The opportunity to live like a local

Guest: Joanne (Vermont)
Date of Stay: 04/20/12 Review Submitted: 04/29/12

We loved the apartment and the neighborhood. It was simply furnished, very comfortable, and just the right amount of noise - good windows that shut out most everything, but a dim hum that made you aware you were in a major city. In every direction there are great streets to explore - boulangeries, patissieres, poissonneries, cafes. Great people watching - very diverse neighborhood age-wise, race wise, etc. And very few tourists. Yet walking distance to other neighborhoods - the Bastille, the Marais, and convenient to the Metro. Joan was great to deal with and I particularly appreciated her restaurant recommendations. The apartment has many guidebooks and other useful information. I was here with my husband - perfect size for two people.

Quite simply one of the nicest VRBO experiences we've had. My wife and I have rented from VRBO at least a dozen times over the past few years and have experienced a wide range of amenities and services. Joan's apartment is nice and clean with everything you need, and the location is safe and convenient. Where she really set's herself apart is the thorough preparation for her renters and her follow-through in seeing that you really enjoy your time in Paris. The apartment came with a very thorough binder with instructions for everything, plus information on the neighborhood and what to do in Paris. We received detailed advise on everything from where to eat, what to do (don't miss the open market) and how to best exchange currency. I almost don't want to hype it up too much for fear that we wont be able to book it in the future, but Joan deserves it =) Easily one of our top 3 vacation renting experiences ever.

A comfortable home in Paris

Guest: DG (Knoxville, Tn.)
Date of Stay: 02/01/12 Review Submitted: 02/10/12

We stayed in the apartment during the coldest part of the winter. Warm and inviting would describe it well. The kitchen had a full sized refrigerator - a rarity in Paris apartments, and a nice stove and oven. The location is convenient to the Marais, the Bastille, and several train lines, and the neighborhood has some wonderful restaurants and cafes. The internet connection was fast and reliable, which was something that was important to us. We would definitely rent again if the apartment is available when we return to Paris.

THIS IS A SPACIOUS APARTMENT WHICH IS LOCATED CLOSE TO THE BASTILLE ANDTHE MARIAS . THE SUNDAY MARKET ON BLVD RICHARD LENIOR SHOULD NOTBE MISSED! JOAN WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND HER SUGGESTIONS FOR RESTAURANTS AND SHOPS IN THIS AREA CONTRIBUTED TO OUR WONDERFUL STAY. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THIS LOVELY APARTMENT AND LOOK FORWARD TO A RETURN VISIT.

Late Fall Tranquility at Le Croisement: Live Like a Lucky Parisian

Guest: Paris je t'aime (Amherst, NH, USA)
Date of Stay: 10/22/11 Review Submitted: 12/29/11

Simply put, of all the vacation apartments my husband and I have rented, this is by far the best we have ever stayed in -- anywhere and at any price. There's not a lot I can add to the many reviews you can read here. This apartment has everything you need to make your visit to Paris the most memorable -- right down to one of those sticky-paper lint removers that's so essential if you, like most Parisians, wear black. From your first cup of coffee in the morning to your last glass of wine before heading off to sleep in a truly comfortable bed -- you couldn't ask for more. As the days got increasingly colder and shorter in the late fall, we appreciated the windows that let in light from both sides of the apartment. For those who like to explore Paris on foot, you're in the best location for walks to Pere Lechaise (cemetary), Viaduc of the Arts (walkway on a former elevated rail track) all the way to Bois de Vincennes, a Sunday stroll up Canal St Martin when the road is closed to cars -- just to name a very few. Paris is the ultimate walking city, but if you need a break there's always a metro or bus available to take you back "home." If you've always wanted to rent an apartment in Paris but were a little apprehensive, this is the apartment for you. Joan (owner) makes the entire process easy and straightforward. Phillippe (local manager) is there on your arrival to answer any questions you might have about the apartment. Everything you need is available within 2 blocks: wine, flowers, at least 7 bread bakeries with excellent baguettes, hair salons, dry cleaner, hardware, small grocery stores, big supermarkets, post office with extremely helpful personnel, banks with ATMs -- and there are 2 open air markets (Tuesday and Friday for the Popincourt market day) and Thursday and Sunday for the big Richard Lenoir (aka Bastille) market. Take another look at the pictures, read the description of the amenities (reliable WiFi and Internet access a real plus, excellent radio, a kitchen made for cooking) and the reviews. If Paris is in your plans for 2012, this apartment is for you.

