to meet at Tierra Madre. We were delighted when we unlocked the door and stepped inside. The description of the home posted on VRBO was both glowing and absolutely accurate. A stunning place with incredible views! Wonderful open space layout. Three inviting sofas in the living room area gave everyone a comfy place to sit, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable and cozy. On Christmas Eve, we dined at The Love Apple, a very unique and charming restaurant. We suggest you check their menu online; you won’t be disappointed! That night we also spent some time walking the town plaza to see all the charming Christmas decorations. Enjoyed our snowboarding and cross country skiing experiences…followed by relaxing soaks in the hot tub! We also made time to visit Taos Pueblo, an amazing historic site, not to be missed. After a satisfying supper at 5 Star Burger, we began to pack-up but we’re already talking about when we might return to Tierra Madre again. It truly is a special place.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

We selected Tierra Madre largely because of the views from the house. Not only is the house beautiful but has outstanding views in all directions. I planned to paint outdoors at different locations around Taos, Abiquiu, and surrounding areas and if it was too cold or windy to paint from the house. We had wonderful weather and I ended up only painting outside the house, which blocked the wind, a couple of mornings. Wish we owned this home...everything about it from the furnishings, art, tile floors, architecture, etc. provide a warm and welcoming feeling with incredible views and easy access to all the restaurants and shopping in Taos. We loved it and look forward to staying there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We designed, built Tierra Madre with the guest's comfort and outstanding views in mind. Then we collected one of a kind items from our travels around the world to make the decor an interesting place to stay.

Walking into this beautiful home we immediately were in awe of the house and the beautiful views of mountains...to the East and to the West. Everything you need is there for you be it cooking utensils, spa comfort or just gazing at the New Mexico landscape. Only 4 miles from Taos with easy access to all surrounding sites makes this an ideal spot to get away and still be close to everything. Would recommend the tour from the visitors center to see the Pueblos, the Plaza and some of the older parts of the city. The 84 mile enchanted drive through the mountains is beautiful....especially when the leaves are changing. Many good restaurants to visit as well......enjoyed Grand Grille. The owners were extremely helpful and concerned with us having a good time. The property manager was also very attentive. All in all a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this property to those enjoying nature, the outdoors and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The house is comfortable, beautifully appointed and soooo relaxing.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The minute we stepped in the front door we felt at home in Taos. So many thoughtful touches it is too many to list. LOVED the courtyard and the hot tub! How lovely it was to come "home" everynight after long strenuous hikes and gaze at the millions of stars in the hottub on the beautiful back patio. The master suite was gorgeous along with the master bathroom! Kitchen was well stocked and very updated, loved the second sink. But mostly I think the views were the most amazing aspect of the property. We loved looking out the living room window up to Taos Ski Valley. Also the home boasts a wonderful location!!! Not too far from town (only about 1 and 1/2 miles) but far enough out to be secluded. We ballooned in the Rio Grande Gorge, hiked in Taos Ski Valley (including summiting Wheeler Peak), went to a local Oktoberfest, gallery hopped (met Ouray Meyers) and dined out (El Meze is amazing). Thanks for an amazing vacation spot sharing you beautiful home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Staying at Tierra Madre was perfect for us. What a great place to relax in style, cook gourmet meals, soak in the hot tub and cozy up to the fire on chilly evenings. It has classic Taos architecture with the charm and authentic feel of a real adobe home with tile floors and viga ceilings. A beautiful home with sufficient space for multiple couples, and a nice proximity to town or ski valley. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped and the free wireless broadband connection is handy for getting work and play done in the evenings. Everyone enjoyed the hot tub and grill on the large private flagstone patio. We have stayed at Tierra Madre several times over the years and we've come to count on the home consistently being clean and inviting I highly recommend Tierra Madre.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Many of our guests come back to stay at Tierra Madre over and over again. Thank you.

