Bluewater Beach House Overlooking Lake Michigan

Year Purchased: 2006

Why the Owner Chose Grand Haven

The view of the Lake Michigan beachfront is spectacular and the beach very clean. We love to go for walks, bike, play tennis, kayak and windsurf, go blueberry picking and to farmers' markets, and explore the quaint downtowns of Holland, Saugatuck and Grand Haven, all very convenient side destinations from Bluewater.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

As part of a 100+ year old cottage association, Bluewater has access to tennis courts, Lake Michigan beach front volley ball courts, 2 children's play areas, beach firepits and picnic tables and docks on Pigeon Lake. All these amenities are connected by quaint walking trails that are great fun to explore.

Owner's Map of Grand Haven

Eric and Kim live in Evanston, IL (near Chicago) with our 3 children, but call Bluewater and another nearby cottage, Bluegill, our second home. Since 1908 (the inception of Port Sheldon Beach Association), many generations of Eric's family have owned and still own cottages in this association, of various vintages. Nestled in the dunes with both Lake Michigan and Pigeon Lake nearby, Port Sheldon a special place for families to enjoy peaceful, summer past times together.

Kim, Eric, As I told Kim, we rent a house every summer somewhere on the Great Lakes, and Bluewater was easily our favorite. Spectacular sunsets, easy beach, comfortable house. And blueberries. Thanks for some great memories. Thanks again for everything.

I celebrated my 60th birthday here-with my family for the first 3 days. Weather was perfect, blue skies, lots of stars, s'mores at the fire pit and great accommodations. Read a lot on the beach, watched the sun go down. Holland and Grand Haven are charming, lots to do and great food. We had a fabulous time! Best family vacation in a long time.

Bluewater is as wonderful as we remembered it from 4 years ago. Water was great (but too cold for swimming one day) with fun waves. Fabulous weather, food and company. We completed the wolf puzzle! And Hadley became a shuffle board whiz. The Lake Michigan sunsets can't be beat.

Kim, Eric and other Guests, What a great week we had up here to enjoy the beauty of God's creation with the Lake Michigan Shore, and the gift of family! Our favorites were Carini's for the annual blueberry haul back to Ohio, the direct beach access (had a blast on the waves with our kayaks), the bike paths, beach campfires, the Wednesday Farmer's Market in Holland, Fricano's for pizza in Grand Haven (Fulton St.). This lake house was clean, well stocked with beach chairs/toys/towels, paper products, etc. and the owners were attentive to needs and wanting to know what they can do to improve things for their renters. We hope to come back another time!

Kim and Eric - We had a great time at the cottage. Everything was just what we wanted for a perfect setting. . . . We loved the house, the beach, the view and the weather was so great. Tim even golfed at Grand Haven CC on Wednesday. We rented bikes on Tuesday and rode the path on Lakeshore Drive. That was so much fun! We loved the steps to the beach and it was so quiet and peaceful. No one was on the beach all week. Thanks for everything. Michele and Tim from Arizona

Kim/Eric-we all had a wonderful time staying at Bluewater-and would highly recommend it to others. Although many locals complained about the coolish weather, all of us were coming from much hotter climes and actually preferred the cooler temps. A highlight for me was body surfing on Wednesday afternoon in the biggest waves I have ever been in on Lake MI...(and I've been in them almost every summer for the past 60 years!!!) We put out the Hummingbird feeder and Faire (the 2 year old) got to see several (or the same one several times). She also fell quite in love with the yellow "turtle" drive slow people-she fed them acorns!!! . . . You might also be interested in this: All the relatives and my son's best friend from when he was 2 (and his girlfriend) kind of showed up unannounced at the cottage late Friday afternoon. It turned into an impromptu cookout for 20 people (well, 3 were babies) after a quick drive to the grocery store ...and the cottage held us all quite well..some inside, some down below, some out by the grill, some on the bench outside the kitchen door...you can probably imagine. One of the primo times of my life, and my son kicked me off the grill!!! I wish I were still there! Best, [from a renter July 2009]

We had a great time at this charming cottage. The beach was at our door step to enjoy every day and we saw beautiful sunsets from the porch every evening. Close to Holland and Grand Haven nothing could have been easier. Our kids loved the toys and we enjoyed the family friendly home. We had a wonderful vacation.
