Location: Paris Arrondissement 11, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (Walk to the Marais, Bastille, Oberkampf and Canal St Martin)
Accommodations: Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)
“Un croisement” is a crossroad or junction, which perfectly describes this big, bright apartment ideally situated between the historic Marais, the trendy Canal St Martin/Oberkampf neighborhoods and the lively Bastille area.
Located on the wide, tree-lined boulevard Richard Lenoir, the area that Gourmet magazine recently described as “The New Left Bank” is right at your doorstep.
After a wonderfully exhausting day of exploring Paris’ most vibrant arrondissements, you’ll return to your pied à terre in a beautiful, well-maintained 20th century Art Deco building with concierge.
The entry has digi-code as well as double key-code entry and interphone. Walk through the lobby to the private interior courtyard and take the classic, iron-caged elevator to the 3rd floor (4th floor American).
At check-in, you’ll be greeted by our English-speaking apartment manager. He’ll give you the keys, show you around the apartment, explain the operation of the appliances and be available to help if anything comes up during your stay.
As you enter, you’ll notice the calm, quiet ambience of this roomy 600+ sq. foot apartment with its high ceilings and craftsman-style crown moldings. It was recently renovated with fresh paint, refinished original hardwood floors and all new appliances and furnishings.
Tastefully decorated in soft, soothing tones, everything was selected to ensure a relaxing, comfortable séjour à Paris. Large double-paned windows in each room provide lots of light and airflow. The apartment overlooks the interior courtyard on one side and a small side street on the other, so you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet that’s almost impossible to find in a city center.
The living room’s floor-to-ceiling windows open to a small balcony. You can curl up on the plush, contemporary-style sofa (with a comfy fold-out double bed) and catch up on world events on the flat-screen TV/DVD with over 130 channels including CNN, CNBC, Sky News and BBC.
Or uncork a nice Bordeaux and enjoy the stereo/CD (with iPod connections) while you flip through the apartment’s large, eclectic collection of guidebooks and plan your next day’s excursions.
Keep in touch with family and friends with high-speed internet service (WI-FI or cable) or just pick up the phone… long distance calls to the US, Canada and over 70 countries are free and unlimited.
The separate walk-in kitchen is the perfect place to practice your French culinary skills (there’s even a Julia Child’s cookbook for those who need a little help). With the freshest ingredients from the neighborhood’s many markets, boucheries, boulangeries and fromageries and this fully equipped kitchen, whipping up your own French feast will be a joy.
The full-sized fridge with separate freezer, full-sized gas stove with 4 gas burners, convection-toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker and blender make this a cook’s kitchen. Everything you need including pots, pans, utensils and dishware are in the built in wooden cabinets.
Spread your feast on the antique wooden dining table with 4 authentic café-style chairs, and dine to the soft sounds of Edith Piaf on the stereo.
Just off the hallway, behind wide French doors, the bedroom is furnished with incredibly comfortable queen-sized bed (160 x 200 cm), high-thread count cotton sheets, lots of pillows and cozy comforters. There’s a small bureau with 3 drawers and a full-length mirror.
Floor-to-ceiling double windows open to a second small balcony overlooking a quiet passage. You’ll drift off to sleep beneath a romantic crystal chandelier.
In the hallway, a large closet with plenty of shelves and hangers provides lots of room for your clothes and luggage.
The bathroom and separate WC are across the hallway. The shower is equipped with both overhead and handheld massage heads. There’s also a combination washer/dryer, magnifying mirror and hair dryer, as well as lots of cabinet space beneath the long blue and white tiled countertop for your personal items.
All bed linens and towels are provided. You’ll also find an iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. A comprehensive information booklet includes operating instructions for all the apartment’s appliances as well as local information and emergency numbers.
There’s even a yoga mat if you need a good stretch after a long flight. We’ve included everything you need to feel right at home in the world’s most beautiful city.
The neighborhood:
This Parisian arrondissement has been called Eleventh Heaven. In every direction you’ll find galleries and museums, cafés and restaurants, bars and shopping. Staying in this little residential enclave will make you feel like a real Parisian—close enough to everything, yet just far enough from the tourist traps.
Paris’ biggest open-air fresh market is a few blocks towards the Bastille every Sunday and Thursday morning. The beautiful “bobo” Canal St Martin (short for bourgeois-bohemian) is just a few blocks in the other direction. The ancient Marais and trendy Oberkampf are even closer. Three metro lines (#5, #8, #9) are within 2 blocks: St Ambroise, Oberkampf, Richard Lenoir and St Sébastien-Froissart, as well as with several bus lines.
