We arrived late from the airport and made our way to the Downtown Guesthouse. We found fresh "Fire Island Bakery" bread and fixings for breakfast. What a lovely warm welcome. Everything you need to feel at home is right here. All the necessary items stocked, so the first few days here were relaxed and felt like a fine hotel. One of the owners gave his time and took some beautiful professional family photos for us during our stay. Our daughter stayed here beyond our visit for an extended hospital intern rotation for her last year in college. The owners looked out for her and gave her a lending hand when needed. It was such a relief to know that she had someone there close by and was there if she needed a hand. A special thank you to them for inviting her to dinner and treating her to an Anchorage concert, she had a wonderful time. I can't say enough nice things about the Downtown Guest House and the proprietors for all that they do to make you feel welcome.

Many interesting and fun people have found their way to our vacation rental through VRBO. We have tried to make our unit as comfortable, equipped and relaxed as possible. The access to downtown Anchorage is priceless. I love it when I come home from work and our guests are upstairs in our home either getting their portrait taken in the studio or having a drink and watching baseball with Clark. I'm a little late in writing this review, but better late than never. I stayed in this apartment for 5 weeks while working in Anchorage, and was not disappointed for one second by my choice. I travel for a living, and have used VRBO to find housing all over the country, but this place was, hands down, the best choice I ever made. The apartment (actually 1/3 of a 2 level home, next to a phoyo studio used by the owner, and their home upstairs) was exactly as described, if not better. It was comfortable, clean and quiet. In a wonderful neighborhood, and still onlt a 10 minute walk to the heart of downtown.The neighborhood had everything you could ask for, all within walking distance. My hosts, treated me like an old friend, instead of a paying guest. they were wonderful people, with a great knowledge of Anchorage, and all of Alaska. You could not ask for better folks, not to mention an incredably talented photographer, whose art work adorns the walls of the apt. Simply put, I was extremely happy with the place, the hosts, the rental rate, everything. I would not consider staying anywhere else while in Anchorage.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
