Lovely Home in Vineyard Haven on Martha's Vineyard

Guest: Franklin (Franklin MA)

This is one of the most lovely homes I've ever stayed in. This is a mini mansion in the heart of Vineyard Haven with newspaper stores, a movie theater, coffee shops and boutiques right in the neighborhood. Superbly equipped kitchen with room for everyone to gather around the central island and talk up a storm. Owner is a pleasure to work with!

Warm and Welcoming Home

My high school friends [ class of 59 ] and I have been having breakfast once a month and traveling one weekend a year for the last 11 years. We have stayed in many nice places. This beautiful and comfortable home on Martha's Vineyard has been our favorite. So much so that it is the only place that we have returned to. I can't say enough about this home and its owner, Catherine. We have truly enjoyed staying here. There are 10 of us and Catherine's home is both comfortable for us and convenient to many sight seeing opportunities on the Vineyard. I know that my friends would agreed that if you should choose this home for your vacation you will be completely satisfied.

The Perfect Place

I told the owners I'd write a review, even though I was hesistant to do so because selfishly I wouldn't more people finding out about how incredible this place is. I stayed here and hosted out of town friends in July, and then out of town family in September, and everyone was incredibly impressed with the house, and its location right on Main Street. In particular there was a lot of space for 14 - this is not like some of the Vineyard houses that are just a bunch of sleeping rooms stuck together - there is plenty of living space for everyone, namely three living rooms, two dining areas, a huge kitchen, and two impressive master bedrooms (and also a basement with a ping pong table). All but one of the rooms are attached to a bathroom and shower. Finally, the Urbans really put a personal touch on the house - the owners are graduates of Cornell's prestigous school of hotel management and it really shows - I love the furnishings, art work, and family photos around the house that make the place feel like a real home and not just a place to sleep. I'd highly recommend this house to anyone who plans on coming to Vineyard when I don't plan to be there myself.

Massive fun house right next to a great town!

We housed 13 people (7 adults 6 kids) in this wonderful former B & B. Many bedrooms give everyone their space, but the huge kitchen is a great family gathering area. Right on the edge of Vineyard Haven, a small cozy town with a wonderful bookstore and movie theater. Highly recommend!

Unbelievably great house in Vineyard Haven

We spent a week in this house with our two children and 4 grandchildren. Everything about it was beyond perfect. We had read the positive reviews before selecting it, but no review could really do it justice. Everyone loved it--the grandkids (ages 1-6) loved their comfy rooms, the outside porches and deck, being able to go next door with Grandma first thing in the morning when everyone else was asleep to get fresh bagels. The kitchen had every appliance and gadget you could want. We lit fires in the fireplace and had wonderful outdoor barbecues. Each time we had a question we were able to contact the owner quickly. Our grandkids said they wished they could live there all the time!

Excellent Rental Home

Guest: Donna (New Hampshire)
Date of Stay: 05/31/11 Review Submitted: 06/20/11

This lovely home was shared by 16 women for a week in early June 2011. The property was spacious, VERY clean and well maintained. The patio and porch were a wonderful area to gather in addition to the large great room/kitchen. The owner met us to explain everything on the 1st day then called during the week to see if everything was going okay. We plan to rent again next year. This is our 22nd year on MV. I do believe we have found our vacation home for the next 22 years!!! The owner went out of her way to make our stay relaxing and inviting. You will not be disappointed with this rental. It is also w/in walking distance to shopping and the finest restaurants on the island!! No need for a car with this rental!! Enjoy!!

We rented this home this past July and had a wonderful stay. Catherine was so accomodating and there to answer any of our questions about the house and area. This is a beautiful house. Even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. Our party had 6 adults and 7 children and we had plenty of room! Many bathrooms was nice. The house had everything we could possibly need. It was clean and in perfect condition when we arrived. Thank you Catherine!

This house has everything!

