'Molokai Magic' - Premium 1-BR Ground-Floor Ocean-Side Condo
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
We refer to it as 'Molokai Magic.'
Our unit is not your typical 'vacation rental'. First and foremost we completed a total remodel. There is travertine stone throughout including the bathroom shower/tub and also extending outside on the lanai. Completely new kitchen cabinets with granite tile countertops throughout. For those who like sparkeling clean drinking water and ice there is a reverse osmosis water filter with a tap at the kitchen sink as well as piped to the automatic ice maker. The Bedroom has a nice pillow-top, king-sized bed with high-thread-count soft linens. The kitchen is equipped as a home with quality cooking gear, dishes and glassware and plenty of sharp knives, etc. There is art work on the walls and cordless phone.
We have the unit cleaned after each guest and spruced up before each guest if it has been more than a week between guests. We also have a regular pest control service so you do not have to deal with high numbers of cockroaches, etc. which we have found to be noticeably present in many other 'vacation rentals' on the island.
The Wavecrest facility is located on the southeast side of the island 13 miles from the main town of Kaunakakai. We face Maui and Lanai which are eight and four miles away respectively across the Maui channel. This places it in the perfect balance of weather to be tropical but not too rainy and not dry at all. Every other condominium facility on the island is located in much dryer locations.
Wavecrest is by far the best maintained facility on the island and the grounds are kept neat and beautiful all year round by a full-time staff of gardeners and maintenance people. Being a little further from town, there are very few families who stay there with young children who can tend to get a little noisy around the pool. Most people with families stay at Molokai Shores in town or at the dryer west-end facilities.
Molokai is a wonderful place on this planet to golf, snorkel, relax, and many other activities which involve taking in the beauty and solitude of this relatively unspoiled island paradise.
In case you are not aware, Wavecrest Resort is the nicest and best maintained condominium facility on the island and we have been told many times that our unit is the most nicely furnished and best located one-bedroom unit available for rent in the complex.
This is a nicely equipped, one-bedroom, ground-floor unit located 100 yards from the water. It has an unobstructed view of the ocean as well as looking out on the beautifully maintained gardens and grounds. The furnishings are nice, comfortable, and clean. It sleeps three in one king bed and a new (11/2012) sofa which can accomodate a 6 ft. person for comfortable sleeping..
The kitchen is well equipped with quality cooking utensils, nice dishes, glassware, and a good assortment of spices (not your typical vacation rental stuff).
Sitting on your lanai, you have spectacular views of two islands - not to mention the phenomenal whale watching (in season, which is late December through the end of April).
It is a beautiful 13-mile drive from town (Kaunakakai) to Wavecrest Resort. This resort is wonderfully quiet, even during the day. There is a beautifully tiled pool at the shoreline with magnificent views of the islands of Maui, Lanai, and Kaho'olawe as well as the majestic mountains rising up to the crest of the island.
An ancient fish pond in front of the complex makes calm, shallow water for about 200 yards out to the reef. Great snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing are there at the reef directly in front of the facility. Good surfing and body surfing can be found nearby. Fabulous hiking to lush waterfalls and historic sacred Hawaiian heiaus is within a few minutes drive.
There is a beautifully scenic, 18-hole, golf course 9currently closed) 40 minutes away on the west end of the island as well as a nine-hole course which is 25 minutes away up on the mountain by the coffee plantation and macadamia nut farm (both of which have 'low key' tours available).
By the pool are nice barbecues and a tiled, food preparation counter with a sink. The large cabana by the pool is furnished with very comfortable furniture and tables with an extensive library of paperback books to get lost in.
From the lanai of Molokai Magic you step out onto a large, well manicured, common lawn area. By the pool is a beautiful palm-studded lawn with lounge chairs. This is a great place to have a glass of wine as the day wanes and the lights of Maui and Lanai twinkle to life across the channel. The two newly surfaced tennis courts a short walk from this unit as well as the shuffleboard court by the pool round out the Wavecrest Resort's great appeal.