I highly recommend sitting quietly in the hot tub with the lights off star gazing, it was such a special time with so many stars in the dark skies vs what I can see from my home in the city. The house itself is well designed and has beautiful decor and nice furnishings. This home in the countryside between Taos and Taos ski valley, and is a short drive into town. It has extraordinary views west across open land and east toward the mountains. Sunsets and sunrises are glorious as is the quiet and peacefulness of the surroundings. Tierra Madre has 2 flagstone patios ,a large private one and an intimate one, a spacious kitchen/dining/living room area, with with wonderful views. We hope to return again as soon as possible.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for staying at Tierra Madre. We designed Tierra Madre to make the guests stay as comfortable as possible and to have the best views possible from the windows. We always love it when our design effort is appreciated.

We just stayed at your Taos home and I cannot describe how great it was. At other houses we have stayed at in the past, we just rented the house for a place to stay at night. With your home, I just wanted to stay there all day long and absorb the atmosphere. It was so relaxing and comfortable and the views! I could stand in the kitchen, the dining room, living room, the master bedroom, or back patio and be blown away with the unbelievable views. If I was a cat I would have curled up on the sofa, and purred. The house was perfect. I was also impressed that the house is wheel chair accessible. My mother has been in a wheel chair for years and it is often difficult to find a place she can be comfortable.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I love Tierra Madre!!! It is so nice and feels like our 2nd home in Taos that we could never afford to own. The views are incredible and the place is so clean and comfortable. We had friends stay with us so we had all the bedrooms full and every room is comfortable, well furnished and has great views. This is my 4th stay at Tierra Madre and I have to say this is not your normal sterile rental. Tierra Madre is well furnished and the kitchen is fully equipped. We have 2 small(8 and 9 years old)children and we are planning to come back here for many, many years to come.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just spent 3 delightful weeks in Tierra Madre. This is our 5th time in Taos but our first time in Tierra Madre and it certainly won't be our last. The house easily accommodated our party of four, with spacious bedrooms and large living/kitchen area. We had all the amenities one can want (including a blender for those much needed margaritas) and the decor, with items from around the world, really exemplified what an amazing, spiritual, and relaxing place Taos can be. We spent most night BBQ-ing on the secluded back patio watching the sunset or relaxing in the hot tub star gazing. This is definitely a special place in Taos. We are already planning to come back to Tierra Madre for ski season.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We look forward to your coming back.

The listing of this house is very accurate except the outside picture of the home. This picture is not the outside of this home. There is a neighborhood dog that kept hanging around and was able to get into the back patio of the home. It is not fully enclosed. Once this was blocked it continually walked the wall surrounding the area. Our dogs were very agitated because of this. There was a note left in the house upon arrival informing us of this dog's presence. I had to clean the glass on several of the windows and doors due to handprints. The mattress is very hard and the sheets should be replaced due to staining in one of the smaller bedrooms. Be aware of the hot tub; if the water is not clear and there are bubbles, you may be charged for a full cleaning.Owner response: At Tierra Madre we take our cleanliness and reviews seriously. Look at our 49 other reviews and you will agree they are all outstanding. We rarely have a problem with a tenant but this person was charged for damaging a lamp and abuse to the hot tub so the negative review may be a result of that. Again we do take our reviews seriously and have subsequently purchased a new mattress and sheets. As for the dog, s/he has not been seen at the house since this report. Although we are dog friendly it is impossible for us to control the neighborhood pets and since this was such a friendly dog we have heard that previous guests encouraged it's presence. We are sorry for any discomfort this guest may have experienced.

