We recently rented this home for weekend! It was very clean, extremely roomy (we had 6 adults and one 5 month old) and really nicely decorated! It was accessible to the seawall as well! We will definitely keep in mind for future trips to Galveston! The reservation/payment process took less than 30 minutes and was extremely easy! Also, the refund of our deposit was the same day as we checked out! Very efficient business!!! Thank you so much!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks Shari, would love to have you again.

We're so happy that we chose to stay in this beautiful home rather than a hotel or smaller condo! You get so much more for your money here. It's definitely the nicest house in the neighborhood. Having a garage was so convenient...we didn't have to haul our loads of stuff very far, which with two kids was great. It was also nice having a full-size washer and dryer in the garage. The home is so charming...we loved the beautiful garden out front, the picket fence and the swing on the porch. There is also a nice sized deck with complete privacy to the side of the house, complete with a grill. The inside of the home is just as lovely (and clean!)...gorgeous hardwood floors, plenty of seating, and a beautifully updated kitchen and two bathrooms. We had more beds than we knew what to do with! Three queens and a set of bunk beds. Each bedroom has either a closet & dresser drawers or armoire, making it nice to be able to unpack. The house had everything we needed, including hair dryers and an iron with ironing board. Kitchen was well-equipped. The location is perfect...just a couple of blocks from the beach. We took the advice of another reviewer and loaded up our minivan with all of our beach stuff, and hubby parked it at the beach in the morning to get a close spot. Then we could just walk over at our convenience without having to haul a bunch of stuff. Perfect! I can't say enough about how happy we were with the home...and the owner, Gaard, is an absolute pleasure to deal with. He is very open to suggestions and refunded our deposit right away. You won't regret choosing this home!Owner response: I really appreciate all your compliments. We strive to provide a great place for guests to enjoy their vacation, nothing is more important to me. It warms my heart to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and our place. Please come back and see us next time your visiting our fantastic island. Have a great rest of the summer. Thank you Gaard

We recently stayed here with our kids and their spouses for a quick family vacation. This home is perfectly situated in the middle of town, close to the Strand, beach and restaurants. The house is well stocked and very comfortable. I highly recommend this property!Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay and our vacation house in Galveston. The location is great and now even better with the Pleasure Pier close by. I hope to see you back again next year. I appreciate all your compliments. Thank you Gaard

The house is well maintained and a short walk to the beach and Seawall Blvd which is the Main Street with access to Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn, dining and shopping. The house was equipped with everything we needed for preparing our meals. We all slept comfortably. I would recommend this property to families. The owner communicated well with us and was available by phone, but we did not need him.Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay at our vacation house in Galveston. Thank you for all the compliments and I hope to see you next time you are on the island. Thank you Gaard

Our family, including four kids and two grandparents, have had a lovely, relaxing post-Christmas holiday in this charming house. The house is even nicer in person than in the pictures and had plenty of space for us. Everything is nicely cared for and the kitchen and baths are nicely updated. The tub was perfect for a deep soak! The patio would be perfect for BBQs in warmer weather but we stayed cozy inside. The house is located close enough to everything - we enjoyed trips to the Strand for shopping, the Ocean Star Offshore museum, Moody Gardens, walks on the seawall and football on the beach (on a section of beach farther down the island). There are loads of restaurants nearby and a Kroger not far away either.Owner response: I am happy you enjoyed our house and it's convenience to everything on the island. Thank you for all the compliments. I hope to see you again next time you visit. Have a Happy New Year. Gaard owner

We stayed in this property Thanksgiving week. We could tell as soon as we walked in the door the owner takes great pride in making sure his guests have a good visit. This house is very clean, well maintained, and has everything you need. The location is great - two blocks from the beach, and short walk or drive to many attractions. This was our first trip to Galveston, and we enjoyed everything about it. It seemed like a great time of year to be there. The beach, the strand, the East End Historic District, and the festival of lights were great. Lot of great restaurants - Gaidos and The Gumbo Bar to name a couple. Also the best candy store we have ever been to LaKings. Our thanks to Gaard for providing a nice house for the week!Owner response: Thrilled to hear I could help make your first trip to Galveston a great experience, and to celebrate a good Thanksgiving. Nothing makes me more excited. November is usually a great month to visit. Thank you for taking such good care of the house and for all the compliments. I hope to see you again on your second visit to the great island. Thank you. Gaard

This house was an extremely charming house, inside and out. Really could not have asked for much more than we got. Very good location only a few blocks from the ocean - we loved it! A nice bonus was the availability to use the garage - we were able to pull the van in overnight and while we were away - great peace of mind to know that everything is safe and secure while we were out playing. We would defiantly recommend the house and look forward to the next time we are able to make it to Galveston to stay here again. Gaard was extremely responsive to all inquiries and kept communication open, I can't say enough good things about an owner who cares as much. Thanks! David, April and Family.Owner response: Thank you David for the personal compliments and the nice comments about our house and it's location. I strive to make it a pleasant experience for all my guests, it is nice to be recognized. I appreciate you taking care of the house and leaving it in such great condition. I would love to see you back next time you visit Galveston. Have a great day. Gaard owner

