A Lovingly Restored 1920's Cottage On The Lake in a Private Family Compound
Heron House is the lakefront retreat that families are drawn to, returning year after year to enjoy its charm, waking up to the sun on the lake, and overlooking the expansive lawn that starts at the foot of the deck and runs into the water. From the comfort of Heron House, you can watch the kids play on the lawn, swim or ski, or watch the sunset over the lake with a glass of locally-crafted, award winning wine.
With room for the whole family, Heron House can very comfortably sleep everyone, while still being spacious enough to provide quiet space to read or enjoy a glass of wine. Three giant sliding doors open the house up to the fifteen-hundred square foot, partially covered deck that runs across the back of the house, and overlooks the lake. Big enough for two picnic tables, the BBQ, Adirondack chairs and lounges, we live out here in the summer!
Inside Heron House: Totally Renovated While Retaining The Charm of an Earlier Era
The master bedroom and bath overlook the lake, as does the guest bedroom through French doors. There is a small child's room with a twin sized bunk bed off the hall, and the enclosed sun porch runs the length of deck.
Downstairs, there's another bedroom with double beds, while the TV room (new 36' TV and a DVD/Video player) doubles as the kid's den and an extra bedroom. Both overlook the lake, and the door leads right to the lawn and beachfront.
With forced air heating and a giant stone fireplace for the cooler months, it's as much fun to stay in Heron House during a rainstorm as it is in the middle of summer.
On Soda Bay at Clear Lake: Enjoy an Upstate East Coast Ambiance Here in Northern California
Located in Lake County, on California's largest natural lake known for its glittering night sky, Heron House is the closest Bay Area residents can get to a classic East Coast summer vacation in the Adirondacks, only two hours away from San Francisco or Sacramento.
As part of Bell Haven, a three-and-one-half acre, fully-fenced, private family compound with a total of only 6 houses, you and the kids will also enjoy the recreation room, firepit and expansive grounds.
In the 'rec room,' you'll find a pool table, couches, TV and games. Just outside, the big firepit is surrounded by classic Adirondack Chairs, the perfect spot for S'mores and a glass of wine. A ping-pong table, croquet and lawn volleyball are all available if you'd like to round out the perfect day.
On the beach, you'll have use of kayaks, a canoe and rowboats, while the pier and brand-new dock extend into the lake with the perfect platform for sunning, swimming, fishing or watching the sunset give way to a glittering night sky.
Hiking or swimming at Clear Lake State Park is a five minute drive or a ten minute canoe ride away, a nesting place for waterfowl of all kinds as well as Indian lore and a Pomo village.
Fishing, Boating, Golfing and Wine Tasting - What Do You Want to Do?
And with some of the best bass fishing in the west, Clear Lake is the perfect spot to perfect your angling skills. Many a five-pounder (and some bigger!) have been caught right off our dock. In tournament season, you’ll see the bass boats sneaking under our pier in hopes of catching “the big one.” Anglers can also catch large mouth bass, crappie, bluegill and channel catfish.
With over a dozen award-winning wineries nearby - including Ceago, a short boat ride away - Lake County is a wine lovers paradise. And if golf is your game, Buckingham Golf & Country Club is also a short car or boat ride away.

Our family has been vacationing at Clear Lake since 1963 and we’ve been staying at the Heron House at Bellhaven Resort since 1992. We just love it there, which is why we keep coming back! Bellhaven Resort is an excellent place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s very rustic and shaded and they have a lot of fun outdoor activities to do there for free: swimming, kayaking, ping pong, badminton, volleyball, horseshoes, etc. They have a nice boat dock that’s great for boats, sunbathing and fishing. Clear Lake is one of the top Bass fishing lakes in the country and they have frequent fishing tournaments there. Large Mouth Bass thrive there because the water is around 82-degrees during the summer months. The Heron House has a large redwood deck that overlooks the lake with nice, wide steps that go down to a sizeable lawn area located right next to the lake. It’s big enough for setting up a volleyball court with plenty of room left over for setting out several chaise lounges. The redwood deck itself has tables with umbrellas and chairs and a couple of chaise lounges to boot. It’s a perfect place to catch some rays or play some board games under the shelter of an umbrella. It also has a large gas-fired barbecue and lots of room for storing fishing gear, wakeboards, etc. As far as indoor activities go, they have a very nice recreation room at Bellhaven Resort with a pool table, a TV and a large square table that’s perfect for those 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles! And just outside the recreation room, they have a nice fire pit, which is a great place for roasting marshmallows and making S’mores. There are several places around the lake for renting fishing boats, ski boats, wakeboard boats, pontoon boats, jet skis, wave runners, etc. You can also hire professional fishing guides to take you around to some of the best fishing holes at Clear Lake. About 15 minutes down the road from Bellhaven Resort is the town of Lakeport, where you will find almost anything you need; including a small movie theatre complex, retail stores, restaurants and Renee’s famous milk shakes! If you like wine-tasting, there’s an excellent winery called Ciego located about 20 minutes down the road from Bellhaven resort. They have a small deli and tables so that you can sip wine and snack on cheese, salami, fresh-baked bread, etc. I highly recommend that you give a try to the Heron House, located at Bellhaven Resort on the shores of Clear Lake!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Bellhaven / Heron House has been our family's vacation destination for over 15 years. Our troops include grandparents in their 80's and grandkids as young as 2. WE LOVE THIS PLACE! The view of the lake is amazing. The house is kept very clean. There is always some sort of upgrade/improvement from the previous year. Plenty of activities for everyone. The fishing is great right off the dock. Full kitchen for cooking everything from dinners to birthday cakes, which is somewhat of a tradition every year. There is even a convenience store within walking distance which has everything you might have forgotten, including nightcrawlers for fishing! There are caretakers on site that are very, very nice to answers any and all concerns. There is even WiFi. The bunk beds room is always a favorite for the little ones, and the downstairs is the secret oasis when temperatures outside exceed 100. (about 15 degrees cooler AND cable TV). If you're expecting the Ritz Carlton, you should not be vacationing at Clear Lake, but if you're looking for a great family vacation spot for lake activities or relaxtion, there is none better than this place.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The Heron House is the best place to stay in Lake County. It is right on the lake, has a large deck facing the lake and lawn going to the boat dock. My family rents other units on the same property and the Heron House deck can accommodate us for our meals. The house is very clean and the property is well maintained. The owner and property managers are the best. They are always available to answer any question or help with any issue you have. I would highly recommend this house to anyone that wants to relax or enjoy all water sports.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