The Owners are 100% respectful, full of integrity, and so helpful/supportive in also providing suggestions and written information on area and places to go etc. The home is exactly as portrayed, and the ambiance and decor beautiful and filled with wonderful art pieces/pictures. I rented the home completely for my own retreat and it was well worth it! Before deciding I had researched a lot of homes also in Santa Fe area. I am so happy I chose, " Tierra Madre" The views of the mountains and endless sky. I loved the home and area so much and by a miracle I was able to stay one more night, I would have stayed longer....however the next guests were due to arrive. It's no wonder, "Tierre Madre" is booked so far in advance! I will return as soon as I can and....as soon as I can book myself and this time some of my friends won't take no for an answer as they too want to come and enjoy the home. Oh yes the home is equipped with everything you need and also a closet of board games etc..for friends and families, plenty of great books too, it's hard once at Tierre Madre to want to go out and enjoy the sites, hikes as it's truly beautiful and..relaxing! Thank you to the Owners!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This spacious, gracious and beautiful home is one you will wish was your own. The interior is well designed for comfort and practicality. All linens and beds were high quality. There are no close neighbors such as on a city street, yet it is only a few minutes drive to the city center. Everything was clean and functional. Everything you could wish is already here, just pack your clothes and toiletries and enjoy the beautiful southwest flavor.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family and I just spent a wonderful Taos vacation at Tierra Madre. We loved the accommodations; the house is spacious, beautiful, and in a perfect location. Set high on the mesa north of Taos, from Tierra Madre’s patio you can look to the west past the Rio Grande Gorge to the mountains beyond, and its large, expansive living room windows look directly out to the east onto Taos Mountain. Beautiful views in all directions. At night, the patio is a perfect spot to sit and watch the night sky, and the twinkling lights of Taos in the valley below; incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Tierra Madre is just five minutes away by car from Taos’s main shopping districts, the Plaza and Bent Street, and even closer to the array of art and history museums along the Paseo del Pueblo Norte, the main thoroughfare leading into town. The Taos Pueblo is only minutes away to the southeast, and five miles to the east is the village of Arroyo Seco, with lots of fun shops and one of the best ice cream parlors ever, the Taos Cow. A daily mid-afternoon stop there quickly became a family favorite! Our vacation in Taos was enhanced tremendously by our stay at Tierra Madre. We look forward to returning.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Jim & Anne, We loved our stay at your home. The views are amazing. It was so nice to leave Taos and come to such a quiet retreat. We also appreciated all the little things like coffee if you didn't bring any, soap, spices etc. I'm a New Mexico native and was very home sick. This visit was the perfect cure. The smell of the sage and the rain. The warmth of an adobe home. I have stayed in lots of Hotels, B&B, and houses including several in Taos, but Tierra Madre is the first place that I felt at home. Tastefully decorated with items that were collected on the the owners travels around the world so there are interesting paintings, wood carvings, ceramics, and textiles from all corners of the World. Each bedroom has a unique feeling to them but they were all very comforting and relaxing. We spent every evening on the back patio watching the sunset over the vast BIA land behind the house, and the views of the mountain out the front window was breathtaking. Stayed for a week of spring break skiing with wife, two teenagers and two dogs. Wonderful and recommended. Outside of town in open space, but :15 minutes away from everything. Views from every window are spectacular, skiing at Taos is :25 minutes up the valley. Central living space which is very nice, good kitchen, clean, tasteful and comfortable. Owner responsive and house manager available when needed. Olguin's Firewood is just down the road, order a cord and kick back. Solid wifi signal, only caveat is this house and the whole town of Taos operate on satellite and large file downloads are very slow, but hey, you're not there to work.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I have rented houses, condos, and apartments all over Europe, the Caribbean, and the United States, and this is one of the nicest places I have ever rented. The pictures do not do it justice; the rooms all look better than the pictures, and the views from each of the rooms of the mountains or the plateau are stunning. It is just a few minutes north of town, so it is convenient to town, and an easy drive to the Taos Ski Valley. The house feels much larger than three bedrooms, and it is beautifully, and lovingly, decorated. I don't think you could do better than renting this house if you come to Taos.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We strive to make Tierra madre feel like a home away from home vs. a vacation rental so we always love it when people let us know how much they enjoyed staying here.

Every need for our stay not only was met, but graciously exceeded all our expectations. This home is absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing time. My husband and I, my daughter and her friend, and my son and his friend, plus two dogs all had plenty of room to relax and enjoy our vacation together. We loved the patio and hot tub at night. It was so relaxing after a long day of hiking! And the sunsets and the stars were spectacular! The large dining room table was perfect for family card games, and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our meals at home. We used the barbeque grill as well. The home is situated close to the town, but far enough away to stay out of the high traffic area. We will definitely let our family and friends know about this wonderful rental home when they are heading that way, and we would definitely love to stay there again in the future. Everything was perfect!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

