Location: Ocean Beach, San Diego County, California, USA View Map

Accommodations:  Beach Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 5-7)

Historic charm, relaxing surroundings, and modern luxuries await you at Cable Street Cottage, a fully-renovated (2007) vacation home located just a short walk from the beach. Our tidy, well-appointed house is a world away from the generic box-style vacation condos of Mission and Pacific Beaches. We have everything you need for a wonderful vacation in one of the best beach neighborhoods of San Diego!

Our cottage is on its own fenced lot in a safe, quiet neighborhood. It is a short walk to the beach and to the nightlife and shops of Newport Ave. We can accommodate up to 7 guests - two in each bedroom, two on a pull out couch, and one in a convertible twin bed or crib (available on request.) We provide clean, fresh sheets & towels for all guests at no charge.

The living quarters include:
* Large living room with flat screen TV, cable, free wi-fi internet, printer, & DVD player
* Dining room with wine bar
* Full chef's kitchen with granite countertops, stunning ebony cabinets, and stainless steel appliances (French Door/bottom freezer refrigerator, high-end five-burner stove, microwave, and dishwasher.) All utensils, glassware, and plates are provided and all are brand new (no hand-me-downs or mismatched sets here!)
* Bathroom with rain-soak showerhead and pedestal sink
* Laundry room with convenient combination washer/dryer and drying racks.
* Ample outdoor living space – including a furnished front porch, and a covered patio with outdoor living room, grill, and dining area. Both outdoor areas are lighted for evening use!
* Beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas are available on request
* A pack n' play style crib or twin convertible bed is available for a $50 fee per visit.

Cable Street Cottage is just minutes from all that Ocean Beach and San Diego have to offer. Sandy beaches, scenic cliffs, and the famous Ocean Beach Pier are less than three blocks away, as is “downtown” Newport Avenue, a lively commercial street lined with an eclectic collection of antique stores, craft galleries, eateries and pubs.

The cottage is less than a one and a half block walk from the nearest drug store and grocery store (a larger supermarket is four blocks away, still within walking distance.) We are also a 5 minute drive from the I-8 and the I-5, the gateways to the rest of the city of San Diego, and fewer than 15 minutes from the airport and the cruise ship terminal.

Why the Owner Chose Ocean Beach

I chose this neighborhood because it is so convenient, safe, and quiet. I chose this particular *house* because it was in desperate need of renovation - 40 years of transient tenants along with some very ill-advised renovations in the 1960s had left the place a sad, dilapidated mess - complete with faux wood paneling, gold wall-to-wall carpet, and industrial-style fluorescent light fixtures.

The Unique Benefits at this Beach Cottage

My favorite thing to do at the cottage is to sit on the front porch reading the paper and drinking my morning coffee. Local residents walking their dogs often stop to chat (even with our guests!), and the next door neighbor's cat comes and sits at my feet, keeping me company. I also enjoy opening up all the windows at night when it's quiet and listening to the shush of the waves. On colder nights, I light a small fire in the fireplace and just curl up with a glass of wine reading a book and listening to the crackle of the fire. On warmer nights friends and I sit out on the covered patio with the lights on low, noshing on whatever treats we've thrown on the grill. Whenever I want, the beach and civilization is less than a 10 minute walk away, but I love the house so much that I spend much of my time there!

A
Ocean Beach Pier

The longest pier on the West Coast, the OB Pier is a great place for a morning walk - it is almost a mile out and back! Punctuate your walk with breakfast at the OB Pier Cafe. The cafe itself is hum

B
Dog Beach

OB's very own leashless dog beach! Sometimes I go here just to see and play with other peoples dogs - they are so happy to be in the sun and waves and sand!

C
Olive Tree Market

This is an excellent grocery store, deli, and wine shop within walking distance of the cottage.

D
The Vine (wine bar & restaurant)

The nearest restaurant and wine bar to the cottage (there are many others on Newport Ave.) Almost everything here is delicious, and between 4 and 6 every day all their wines-by-the-glass (and bottles

E
Rite Aid

Nearest drug store to the cottage.

Beginning of the Beach

The 'beach' in Ocean Beach extends northward from this point, up to Dog Beach. South of this point, scenic cliffs rise up from the water. In many places there are stairs and trails to go down to the

H
Appletree Market

This is a larger supermarket that has everything you'll need for your stay! Their produce is very good, and they have a large selection of Mexican spices.

South Beach Bar & Grill

A must-visit. South Beach was voted to be one of the top three places in the country to get fish tacos, a San Diego staple. Get the Baja version (where the fish is fried.) Served on a soft flour to