Our stay at Le Croisement in late September, 2011

Guest: Connie (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 09/28/11 Review Submitted: 10/22/11

A friend and I recently rented this apartment for a week's stay in Paris. We found it to be very clean, conveniently located and stocked with all sorts of useful tourist information, including maps, guidebooks, and restaurant recommendations. Joan was very helpful from the time we contacted her, offering suggestions, useful apps and all the information we needed for a pleasant stay. Given that it was unseasonably warm, we were relieved to find that there was a fan in the apartment. The apartment is within easy walking distance of the Bastille and the Marais and there is a metro station just a block away. Don's miss the market on Thursday and Sunday! I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a "home away from home" in Paris.

The Paris apartment was excellently located, Close to delightful restaurants and the markets. Metro stations were a short stroll away. Joan was extremely helpful with lots of local knowledge and tips. The taxi she ordered for us was waiting on time to take us to the station to catch our train to Milan. The apartment was charmingly decorated with photos of Paris and ideal for the two of us as a base in Paris. We certainly hope to return some day. Best wishes.

My daughter and I stayed at Joan's apartment the end of June 2011. I have put off writing a review because I know we will return one day and I didn't want the apartment to be unavailable for us! It was perfect in every way; the location, the cleanliness and decor surpassed all of our expectations. We were lucky and Joan was there during our visit and she gave us great information about the markets, restaurants and other activities going on in Paris. Joan is such a delight and so very helpful before and during our trip. Staying in her apartment because It made us feel like true Parisians! We will be returning Paris and staying at this lovely home again.

Date of Stay: 06/03/11 Review Submitted: 07/05/11

We recently stayed for 8 nights in this apartment. Having previously stayed in Marais, we were looking for an area that was a little less touristy but with access to this general area of Paris. We enjoyed our stay very much, with three metro stations close by, plenty of small restaurants and supermarkets, walking distance to local market, very secure and quiet. Wi fi was a real bonus and generally the apartment is very thoughtfully equipped. Particularly liked large windows/doors that allowed cross ventilation. We were a party of three and that was fine. The only thing that I would suggest is another sofa/armchair in living room (especially for more than 2 people staying). The owner was more than forthcoming with local information and assistance and on site help was readily available. I would certainly recommend this apartment as a base in the most exciting city in the world!

Our two week stay in the 11th arrondisement

Guest: Lynn (San Francisco, CA, US)
Date of Stay: 05/04/11 Review Submitted: 05/22/11

My husband and I were very pleased with the apartment. Joan and the apartment managers were extremely helpful with recommendations and making us feel immediately at home when we arrived. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and all the amenities were available. It was very easy to get anything we needed in the neighborhood and we were especially delighted with the wonderful recommendations for nearby restaurants and the twice-weekly open air market where we bought many wonderful cheeses, bread, wine, and everything else to make great meals. Our last evening meal at the Petit Marche in the Maris was especially memorable and we also really appreciated the place mats of the Metro station which helped us learn all the lines in the system! A wonderful place we found that we would recommend for gifts is a small shop on Rue de la Folie Mericourt (parallel to Richard Lenoir near Blvd Voltaire) called Puzzles Michele Wilson. There are many unique and beautiful wooden puzzles that make lovely gifts. We would highly recommend this apartment and arrondisement to others.

My boyfriend and I stayed in Joan's lovely apartment in the 11th in Feb. 2011. We had a wonderful stay, Joan was helpful throughout the process (and her recommendations are superb). Upon arrival, Phillipe made us feel comfortable with the space right away. The size and facilities cannot be beat and the location makes you feel like you are actually living in Paris (not just a tourist). Apartment has wonderful market right nearby and proximity to the Marais area is a huge plus. Only problem with our stay was that now we can't wait to go back. Highly, highly recommended!!

Paris in the autumn

Guest: Monet Fan (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 11/11/10 Review Submitted: 11/21/10

My friend and I stayed at the apartment for 5 nights in November. We found it fully functional, clean, comfortable for two and conveniently located. A nice feature was the ability to close off the living room where one of us slept thus providing privacy and quiet for us both. Joan was very helpful in providing information about the neighborhood and very responsive to any questions we posed. The street market near Bastille on Thursday and Sunday and the one toward Oberkampf on Friday were lots of fun. The Marais is easily reached on foot and despite light rain we were able to walk many places. Restaurants in the neighborhood were good and Joan has many suggestions but favorites were farther afield and include Les Bouquinistes for lunch where the set menu is a good value, the dining room is elegant and the service friendly. Another favorite was Mon Vieil Ami on the Ile St. Louis where the plat du jour is a bargain and closer to home for traditional bistro food, Cafe de Musees in the Marais. A main reason for our visit was to see the Monet exhibition but when that ends we'd recommend visiting the Orangerie where the water lillies are premanently housed. A couple of comfortable arm chairs in the living room would have been a welcome addition. All in all this is a good apartment in an interesting, transitional neighborhood with convenient access to the rest of the city and Joan is wonderfully helpful.

