Location: Paris Arrondissement 11, Paris, Ile-de-France (Paris Area), France, Europe (Walk to the Marais, Bastille, Oberkampf and Canal St Martin)

Accommodations:  Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

“Un croisement” is a crossroad or junction, which perfectly describes this big, bright apartment ideally situated between the historic Marais, the trendy Canal St Martin/Oberkampf neighborhoods and the lively Bastille area.

Located on the wide, tree-lined boulevard Richard Lenoir, the area that Gourmet magazine recently described as “The New Left Bank” is right at your doorstep.

After a wonderfully exhausting day of exploring Paris’ most vibrant arrondissements, you’ll return to your pied à terre in a beautiful, well-maintained 20th century Art Deco building with concierge.

The entry has digi-code as well as double key-code entry and interphone. Walk through the lobby to the private interior courtyard and take the classic, iron-caged elevator to the 3rd floor (4th floor American).

At check-in, you’ll be greeted by our English-speaking apartment manager. He’ll give you the keys, show you around the apartment, explain the operation of the appliances and be available to help if anything comes up during your stay.

As you enter, you’ll notice the calm, quiet ambience of this roomy 600+ sq. foot apartment with its high ceilings and craftsman-style crown moldings. It was recently renovated with fresh paint, refinished original hardwood floors and all new appliances and furnishings.

Tastefully decorated in soft, soothing tones, everything was selected to ensure a relaxing, comfortable séjour à Paris. Large double-paned windows in each room provide lots of light and airflow. The apartment overlooks the interior courtyard on one side and a small side street on the other, so you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet that’s almost impossible to find in a city center.

The living room’s floor-to-ceiling windows open to a small balcony. You can curl up on the plush, contemporary-style sofa (with a comfy fold-out double bed) and catch up on world events on the flat-screen TV/DVD with over 130 channels including CNN, CNBC, Sky News and BBC.

Or uncork a nice Bordeaux and enjoy the stereo/CD (with iPod connections) while you flip through the apartment’s large, eclectic collection of guidebooks and plan your next day’s excursions.

Keep in touch with family and friends with high-speed internet service (WI-FI or cable) or just pick up the phone… long distance calls to the US, Canada and over 70 countries are free and unlimited.

The separate walk-in kitchen is the perfect place to practice your French culinary skills (there’s even a Julia Child’s cookbook for those who need a little help). With the freshest ingredients from the neighborhood’s many markets, boucheries, boulangeries and fromageries and this fully equipped kitchen, whipping up your own French feast will be a joy.

The full-sized fridge with separate freezer, full-sized gas stove with 4 gas burners, convection-toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker and blender make this a cook’s kitchen. Everything you need including pots, pans, utensils and dishware are in the built in wooden cabinets.

Spread your feast on the antique wooden dining table with 4 authentic café-style chairs, and dine to the soft sounds of Edith Piaf on the stereo.

Just off the hallway, behind wide French doors, the bedroom is furnished with incredibly comfortable queen-sized bed (160 x 200 cm), high-thread count cotton sheets, lots of pillows and cozy comforters. There’s a small bureau with 3 drawers and a full-length mirror.

Floor-to-ceiling double windows open to a second small balcony overlooking a quiet passage. You’ll drift off to sleep beneath a romantic crystal chandelier.

In the hallway, a large closet with plenty of shelves and hangers provides lots of room for your clothes and luggage.

The bathroom and separate WC are across the hallway. The shower is equipped with both overhead and handheld massage heads. There’s also a combination washer/dryer, magnifying mirror and hair dryer, as well as lots of cabinet space beneath the long blue and white tiled countertop for your personal items.

All bed linens and towels are provided. You’ll also find an iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. A comprehensive information booklet includes operating instructions for all the apartment’s appliances as well as local information and emergency numbers.

There’s even a yoga mat if you need a good stretch after a long flight. We’ve included everything you need to feel right at home in the world’s most beautiful city.

The neighborhood:

This Parisian arrondissement has been called Eleventh Heaven. In every direction you’ll find galleries and museums, cafés and restaurants, bars and shopping. Staying in this little residential enclave will make you feel like a real Parisian—close enough to everything, yet just far enough from the tourist traps.

Paris’ biggest open-air fresh market is a few blocks towards the Bastille every Sunday and Thursday morning. The beautiful “bobo” Canal St Martin (short for bourgeois-bohemian) is just a few blocks in the other direction. The ancient Marais and trendy Oberkampf are even closer. Three metro lines (#5, #8, #9) are within 2 blocks: St Ambroise, Oberkampf, Richard Lenoir and St Sébastien-Froissart, as well as with several bus lines.

    • An amazing and cozy place to stay in every way. I especially loved the collection of guidebooks and exquisite music collection to set the mood of staying in Paris. Close to the heart of the city, easy metro stop at Richard Lenoir, Franprix supermarket across the Boulevard Voltaire. Indeed the world's nicest bed ever to sleep on, and loved the chandelier! Shower and washer worked great, the kitchen setup was fantastic and efficient. Very spacious for a Paris apartment, the views are great and it was really quiet, too. Wifi worked flawlessly, and I helped my son learn a little French by watching Woody Allen's "Take the Money and Run" en français on DVD. We can't wait to come back and stay again at Joan and Dan's amazing flat.

