Why the Owner Chose Savannah

When Terry and I first visited the Savannah area in 2005, we were instantly drawn to the city of Savannah - especially the Historic District. The beautiful squares, the Spanish moss hanging from the giant oak trees and lining the streets - the restaurants, galleries, and small interesting shops drew us to the city. And the real bonus was - just 20 minutes away is the beach! Savannah really has the best of all worlds! Every time we visit, we find new and wonderful things to do and to explore. We keep bicycles at the house so that we can get around the city with ease (there is literally, hardly any traffic on many streets)...and when we get the urge for sand and surf, we jump in the car and head out to beautiful Tybee Island!

The Unique Benefits at this House

Our home - at 515 E. Huntingdon Street - is on a safe and quiet street at the southeast corner of the Historic District. It is a 3 minute drive to River Street - a four block walk to Forsythe Park. We bicycle all over the city and never have to worry about parking! The feedback that we've gotten from people staying in our home has been incredibly positive - as they love the fact that it's comfortable and cozy. As we plan to retire there in about 5 years - and we now visit as often as we can - the house is decorated and equipped with everything anyone could need. Our house manager, who is a licensed realtor and is located at the end of the block, makes sure that the house is clean and kept in perfect working order! VRBO has been a tremendous resource for us - as we love to hear from people all over who are interested in renting our home.

Owner's Map of Savannah

Terry and I live with our 12 year old son, Skyler, at a boarding school in Washington, Connecticut, where Terry teaches math. I own a school for young children, Creative Arts Studio, in Woodbury, CT. Between us we have 6 children - but only Sky is still at home with us. Terry is a collector and an explorer. He has impressive collections of Native American relics, old coins, bottles and just about anything "collectible". My interests include singing, songwriting and world drumming. Together, Savannah offers us both history and culture and the nearby beaches of Tybee Island. Our home in Savannah, where we plan to retire when Skyler is ready for college - reflects our tastes and interests. It is comfortable and cozy and is decorated with "treasures" that we have collected over the years.

    • I was attending an Arborist conference at the Hyatt, and hate to stay at the faceless chain hotels. The little home on Huntingdon was just right - I walked to the supermarket to stock up on breakfast items and comfort food, to avoid the sweet pastries at the hotel, and took a different route, passing different squares, each day; also, I started and finished reading 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' before I went to sleep each night. (There were two copies in the house!) Minor difficulties with the bicycles aside, I had such a nice visit.

      Homeowner Response:
Thanks, Maria. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We will be back down to our home on Huntingdon Street soon and will take a look at the bicycles!

    • We stayed for 4 nights with our 2 small dogs, and found the house very comfortable. We did have a problem with the condition of the yard..when we arrived we were dreading the inside of the house, thinking it would correspond to the outside...so much overgrowth of weeds and just yuck! The dogs were covered with cockleburrs immediately when they went to the bathroom, and they also picked some up in the back yard as it curves to the side of the house. We learned to go across the street for them to do their business! Also, really did need an electric coffee pot! The kitchen was fantastic, and really, the whole house was great...very relaxing and nice to come home to after a day of sightseeing. The location was good too, and able to take the dogs on long walks in a safe area. The upstairs small tv was confusing; the remote must be used downstairs to change a channel, so it would be nice to have directions on this as it took us 3 days to figure out the system! All in all, this is definitely a nice vacation home at a fantastic price!

      Homeowner Response:
Thanks so much for your feedback. We will talk to our Property Manager about cleaning up the backyard. We will also ask her to purchase an electric coffee pot. We will purchase a second TV for the upstairs when we come down at Christmas time.

    • Great place to stay after a day at Tybee or down on River Street. Nice to be able to come home and relax after running all day. Just bring your clothes and pick up a few groceries, and you're set. Great people. Thanks!!!!

      Homeowner Response:
Thanks for the comment!. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed our home.

    • We enjoyed staying at your house. The size of the kitchen really surprised me-it's huge! And the location was perfect for us. It was so nice to be able to walk to a grocery store and a really nice playground for the kids. It was also easy for me to block off the TV room and turn it into a playroom for the kids. I have 2 suggestions. Perhaps consider buying an electric coffee pot for those visitors who need their caffeine fix. The hand held coffee maker just isn't as convieniant. My only other suggestion would be to maybe buy a bigger TV for the living room. We really enjoy relaxing and watching TV when the kids go to bed, and becuase of my eye sight I had a little trouble watching the TV. Perhaps a larger TV for downstairs and moving the smaller TV upstairs into the bedroom?? But other than that, we had a great time! It was SO SO SO much better than staying in a hotel!!!!

      Homeowner Response:
Thanks so much for your comment! Our Property Manager has equipped the house with an electric coffee pot. We are also planning to purchase a second TV when we are down at Christmastime. We're glad you enjoyed your stay! Julie and Terry