Date of Stay: 10/20/10 Review Submitted: 11/12/10

My husband and I normally rent an apartment when we travel to Europe. While we have had very good experiences, this apartment ranks at the top of our list. The location is great. There are many charming reasonably priced restaurants serving delicious food within walking distance. The apartment is bright, roomy, clean and quiet. The bed is comfy, WiFi is dependable, and the neighbors are friendly. The owner, Joan, is very helpful and accommodating. The apartment manager, Philippe, is very pleasant. We felt reassured that he would be responsive to any problems, but everything worked perfectly during our 10 day stay. Thanks Joan and Philippe!

A Charming and Immaculate Home Away from Home in Paris

Date of Stay: 10/04/10 Review Submitted: 10/19/10

We couldn't have asked for a better location, a more responsive and accommodating host, or an apartment as completely outfitted as this one. We thoroughly enjoyed being part of a Paris neighborhood yet so conveniently close to the Metro and within walking distance of several of our key destinations. Joan was attentive to our every need prior to departure, offering wonderful but budget-friendly restaurant and shopping suggestions. (Don't miss Candide just minutes away on Voltaire for fabulous breads and pastries or the shops on Rue de Bretagne, within easy walking distance.) Coming "home" each night after full days of walking and sightseeing was something we looked forward to. Listening to one of Joan's many CDs, opening a bottle of wine, reading through her excellent library of guide books and comparing notes, was a great way to decompress. We spent 9 nights at 89 Boulevard Richard Lenoir and hope to return again some day.

>>This was the first time to Paris. We have traveled quite a bit the last few years and almost always rent apartments for our stays. This is probably the best apartment we have stayed in. Very clean and homey, very well equipped. It is also very easy to travel to from the airport by the metro. Joan is a wonderful host and makes sure all your needs are met. She also is a wealth of information in terms of things to do. The neighborhood is wonderful, you do not need to walk far for markets, bakeries, etc. We loved it! -DeeDee McDonald, Boston, Mass

My wife and I stayed for 4 days in early February of 2010. A very nice apartment tastefully decorated and well maintained. It is an easy walk to the City Center and Notre Dame. We usually walked downtown and took a cab or the Metro back in the evenings. There is a nice music collection in the Apartment, friendly staff and neighbors. Small market across the street, reasonably priced for essentials along with several good restaurants nearby. Enjoy!

My father and I stayed at this apartment and had an amazing time. The apartment was quite spacious, very clean and visitor friendly. Each room was decorated and had a Parisian feel. It was a great location from which we walked to the river, the opera house and enjoyed a walk to a great flea market on Sunday! Joan was great and accommodating. It was easy to get in touch with her and she made sure our stay was comfortable and pleasant. The apartment was well equipped with many guides to make our way around Paris easier. We stayed six nights and were ready to return to Paris before we even left! I highly recommend this aparment if you want to have an amazing Parisian experience!

An amazing and cozy place to stay in every way. I especially loved the collection of guidebooks and exquisite music collection to set the mood of staying in Paris. Close to the heart of the city, easy metro stop at Richard Lenoir, Franprix supermarket across the Boulevard Voltaire. Indeed the world's nicest bed ever to sleep on, and loved the chandelier! Shower and washer worked great, the kitchen setup was fantastic and efficient. Very spacious for a Paris apartment, the views are great and it was really quiet, too. Wifi worked flawlessly, and I helped my son learn a little French by watching Woody Allen's "Take the Money and Run" en français on DVD. We can't wait to come back and stay again at Joan and Dan's amazing flat.

Look no further on your computer or in a travel book to decide now..this is the only place to stay in Paris. I go often to Paris & stay only here. The flat is large. THe floors are beautiful. THe foyer is elegant. THe toilet room is separate for the very large shower/laundry room. The kitchen inspires you to cook Julia Child or microwave something prepared. THe bedroom linens & bed are top of the line. Joan & Phillip are so helpful. THe neighborhood is terrific. Both the neighborhood & the building is totally secure. My daughter who studies at Science Po lives also in the 11th district & we feel very comfortable that she is safe to walk home at home to her own apt. even around 11:00pm-midnight. Nearby Rue de Lappe appears to be a favorite late night spot; again within walking distances after the metro shuts down. Email me if you have any further questions about this flat or the location; I'd be glad to respond.