If you are looking for a place with the best stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, a huge living area with ample seating for all your friends or family, beautiful vistas, and a very easy to cantact, involved and informative owner, this is the place for you. Of the many homes we have rented, both domestic and foreign, this was the best organized, cleanest, and most interestingly decorated one of all. The owner was even available by e-mail during our trip to respond to such questions as, where to shop for local furniture, where to take hikes, or even, "where did that cool peice of furniture in the living room come from?" He was wonderfully informative and easy to contact. We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends. It is located far enough out of the hustle and bustle of Taos to be peaceful and quiet, but near enough to visit all the wonderful shops and restaurants this great little town has to offer. The mountains are a beautiful backdrop out the front window and vast indian land with incredible sunsets make up the view out back. Sitting in the hot tub at the end of a long day of fishing, hiking, biking, or just shopping was a special treat. If your are planning a trip to northern New Mexico, we highly recommend this incredible place. You'll arive back home with warm memories and a desire to return soon to this great locationRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

Tierra Madre is more than a rental property - it is a home. The gentle spirit of this house welcomed us and infused our week with a peacefulness that I didn't think possible. Anne and Jim have filled their home with artwork, books and green, growing plants - the photos can't do it justice, for every room is comfortably perfect. We all enjoyed napping on the wonderfully inviting sofas! The kitchen is fully stocked with china, glasses, silverware and fun appliances - don't miss the coffee machine under the island counter. Each bedroom is lovingly decorated with mementos of Anne and Jim's travels, too. Many of the wedding guests who passed through commented that the house is ideally situated for sunrise and sunset viewing - and the cross-ventilation is excellent. Of course, we enjoyed unwinding in the hot tub after rather hectic days - the inky silence, the sage and the stars above Taos provided the perfect nightcap. Do I have to leave? Specifically, though, we chose Tierra Madre because of our correspondence with Jim. Unlike several other property owners, Jim responded to our request for a post-wedding family get-together with a simple "no problem, just please don't leave dirty dishes in the sink!" answer. What a relief! His suggestion of Taos Out Back Pizza was helpful, too - after several days of "wedding food", we all enjoyed gathering for a casual dinner of pizza and beer. I could not have been more comfortable had I hosted the evening in my own home. Although we've spent most of our time involved with the wedding activities, we have had the opportunity to visit the Pueblo - and I highly encourage that trip. Not only did I appreciate the history of the Pueblo, but we also found it far more satisfying to purchase from artisans and craftsmen at the Pueblo - they're forthcoming about the personal attachment that they have for their work and their stories are marvelous! Would I recommend this property to a friend or relative? Only if they promise that I can come, too!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Very, very nice place. Very clean**, nice amenities, very convenient for access to Taos and Hiways. We will most definately be back. **The only thing I can comment on is the Hot Tub. The water was cloudy even though we only used it once and shocked it as requested in the hot tub instructions.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Tierra Madre is an excellent place to stay when in the Taos area. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this home. Some of the great touches include every kitchen appliance and utensil known to man, a`gas stove, a great and clean hot tub, a kiva fireplace, plenty of firewood, large spacious rooms, very comfortable beds and an outstanding view of the Kachina Peak mountain ranges The house was incredibly clean and it is private and yet very convenient to town and the Ski Valley. Another must see is the bridge over the Rio Grande gorge which is only few miles away.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

As lovely as these photographs are - they do not do justice to the majesty of the views afforded by this spectacular home. I have rented other homes in the Taos area and this was my favourite by far. It is convenient to town and the ski valley and is luxurious without being pretentious. Highly recommend!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My fiancee and I stayed at this property during a Taos vacation. The house was beautiful! Very spacious, clean, and comfortable. It felt like home away from home! We loved the easy access to the mountains and to town. I would recommend this property for a group...or a special couple's get away.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: It is a great house to stay in year round.

