“Un croisement” is a crossroad or junction, which perfectly describes this big, bright apartment ideally situated between the historic Marais, the trendy Canal St Martin/Oberkampf neighborhoods and the lively Bastille area.

Located on the wide, tree-lined boulevard Richard Lenoir, the area that Gourmet magazine recently described as “The New Left Bank” is right at your doorstep.

After a wonderfully exhausting day of exploring Paris’ most vibrant arrondissements, you’ll return to your pied à terre in a beautiful, well-maintained 20th century Art Deco building with concierge.

The entry has digi-code as well as double key-code entry and interphone. Walk through the lobby to the private interior courtyard and take the classic, iron-caged elevator to the 3rd floor (4th floor American).

At check-in, you’ll be greeted by our English-speaking apartment manager. He’ll give you the keys, show you around the apartment, explain the operation of the appliances and be available to help if anything comes up during your stay.

As you enter, you’ll notice the calm, quiet ambience of this roomy 600+ sq. foot apartment with its high ceilings and craftsman-style crown moldings. It was recently renovated with fresh paint, refinished original hardwood floors and all new appliances and furnishings.

Tastefully decorated in soft, soothing tones, everything was selected to ensure a relaxing, comfortable séjour à Paris. Large double-paned windows in each room provide lots of light and airflow. The apartment overlooks the interior courtyard on one side and a small side street on the other, so you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet that’s almost impossible to find in a city center.

The living room’s floor-to-ceiling windows open to a small balcony. You can curl up on the plush, contemporary-style sofa and catch up on world events on the flat-screen TV/DVD with over 130 channels including CNN, CNBC, Sky News and BBC.

Or uncork a nice Bordeaux and enjoy the stereo/CD (with iPod connections) while you flip through the apartment’s large, eclectic collection of guidebooks and plan your next day’s excursions.

Keep in touch with family and friends with high-speed internet service (WI-FI or cable) or just pick up the phone… long distance calls to the US, Canada and over 70 countries are free and unlimited.

The separate walk-in kitchen is the perfect place to practice your French culinary skills (there’s even a Julia Child’s cookbook for those who need a little help). With the freshest ingredients from the neighborhood’s many markets, boucheries, boulangeries and fromageries and this fully equipped kitchen, whipping up your own French feast will be a joy.

The full-sized fridge with separate freezer, full-sized gas stove with 4 gas burners, convection-toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker and blender make this a cook’s kitchen. Everything you need including pots, pans, utensils and dishware are in the built in wooden cabinets.

Spread your feast on the antique wooden dining table with 4 authentic café-style chairs, and dine to the soft sounds of Edith Piaf on the stereo.

Just off the hallway, behind wide French doors, the bedroom is furnished with incredibly comfortable queen-sized bed (160 x 200 cm), high-thread count cotton sheets, lots of pillows and cozy comforters. There’s a small bureau with 3 drawers and a full-length mirror.

Floor-to-ceiling double windows open to a second small balcony overlooking a quiet passage. You’ll drift off to sleep beneath a romantic crystal chandelier.

In the hallway, a large closet with plenty of shelves and hangers provides lots of room for your clothes and luggage.

The bathroom and separate WC are across the hallway. The shower is equipped with both overhead and handheld massage heads. There’s also a washing machine, magnifying mirror and hair dryer, as well as lots of cabinet space beneath the long blue and white tiled countertop for your personal items.

All bed linens and towels are provided. You’ll also find an iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. A comprehensive information booklet includes operating instructions for all the apartment’s appliances as well as local information and emergency numbers.

There’s even a yoga mat if you need a good stretch after a long flight. We’ve included everything you need to feel right at home in the world’s most beautiful city.

The neighborhood:

This Parisian arrondissement has been called Eleventh Heaven. In every direction you’ll find galleries and museums, cafés and restaurants, bars and shopping. Staying in this little residential enclave will make you feel like a real Parisian—close enough to everything, yet just far enough from the tourist traps.

Paris’ biggest open-air fresh market is a few blocks towards the Bastille every Sunday and Thursday morning. The beautiful “bobo” Canal St Martin (short for bourgeois-bohemian) is just a few blocks in the other direction. The ancient Marais and trendy Oberkampf are even closer. Three metro lines (#5, #8, #9) are within 2 blocks: St Ambroise, Oberkampf, Richard Lenoir and St Sébastien-Froissart, as well as with several bus lines.

This was our first visit to Paris, as well as our first time renting a vacation apartment. Joan walked us patiently through the process every step of the way. She is very personable and full of vital information about Paris and the neighborhood. Living in an apartment rather than a hotel room was light an day! We were in a true Parisian neighborhood away from the tourist sites, but close to Metro stops, restaurants, pharmacy and anything else we may have needed. The best part was that it was close to the main station (4 stops), so our arrival and departure from Paris were a breeze. The apartment itself was perfectly appointed with plenty of room, dishwasher, washing machine and racks for drying laundry, entertainment, and all the kitchen equipment one would want to have for cooking on vacation. I especially loved the inside doors with window panes letting the light wash through the apartment. One never knows beforehand about how comfortable the sleeping arrangements might be, but the bed and bedding were just as comfortable as advertised. My husband and I loved the experience and would definitely book a little in advance to be able to stay in Joan's lovely, restful apartment.