We loved this apartment---it's spacious, airy, open and it's in a perfect location close to all the major sites, yet in a quiet neighborhood, full of great restaurants and bakeries. We especially loved being able to lock our bicycles in the courtyard shed--it made using our bikes in Paris so easy. (Although next time, if I was only going to be in Paris--as opposed to taking my bike all over France-- I'd leave my bike at home and use the terrific Paris rent-a-bike system, which has a rack of bicycles just a block away from the apartment.) Joan is a great host. I'd recommend this apartment to any one. Myself, I don't think I'll ever stay in a Paris hotel again. Apartment rental is the way to go and this apartment was especially lovely.

What a find! We really enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable apartment and would do it again without question. The location is ideal. We felt like we were a bit off the beaten path yet close enough to everything (or at least a metro stop that could take us there) we wanted to see and do. We felt we had a window into daily Parisian life that a hotel can't offer. A special bonus was the owner's own enthusiasm for Paris. Joan made it straightforward and easy to arrange our stay. She provides maps as well as an abundance of neighborhood / local info for her guests to enjoy the Paris she so clearly adores. -Merci beaucoup Joan!

Bright, spacious, sparkling clean with lovely furnishings. Beautiful, quiet building and lots of windows. Super comfy bed. Our 5-yr old son slept on the hide-a-bed with no complaints and loved going up and down in the old elevator. Free wifi was super-duper to have. No use of dryer, but hang drying racks were perfect and clothes were dry in 24 hrs. I have now installed the same drying racks in my home! Owner and manager both super accommodating and available. I've just spent a great week in Paris. The apartment was spotless, roomy, well equipped and well situated. The bedroom faces a quiet street and the bed was just right for an aching back. A short walk to the heart of the Marais and close to three Metro stations. And, one of the public bicycle stations is just steps from the front door! The wifi and all of the appliances worked perfectly and detailed instructions were provided for everything. The apartment manager was extremely patient when my flights were delayed and very helpful when my luggage was lost. No problems and no complaints. I'm hoping to make it back soon.

We stayed in this apartment in early May 2009. We felt we were really fortunate to have discovered this property. First, while the square footage was not large in the listing, it was a LOT larger that what we were both expecting. Actually it was really spacious. The place was in close to immaculate condition with nice paint, beautiful old wood floors, nice tall ceilings, some nice furniture, anything you could want. Everything worked, appliances were new, the internet wireless connection was a great benefit. It just had a great 'feel' to it. Our home away from home. The neighborhood is wonderful; plenty of cafes, bistros, stores, post office, metro, etc...everything you need to make your stay just perfect. The street outside, Richard Lenoir, has a wonderful park going right through the middle of it that is beautiful, where children play, or men play bowls, or open air markets sell all kinds of fresh wonderful things for the kitchen. The building it is in is attractive, secure, and quiet. Easy to come & go as you please. The 3rd floor allowed us to open our windows on both sides for cross ventilation at night. With a nice neighborhood, it was very quiet. One little thing was the stereo. I could hook up my iPod, but there was a stack of MP3 CDs there that just had great music on them. To put one of those on, while we prepared breakfast in the morning with wonderfully fresh eggs & fruits from the market, and, of course, great coffee, just made the start to everyday just perfect. We thought about what something like this would cost in a hotel - a suite of rooms with a kitchen. There was no comparison. This has to be one of the best places we have ever had to stay in (period!). So much better than a hotel. So much more a part of the real life of Paris. It was just a treasure.

My husband & I, between us, have visited Paris over 15 times and have always stayed in hotels. After enjoying this wonderful apartment, we will probably never stay in another hotel. For the cost of a tiny hotel room, we got so much for for the money: space, comfort, privacy, not to mention the luxury of having morning coffee in your jammies. A first class experience!

We had an absolutely terrific time in Paris and our stay was made that much better because we found this apartment. We were apprehensive at first about whether it would be big enough for the four members of our family, or have enough conveniences, but we were thrilled that we went ahead and booked it. Not only was it far roomier than we imagined, it had charm and virtually every convenience we could have wanted or needed. Plus the location was perfect for both easy access to the Metro and nearby markets, the Bastille, and other great sites. It really is the way to visit Paris and we wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

We had a great stay at your apt. in Paris. It was wonderful. We have stayed in many furnished lodgings in the past and your place was perfectly set up. It was warm and welcoming, tasteful and personable, there was everything we needed, yet we never felt we were in "someone else's place". The location of the apt. is ideal, the proximity of the wonderful market, health-food store, bakeries etc. made it very easy to enjoy ourselves, keep our children happy and stay within budget. We stayed in the winter and had a couple of cold days, but the apt. was cosy and if anything a bit overheated. What a charming and wonderful place!