We rented this house last week of July 2010, there were 7 kids (10-4yrs old) and 6 adults. We had more then enough room to cook, watch tv, play games, read. The location is fantastic, coffee shop right next door, nice side walks for taking walks in the AM, close to shopping, pizza, ice cream, restaurants, supermarket. The owner, Catherine was so accommodating and hospitable. There were 4 refridgerators, a washer and dryer (that was going all the time!), HUGE kitchen, plenty of seating for everyone, outside patio and grill, 2 TVs, dvds, VCR, countless bathrooms (each family had at least 2 bathrooms each). In addition, don't think you have to bring any utensils for cooking, or any beach towels, chairs or even boogie boards. EVERYTHING you need is here. If you're looking for the beach, you'll have to drive to South Beach, but there is a bathroom there and the waves are amazing! Book this place.

8/22/2009 New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, California, Balcombe, U.K. My family absolutely loved staying at Catherine's house in Vineyard Haven the week of August 15. The house was beautiful and had everything that we needed to feed and entertain all 16 of us (9 adults; 7 children, including an infant). We mostly used the enormous eat-in kitchen (2 shifts – for children and then adults) and den attached, the second floor TV room (where the older children spent most of their time), and every bedroom in the house. We barely went into the formal dining room, the parlor and the front living room, yet we always felt that there was enough space. We were thrilled that there were two pack and plays for the infant and one of the toddlers to sleep in. The house worked well for both my parents who are in their 70's and the younger 2 & 4 yr olds and everyone in between. There were books and games that could engage everyone. Luckily, we had gorgeous weather so we could easily walk to the many ice cream shops, Stop& Shop, the park/beach and a cool bookstore, which were all within 5 short blocks. The house was a great starting point for 4-5 mile runs up to the West Chop lighthouse or to the beach at Lake Tashmoo. Several times we used the MV Transit bus to go to Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Katama. We never felt that we needed more than two cars for all of us. If we choose to have our family reunion on Martha’s Vineyard again, we would definitely want to return. Thank you, Catherine & Russell!

We stayed at the house the week through July 4th 2009. It was wonderful! When I found the house on the internet I thought it was too good to be true having rented for 24 years in Edgartown. All descriptions are absolutely accurate. This house was well furnished- clearly every detail( laundry chute with openings in bathroom-could drop dirty items down and land in the laundry room) had been considered since a family had lived in the house- recently renovated it and added a new large back wing while keeping the historical front section. The owner was there the day we arrived and was eager to make sure we had everything we needed- no need to rent/bring beach towels, bath towels, sheets-beds all made up etc. The weather was not terrific that week but it didn't matter. This house was a home and had a true cook's kitchen with a large collection of cookbooks ( and other books). The kitchen opened up into an eating area and the 'tv' room. We found ourselves going through the cookbooks and making elaborate meals which in the usual rental kitchen would not have been possible at all. Because of the open floor plan our group (10-12- two families) could cook, visit, play games and keep an eye on everyone. We actually never even used the formal dining room. Location was perfect- walk to stores( starting in the next block), library, small beach, and most importantly walk about 3 blocks to a large grocery store! Offstreet parking was easy but given closeness to ferry and island transit buses could have kept vehicles to a minimum. Internet always worked. Beds excellent. Outstanding rental!Really upscale while preserving island feel.

Our family of 14 rented 92 Main Street for a week beginning August 1. The accommodations were not just comfortable. They were spacious with all the amenities one could ask for as well as privacy for everyone. We were 6 children and 8 adults. All had a wonderful time. The location could not have been more convenient. We walked out of the house and everything from restaurants, movie theater, food shopping, coffee shops, rentals of sailboats, kayaks, power boats, bikes and bus transportation was at our fingertips. There was also parking for three cars at the house and a lovely area for outdoor cooking and relaxing. Last but not least, the house was within walking distance to one small beach and a short ride to several beautiful beaches. We are planning to make reservations for next year.

What a wonderful place to stay for a family reunion. The house is beautiful and in a very convenient location. All that Vineyard Haven has to offer is just a few steps away yet when we were at the house we had complete privacy! We would stay here again for our next MV vacation.