    • Look no further on your computer or in a travel book to decide now..this is the only place to stay in Paris. I go often to Paris & stay only here. The flat is large. THe floors are beautiful. THe foyer is elegant. THe toilet room is separate for the very large shower/laundry room. The kitchen inspires you to cook Julia Child or microwave something prepared. THe bedroom linens & bed are top of the line. Joan & Phillip are so helpful. THe neighborhood is terrific. Both the neighborhood & the building is totally secure. My daughter who studies at Science Po lives also in the 11th district & we feel very comfortable that she is safe to walk home at home to her own apt. even around 11:00pm-midnight. Nearby Rue de Lappe appears to be a favorite late night spot; again within walking distances after the metro shuts down. Email me if you have any further questions about this flat or the location; I'd be glad to respond.

    • During our stay in this lovely apartment, we felt like locals rather than tourists on holiday in Paris. The location is great – situated on a very conveniently located but quiet and picturesque boulevard. The apartment is light and airy with a very comfortable bed, and laundry and kitchen facilities which were perfect for our needs. Joan was extremely helpful in the planning stages and even pre-booked a couple of restaurants for us. We also tried a few others on her recommended list and were never disappointed. If we are lucky enough to return to Paris, we will certainly stay here again Marie and Ross Dalgleish Sydney, Australia

    • We loved this apartment---it's spacious, airy, open and it's in a perfect location close to all the major sites, yet in a quiet neighborhood, full of great restaurants and bakeries. We especially loved being able to lock our bicycles in the courtyard shed--it made using our bikes in Paris so easy. (Although next time, if I was only going to be in Paris--as opposed to taking my bike all over France-- I'd leave my bike at home and use the terrific Paris rent-a-bike system, which has a rack of bicycles just a block away from the apartment.) Joan is a great host. I'd recommend this apartment to any one. Myself, I don't think I'll ever stay in a Paris hotel again. Apartment rental is the way to go and this apartment was especially lovely.

    • What a find! We really enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable apartment and would do it again without question. The location is ideal. We felt like we were a bit off the beaten path yet close enough to everything (or at least a metro stop that could take us there) we wanted to see and do. We felt we had a window into daily Parisian life that a hotel can't offer. A special bonus was the owner's own enthusiasm for Paris. Joan made it straightforward and easy to arrange our stay. She provides maps as well as an abundance of neighborhood / local info for her guests to enjoy the Paris she so clearly adores. -Merci beaucoup Joan!

    • Bright, spacious, sparkling clean with lovely furnishings. Beautiful, quiet building and lots of windows. Super comfy bed. Our 5-yr old son slept on the hide-a-bed with no complaints and loved going up and down in the old elevator. Free wifi was super-duper to have. No use of dryer, but hang drying racks were perfect and clothes were dry in 24 hrs. I have now installed the same drying racks in my home! Owner and manager both super accommodating and available. Superb location!

    • This spacious and convenient apartment near the Bastille suited our needs exactly. Especially appreciated was the telephone and internet provided free of charge. The owner and manager went out of their way to anticipate and help solve the little problems that crop up on every travel experience. The information provided by the owner was invaluable in enjoying our stay.

    • I've just spent a great week in Paris. The apartment was spotless, roomy, well equipped and well situated. The bedroom faces a quiet street and the bed was just right for an aching back. A short walk to the heart of the Marais and close to three Metro stations. And, one of the public bicycle stations is just steps from the front door! The wifi and all of the appliances worked perfectly and detailed instructions were provided for everything. The apartment manager was extremely patient when my flights were delayed and very helpful when my luggage was lost. No problems and no complaints. I'm hoping to make it back soon.

    • We stayed in this apartment in early May 2009. We felt we were really fortunate to have discovered this property. First, while the square footage was not large in the listing, it was a LOT larger that what we were both expecting. Actually it was really spacious. The place was in close to immaculate condition with nice paint, beautiful old wood floors, nice tall ceilings, some nice furniture, anything you could want. Everything worked, appliances were new, the internet wireless connection was a great benefit. It just had a great 'feel' to it. Our home away from home. The neighborhood is wonderful; plenty of cafes, bistros, stores, post office, metro, etc...everything you need to make your stay just perfect. The street outside, Richard Lenoir, has a wonderful park going right through the middle of it that is beautiful, where children play, or men play bowls, or open air markets sell all kinds of fresh wonderful things for the kitchen. The building it is in is attractive, secure, and quiet. Easy to come & go as you please. The 3rd floor allowed us to open our windows on both sides for cross ventilation at night. With a nice neighborhood, it was very quiet. One little thing was the stereo. I could hook up my iPod, but there was a stack of MP3 CDs there that just had great music on them. To put one of those on, while we prepared breakfast in the morning with wonderfully fresh eggs & fruits from the market, and, of course, great coffee, just made the start to everyday just perfect. We thought about what something like this would cost in a hotel - a suite of rooms with a kitchen. There was no comparison. This has to be one of the best places we have ever had to stay in (period!). So much better than a hotel. So much more a part of the real life of Paris. It was just a treasure.
