I cannot say enough to praise the Farmhouse. It is perfectly situated to see the redwoods - we took two spectacular hikes without moving our car, and there were others nearby we didn't even get to. Much of the rest of the park is within a few minutes drive. The elk herd really does come graze in the yard, just like the photos. This is an immaculately clean, comfortable, homelike vacation rental, ideal for a couple or a family with two or three older children. My husband and I spent our 25th anniversary there and couldn't have been more pleased. There are tenants downstairs, but we never heard them, and our only (rare) sightings of them were entirely positive. Nothing has been forgotten, from the fully stocked kitchen (I was able to make an "emergency" meal that I hadn't planned with spices and staples from what was there to supplement our meat and veggies we brought) to the comfortable bed, to the cheerful gas fireplace (no maintenance for the guest). Carole was a wonder owner, available for any slight problem, but not intrusive in the slightest. We hope to be back in the near future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I rarely write reviews but we had such an exceptionally positive experience I felt compelled to. The home is totally secluded for a real get-away but had all the amenities that made it homey. We came for Thanksgiving and found everything we needed in the well stocked kitchen to quickly put together a feast. It was nice to have speakers to connect our ipod to play music. The lofts were very popular with our group because there were several areas of privacy. We came with a dog and the owner was great about that. Nearby beaches kept the dog entertained. I brought a bike and took Lost man's trail to the site where the world heritage site was dedicated, lovely! The whole gang enjoyed the close proximity of the trails to the beautiful Trillim Falls. The owner was so kind and mailed a thermos that I was particularly fond of and left behind at her own expense. Overall, really nice place!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+.

We stayed in this wonderful farmhouse for two nights. Owner provides an incredibly well-stocked kitchen and the place is clean, comfortable, and very quiet. Only minor downside was the inability to get a cell (AT&T) signal, but the owner leaves word that using her land line for long-distance calls is just fine! She also invited us to use washer-dryer in garage, which was a very welcome bonus, as we'd been on the road for more than a week and running low on clean clothing. Proximity of trails into redwood forest is amazing (we hiked the Berry Glen trail to Lady Bird Johnson Grove--well, we ALMOST made it all the way; climb is 1,200 ft, not the stated 500, and it's a fairly strenuous switchback climb, so we ended up coming back down after about 2 hours out. We later drove into the grove, where we hiked that easy 1-mile trail), and don't miss the drive through the deep forest to Gold Bluffs Beach; we passed a mother and baby elk on their way to the open pasture on Davidson Rd, at the start of this amazing road. Thanks, Carole, for putting us up in style!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

This home is pricey, but is really the only place to stay (unless you want to camp) to be so near Fern Canyon, and several other trails. You really can walk out the door and be on a trail to hike or bike. Because of the colder, rainy weather it is nice to come back and warm up by the fireplace after a hike or bike ride. The website photos and description are accurate. My daughter loved the rocking horse in one of the lofts. There is a small store in Orick but you really need to drive to Trinidad for groceries. We enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just left the Farmhouse a few days ago, and it was awesome. The place is stocked with just about anything you could need; shampoo, conditioner, Q-tips, kid's books, herbs and spices, honey, good coffee, some basic cooking supplies (e.g. beans, rice, etc). We loved that there was wifi that was easy to access as well. Our daughter LOVED the lofts. We were late checking out due to a herd of about 30 elk hanging around outside around our car, including 6 baby elk. Hiking trails are within 100 yards of the house, and the road to Gold Bluffs beach is just down the road. The house is also just a few miles from the beginning of the scenic byway through the Redwoods. If you want to enjoy the beach and the Redwoods, this is the place for you. Terrific for a family with kids over seven years (though our three year old did fine accessing the loft with adult supervision).Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

WOW!!! We loved this place. Carole was absolutely wonderful and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay here and loved the easy access (walking distance) to the hikes. The farm house was pet friendly and our 2 labs loved playing outside in the fresh air. We did take a few scenic drives and found Davidson Road to be great. We stopped for a bit on a pet friendly beach and our labs swam, ran, and played with other dogs (we did have to pay a parking fee of $8.00). Even the drive from Los Angeles was well worth the trip. Thank you Carole!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We loved this unique property with great access to the Redwood forest, especially since we love to hike :) The home was very cozy and clean. The listing was accurate and the owner very responsive and helpful. We found it easy to climb into the loft rooms, only wishing our kids were still that small to bring them along ;) They would have loved it! The home has every amenity you could need; the only small short-coming is low water pressure, but the remoteness / special locale is worth the trade-off!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children.

The farmhouse was lovely although a bit far from Arcata where our daughter lives. We found the loft ladders a bit daunting, but the kids were fine. I wouldn't recommend it for senior citizens since the stairs to the second floor are steep where the vacation rental is located. It was really nice for all of us to be together, the living room was big enough to fit all 7 of us and the kitchen had everything we needed. Water pressure un the shower was pretty low however. The hike in the Lady Bird Johnson Grove was beautiful. It's a great getaway!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners.

My husband and I have stayed in the Farmhouse twice now, and have thoroughly enjoyed how comfortable the accommodations are. The couch is so comfortable we tend to hang out there when we are not cooking or hiking! Well-stocked kitchen, comfortable bed in the master bedroom and surprisingly quiet with highway 101 so close. The Berry Glen trail is practically just outside the door, and other gorgeous trails are easily within walking distance such as the Trillium Falls trail. In addition there are mountain biking opportunities in the area. Carole has been very hospitable and cooperative with us as the hostess. Though we live in close proximity to the park and the Farmhouse, we will return for more stays and are recommending this as a comfy get away to our friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+.

The farmhouse listing is absolutely accurate in all respects. The place is easily accessible on the east side of Hwy 101, yet shielded from most of the traffic noise. It is ideally suited for a couple although the sleeping lofts will accommodate others. Walking and biking trails intersect adjacent to the property and wander through scenic areas. Our only regret is that the majority of the nearby trails do not permit dogs, even on a leash. However, there are numerous other options for your K9 companions. The elk were glorious (the fence and the balcony were appreciated!). We were visiting on the occasion of our 50th wedding anniversary, and Carole had recommended the Larrupin' Cafe in Trinidad for a special meal. WOW! What a wonderful dinner. And for some great seafood in a fisherman's atmosphere, try the Seascape at the foot of the wharf in Trinidad. Overall, an absolutely wonderful week in the redwoods.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.