Well, if you are looking for a great place to stay in Molokai this is it. The photos are great but when you get there and look out at the ocean from your condo it takes your breath away! It is spotless and the kitchen is more than well equipped. Lots of books and videos to just kick back and relax. The pool is fantastic as are the two new gas BBQ grills. Back inside, the bed is comfortable and you get the trade winds coming through the bedroom and condo all day and night so it is cool for sleeping. The island is beautiful and people are more than friendly. This is NOT Honolulu so if you are looking for Mc Donalds and Starbucks you are looking in the wrong place. Make sure you wave to all the locals when driving and please remember to try and not act like a pushy tourist from the mainland. It is just a great look at the old time Hawaii. enjoy!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Dan for the nice review. I do my best to make my condo a great place to stay and operate from while my guests enjoy the natural beauty of Molokai. Bob McCann

OK – This is the “Only on Moloka’i” page. We’ve been to all of the islands – but for the past 3 years, we’ve come to “Moloka’i Magic”…Moloka’i mo-bettah! There are things that happen on Moloka’i that you would not experience on the other islands. 1. Arrival @ Moloka’i – Friendly Market packed with shoppers, as it is Dec. 23. No room to maneuver the grocery cart. We grab & go…and then melt when about 10 senior ladies begin singing, playing ukuleles and hula-ing right by the checkout. Only on Moloka’i. Mele Kalikamaka 2. Moloka’i Airport…last year a woman is meeting passengers with a large, multi-colored parrot on her shoulder. Only on Moloka’i. 3. A Wavecrest Christmas Eve. We are invited to the clubhouse…Moloka’i music…masterful Art (the security guard) on the ukulele…hula …Eban, a masterful musician…pure natural Hawaiian music…audience of six…no cover charge! Only on Moloka’i. 4. A drive out to Kaluakoi…decide to golf on the recently re-built front nine…no one behind us…no one ahead of us…just the crashing surf and a few good shots. Then a picnic at Dixie Maru beach…Only on Moloka’i. 5. A visit to the hardware/variety store on X-mas Day in search of dishwasher soap. None available in town. But the lady who worked there was feeding the birds on the sidewalk. We asked her about that. If she feeds them, they don’t come into the store. Made my day…so wash the dishes in the sink. Only on Moloka’i. 6. Huge cruise ship arriving @ Kaunakai on Saturday…protesters…let’s see what happens. Only on Moloka’i 7. Guy, Larry from Nebraska in C-104 blows on a conch shell @ 5pm to announce cocktail hour. This is a great place! Only on Moloka’i. Jud and Jan CanadaDid you find this review helpful? March 2003 Bob and Carol, What an experience! The mule ride was awesome, scary, interesting and I’m hoping my bum and back recover before too long! Today we went to Halawa Valley and had a great time. We hiked to the waterfalls and had quite an adventure. It is so beautiful here. Yesterday we had breakfast outside on the patio and saw whales off the shore. It really is magical here and I hope I can return some day. Mahalo. Back for my second visit. Many new moments for us both. This has been a great time and place to experience God’s handiwork and each other. This visit has truly been magnificent in all respects. We are both looking forward to our next visit. Still much more to see and do. Thanks Bob & Carol. Paul Adams Honolulu, HIDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/4

August 2003 Hey, what a place to be. I feel like I went back in time. Things seem simpler here and soooo laid back! I have refueled for the next year of my busy life. We (me & my husband) were here a month so we were able to explore and hike places that few will ever see. The wind is so calming. I love the sound of the earths breath. We loved the fact that “Moloka’i Magic” has so much stuff! We played tennis with your rackets which was a blast and I was able to cook wonderful dishes because you have such a great stocked kitchen. I even made a mango cake. I went to mile marker 20 and snorkled and saw the biggest eel in my life I was so frightened that I didn’t even snap a picture of it. We went on the mule ride and loved it. Scary cliffs!! It definitely is for the people who are willing to trust the mules. Beautiful scenery on the North Shore!! We did head over to Maui for the last 3 days to go diving…fun and exciting but I’m exhausted. A totally different pace. We had a great time though. This is definitely the best equipped home away from home I’ve ever stayed at. Thanks for details Bob & Carol. Nancy and ScottDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/3