Tierra Madre far exceeded our expectations! It was warm, clean, and welcoming; far nicer than the pictures imply. The best part about staying at Tierra Madre, however, was the little touches (such as free tea and firewood) that made this place feel like home. While it wasn't very visible from the road, its location on the junction between the main road to town and the road to the ski valley is ideal. I will definitely stay there again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We sort of knew what to expect from our stay at this home after looking at all the great photos online when we made our reservation, but it was even more perfect than we thought. Gorgeous views in every direction, plenty of sleeping and living space for our family of 6 adults, and a well-stocked kitchen that ended up saving us a lot of money by allowing us to "eat in." There is an Albertson's a couple miles up the road so we just stocked up on breakfast and dinner items plus stuff to make sandwiches we could take out on the slopes in our ski jackets. The kitchen had every utensil and pan we could possibly need, plus a cabinet full of spices and other dry ingredients, so all we had to buy were the perishable items. There's even a charcoal grill outside so two of those meals were burgers and steaks! The hot tub was clean and relaxing, especially after a long day skiing on tired legs. Another cool thing about the house is its radiant heating system through the floors. The gorgeous Mexican tile is a normal room temperature when you get out of bed in the morning instead of freezing cold, like you'd expect! A coffee pot for morning coffee, roaring fire in the living room, satellite TV, puzzles and games, clean bed linens ... I can't imagine coming home to a hotel room when you could stay here for less money!! My husband and I are already talking about how much fun it would be to come back here with friends. We highly recommend it to any future guests.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

The home absolutely lived up to our expectations - beautiful, roomy, well-situated to take advantage of the many things to do in the Taos area, well-appointed kitchen, and warm, with the radiant heat from the flooring. We were very satisfied.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had the privilege of staying in your lovely home at the end of September. It was beautiful, peaceful and convenient. The hot tub under the stars in the evening, enjoying the cows as they traversed the fields, a thunderstorm for excitement. The house was clean, comfortable, airy and light. Thank you so much for making our visit to Taos a wonderful one!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The house was warm and wonderful and we will stay there again in the future. The kitchen is stocked with every imaginable cookware item one can think of. The dog loved it too. The cows next door were very entertaining and the hot tub was clean and private. It was nice to have so much room for just the two of us and the dog. Thanks again and we look forward to visiting again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We chose this home to celebrate a wedding anniversary in Taos and we were certainly not let down. The views of the mountains to the East and sunsets to the West are simply incredible. There are few places better to relax and refresh than northern New Mexico. This exceptionally clean, nicely appointed home absolutely completes the experience. Private, peaceful and very, very comfortable. Thank you for providing such a warm and and inviting oasis.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay at your "home" was delightful. Indeed it's a home rather than just a rental space. The setting is unique and i takes days to get ones orientation because the views from each window are spectacular and different. In your home one lives on the Mesa as well as in the mountains with the universe above. "Home" because not only is your house spacious and thoughtfully and artfully designed but you select delightful art and objects that represent your respect and care for the home as well as your guests. My wife and I have rented many houses and we would rate yours not only at the top of the list but in a class of its own- I have one important unanswered question. During one night I happened to open my eyes to enjoy the night sky that slowly travels by your large bedroom window. I was startled to see a meteorite travel across the sky and then burn up in a flash of fire. It was spectacular- But I have no idea what it meantDid you find this review helpful? When we entered Tierra Madre, we were simply stunned by the views and the incredible design of this home. It didn't hurt that there was a double rainbow just outside the living room window! It is apparent that a great deal of time was spent planning everything about the house. From the orientation of the oversized windows to a gourmet equipped kitchen, it was all wonderful. Our week stay with four adults and an 8 year old was one that set the mark for our future vacation rentals. In fact, if it had been available, we would have returned two months later for a month long stay. Tierra Madre is also a great value with all the amenities anyone could need. Thanks to our owner/host for a memorable visit.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Staying at Tierra Madre was magical. We arrived to a view of a double rainbow spanning the mountain view which fills the living room window. The house is perfectly appointed with lots of things for cooking, plenty of (comfy) beds, and bedding and a sweet outdoor garden of daisies which my daughter adored playing in (I would guess there would not be daisies when it is snowing.) Tierra Madre seems to have been laid out to take great advantage of several views... we saw hot air balloons and gorgeous sunsets out of the dining room windows which are opposite the living room. The owners and caretaker were helpful when we needed them and absent when we wanted our space. We loved it so much we are looking at going again very soon and staying longer! I could say so many more wonderful things, but to be simple, you will enjoy staying at Tierra Madre.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