Our 11 night stay in this wonderful apartment during the month of February could not have been more perfect. The apartment was warm and welcoming and contained everything we needed to settle in and enjoy. The neighborhood is a perfect location - easy walk to Notre Dame and the beautiful Seine River, close to the Metro and wonderful restaurants. The apartment manager was very helpful and spoke English, which we appreciated very much. This apartment was recommended to us by a friend who visits Paris often, and we will recommend it to our friends as well.

My husband and I have rented a number of perfectly okay apartments in Paris over the last 10 years, but this is the first one that we would rent again, for many reasons. You will love this part of the 11th arrondisement: it's extremely central, with ultra-convenient bus and metro options, and close enough to walk to the Marais, Bastille, Canal St.-Martin. Location, location, location. The photos and description are smack-on accurate, the bed was very comfortable, the kitchen more-than-adequately equipped. Everything was perfectly clean on arrival, when we were met by helpful English-speaking manager Philippe. This apartment is about as quiet as it gets in Paris: a courtyard on one side, a tiny "passage" on the other, and (this is important) light-footed upstairs neighbors. Don't forget the beautiful (yet functional) old elevator, so you're not hauling your bags up 4 floors. The building itself is well run and immaculate. There were only two of us, so we did not try the sofabed. The apartment is spacious by French standards (extra counter space in the bathroom is nice, and the toilet is separate), so 3 friends or 2 couples would were friendly would be okay, though you wouldn't have all the luxurious space that we did. But beats the heck out of a typical hotel. Most important is the owner, Joan, an American. I felt like I was being hosted by a friend who happened to be out of town, not a "landlord." From the beginning of the relationship, which started many months ago, she was responsive, good-humored and helpful, always going the extra mile to make sure I fully understood everything about the apartment and the neighborhood. She even offered and made restaurant reservations for us. (Let her do it for you, too. She knows the spots.) Everything she said turned out to be 100 percent correct. And when we had a tiny snafu with an appliance in the apartment, she immediately offered a generous rent reduction. This owner is the most important factor in this type of rental. I'm sort of sorry I'm adding to the raves, because it's going to be that much harder to get on the calendar in the future. Tant pis.

We stay in apartments regularly when we travel, and this one was exceptional: spacious, bright, clean, quiet, and well organized and considered. There are excellent restaurants nearby, and incredibly easy access to all of Paris, via walking or metro. The Bastille area, the Marais, the Seine, Canal St.Martin, Belleville, and more, within walking distance. The owner is the most helpful and generous owner we have ever dealt with, and the on-site manager was also reliable and available.

My husband and I just got back from our trip to Paris. This apartment is very roomy and well appointed! It was amazing to have a full working kitchen in which to cook (plus the dishwasher was a bonus!). Joan was very helpful and was quick to respond when contacted. I am already dreaming of my next trip. I highly recommend the apartment.

Listing description fairly described apartment, and location. The manual or looseleaf folder describing how to use the appliances was thorough and helpful, as French appliances vary somewhat from those commonly used in the US. The apartment is functional, but not fancy. The bed is very comfortable, and I would recommend this apartment.to a friend. Au Passage, a restaurant Joan recommended, was wonderful.

We loved the apartment and the neighborhood. It was simply furnished, very comfortable, and just the right amount of noise - good windows that shut out most everything, but a dim hum that made you aware you were in a major city. In every direction there are great streets to explore - boulangeries, patissieres, poissonneries, cafes. Great people watching - very diverse neighborhood age-wise, race wise, etc. And very few tourists. Yet walking distance to other neighborhoods - the Bastille, the Marais, and convenient to the Metro. Joan was great to deal with and I particularly appreciated her restaurant recommendations. The apartment has many guidebooks and other useful information. I was here with my husband - perfect size for two people.

Quite simply one of the nicest VRBO experiences we've had. My wife and I have rented from VRBO at least a dozen times over the past few years and have experienced a wide range of amenities and services. Joan's apartment is nice and clean with everything you need, and the location is safe and convenient. Where she really set's herself apart is the thorough preparation for her renters and her follow-through in seeing that you really enjoy your time in Paris. The apartment came with a very thorough binder with instructions for everything, plus information on the neighborhood and what to do in Paris. We received detailed advise on everything from where to eat, what to do (don't miss the open market) and how to best exchange currency. I almost don't want to hype it up too much for fear that we wont be able to book it in the future, but Joan deserves it =) Easily one of our top 3 vacation renting experiences ever.

We stayed in the apartment during the coldest part of the winter. Warm and inviting would describe it well. The kitchen had a full sized refrigerator - a rarity in Paris apartments, and a nice stove and oven. The location is convenient to the Marais, the Bastille, and several train lines, and the neighborhood has some wonderful restaurants and cafes. The internet connection was fast and reliable, which was something that was important to us. We would definitely rent again if the apartment is available when we return to Paris.