We had the pleasure of spending 12 nights in this wonderfully quiet little haven in the city. When we first arrived, I was surprised at how many charming amenities it offered and at the spaciousness it provided. The charm of the kitchen and the close proximity of the famous French open-air markets gave us the feeling we were actually "living" in Paris verses "visiting". And, the double-gated private courtyard entry allowed us to feel safe and secure during our stay. This was a totally different, far preferable experience for us from our previous hotel stays in Paris where we had to eat three meals out each day and had one room in which to spend our entire vacation!

What a wonderful way to enjoy Paris. A beautifully appointed apartment in a wonderful neighborhood. We felt like locals. The location is perfect. So close to the Marais, the Bastille and the Seine. Nothing like going to the incredible outdoor market (Sundays and Thursdays) just blocks from the apartment and loading up on fresh goodies and cooking up our own meals. Beats a hotel to pieces. This was our fourth trip to Paris and the apartment made it, by far, our favorite trip yet.

We have had the pleasure of staying at this apartment 3 times. It is a mecca in a bustling city - quiet, comfortable, simple/elegant amenities, the basic are perfect - great bed, sizable living space, well equipped kitchen and a really well kept building. The neighborhood is full of great places - Candid bakery has become our favorite in town and the natural food store is really good. If we could move in and stay forever, we would!

Our decision to stay here turned out to be one of the best decisions we made in planning this trip. Much more room than we could have ever afforded in a hotel, great neighborhood with easy Metro access, and many "homey" touches (such as umbrellas) provided by the owners. If we are lucky enough to return to Paris, this will be our choice for a place to stay.

Our family of four spent four wonderful nights in this lovely apartment. So much better than a hotel - more space, the convenience of a kitchen and washing machine, and the feeling of "living" in Paris. Not to mention that it compared favorably with the cost of a decent hotel. We took the Metro everywhere, returning one night after 11 p.m., and felt completely safe. We particularly enjoyed dinner at Cafe l'Industrie, recommended by the apartment's owner. One very minor quibble: It would have been nice to have a TV in the bedroom, so we could watch after the kids were asleep. Our family and friends have seen the photos of the apartment and all want to stay there the next time they visit Paris - as will we!

C'est merveilleux! I was lucky enough to stay a week in this well appointed apartment. It has all the amenities you could want -- from a yoga mat to a blender. Beyond that it is convenient to great neighborhood hangouts and the metro, making it ideal for enjoying the city and the sights. I highly recommend 89RL and look forward to returning.

I don't think I can express enough how much I enjoyed this apt. Not only is it convenient to everything, but the rooms are so spacious and the bed in particular is so incredibly comfortable. I slept like a baby every night of my trip, and I don't think I can say that about any other place I've stayed. Thanks for a wonderful find. I highly recommend it to anyone considering a trip to Paris. I know, we'll be back and staying in this great apartment. Thanks.

My husband and I stayed at this apartment for a week in August. We absolutely LOVED it. Roomy, easy to get places in Paris with Metro stops right around the corner. Such a great neighborhood! We watched the neighborhood husbands play bacchi (sp?) ball in the park on Richard Leniore. The moms with their babies in their strollers or on bikes. Lots of great cafes, little bars, stores, etc. close by. An easy walk to the Paris Cemetery and the open market was a gem. We want to come back and stay again!

So, really, everything was GREAT,Betsy y Raúl Outeda

We recently visited Paris for the first time. Not knowing the lay of the city very well, we accepted suggestions from friends to rent this apartment. Well, we couldn't have been more pleased. The apartment was welcoming and very chill. More than just the incredibly comfortable bed, the quaint bathroom with separate water closet, the kitchen with a window overlooking the courtyard below or the couch that embraced a weary traveler in it's positively perfect pillows...we truly enjoyed the neighborhood. All the essentials you need are close by...ATM, grocery, Metro stop (and a great open air market, depending on the day). It was the best launching point for our daily excursions around the city. Staying here made it feel as if we LIVED in Paris. And that we weren't just visiting. If someone wanted to buy us round-trip tickets, we'd happily stay in this apartment again.

For all who may choose this location for your stay in Paris: I found it's availability to great restaurants, shopping and the public transportation exactly what I wanted. The apartment was secure, clean, and well kept. I perferred it's quiet comfort to the traditional hotel stay. The kitchen was well equipt for my needs and the bedding was clean and comfortable. I will certainly return and would highly recommmend this location to others traveling to Paris.