Our daugther just enrolled into TAMUG this summer as a freshman so we decided to stay in a property that isnt far from the school and get a REAL feel of living in Galveston. It was not one of my stellar moments when I made that decision. Granted the location is in a good proximity to the school but the neighborhood is less than ideal for children and there are constantly cars with loud music driving by till wee hours in the morning. We had 2 occasions while having our morning coffee in the porch that homeless individual walked into the gate to ask for cigarettes. The furnishings in the house urgently needs to be renewed. The largest sofa in the living room is impossible to sit in or to get up after trying to sit in it. So we never really had a TV night through our whole stay because there wasnt any large sofa for us to stretch out in. The WIFI has been working on and off through our stay which made our work from home impossible. The microwave door broke in my daughters hand, it was just lucky she wasnt hurt. The beds are too soft, no support and sinking in the middle. Our backs paid dearly for that stay. The sheets were mostly polyester mix which is not of any help in the summer heat. We had to eventually cave and leave earlier because it was impossible to stay on and get a good night rest. The owner has been really helpful but what could be done during our stay was limited. In overall, we will probably have to choose a different property to stay in on our next summer visit.Owner response: Customer satisfaction is my #1 priority. I'm proud of my list of over 40 stellar reviews received since opening my house to guest in 2009. As my guest mentioned, I was quick to respond to concerns upon check-in regarding a light bulb replacement and loose microwave handle. Granted the microwave handle temporary fix did not hold until the brand new replacement microwave was delivered but was, however, still fully functional. My guest mentioned to me, after their visit, both she and her husband have injured backs. The soft couch and the pillow top mattresses, which most guests really appreciate, might not have been ideal in their case. There is another sofa and numerous comfortable chairs to enjoy. I provide only 100% cotton linen and have received nothing but compliments on the furnishings, beds, and appointments. Homeless individuals do not loiter in this neighborhood and Galveston Island does have it's share of load music and traffic during the busy summer season (our house is just 2 blocks of the beach). While it is not common, the WiFi may occasionally need to be unplugged to complete the reset and could have been repaired immediately had I been contacted. I'm sincerely disappointed that I wasn't given the opportunity to address these concerns during my guest's visit. Thank you. Gaard owner

This home has everything you need and in the best location, you just can't beat it! My family and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend and it was great! the beach is 2 blocks away! My husband would take his morning coffee and drive the car (packed up with all the beach toys, umbrella, and chairs) up 2 blocks to the seawall and get a front row parking space on the beach side and then walk back to the house and when me and the kids were ready to go to the beach later that morning we just walked with the kids, it was so easy! Then, when we were done at the beach we packed up the car and hopped in!!! So fabulous! In the evening we took a pedi-cab (the guys on the bicycles that carry you on the back) all 4 of us and rode to Pleasure Pier and had a blast then the pedi-cab bikes are right there waiting for you when you exit the Pier, they run on tips of whatever you think is fare, we thought $20 since he carried all 4 of us! Also, Krogers and Academy is right down the street for anything you could possibly need or forgot:) Great time! Thanks again!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am thrilled you had such a great time and enjoyed our house. The location is very convenient to attractions and shopping. I have to check out the Pedi-Cabs I have not done that yet, it is new this year. There is a lot of new exciting things happening to Galveston. This month Disney Cruise Line will start sailing from Galveston, and with the new Pleasure Pier it makes it a fun place to visit for the whole family. I hope to see you back soon. Thank you. Gaard Owner

About the owner: Family owned property in Galveston Texas
Why the Owner Chose East End Historic District:
What started as a winter retreat for Norwegian family members, the 'Love Shack' has become a cherished family getaway for all. The famous Galveston Island 'magic' can be felt throughout her sturdy walls and original 1913 wooden floors. Weathering Ike with only minimal exterior bumps and bruises, Love Shack is now more beautiful than ever with a new whitewashed picket fence, deck, and lush front garden. Galveston has become our home away from home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The recent outdoor addition of a large private deck and beautiful landscaping have made weekends even more enjoyable. Grab the floats and towels for a quick stroll to the beach in the morning where the 37th street pier and life guard stand makes for a safe and fun family spot. That evening, return with beach chairs for a beautiful sunset colored sky to remember. The east end Seawall offers a wide variety of entertainment and dining options within easy walking distance of the Love Shack. You can also walk to the new pleasure pier. Leave the car in the garage for a night of fun on the Galveston Seawall!
