It seems only natural that Spencer Kimball turned to Google to find an architect to help him overhaul his New York City loft. Mr. Kimball, 35 years old, has been a software engineer at the search company for the past seven years.
In 2004, when he moved to Manhattan from San Francisco, he purchased a loft on the top floor of 682 Broadway, a former manufacturing building in New York's SoHo district. He wanted a home where he could do a lot of entertaining, and he saw potential in the space's size—3,000 square feet—and its panoramic views of the city.
Mr. Kimball planned to completely overhaul the space and was in the process of interviewing about 16 architects he found by typing words like "architect," "New York City" and "modern" into internet search engines when he spotted a Google advertisement for Jasmit Rangr.
They embarked upon a gut renovation.The curved walls came down, the plumbing and electrical wiring were redone and Brazilian cherry floors were installed. On the roof, Mr. Kimball put in a hot tub and an outdoor grill to create what Mr. Kimball describes as "an outdoor living room."
During the renovation, Mr. Kimball stayed in other apartments and with friends, and an idea for another project started to take shape.
"I mentioned to Jasmit that one day I'd like to design something very modern on the beach or near a beach," Mr. Kimball says. On a whim, the pair flew to the Dominican Republic in 2005 for a weekend and looked at properties. Mr. Kimball found 2.2 acres.
Realizing that he couldn't get down to the Dominican Republic very often, Mr. Kimball decided to take a cue from his neighbors there and turn his beach house into a villa to rent.
He and Mr. Rangr designed a home comprised of eight master-bedroom "suites" so that groups of up to 20 could stay there comfortably. They broke ground on "Casa Kimball" in January 2007 and work was completed in December 2008, introducing the newest is private luxury to the Dominican Republic.

Much more than we expected!! The staff made our visit the art of perfection. The meal were delicious and presentation was overboard. The place is well-kept and anything we desired was made available to us. The staff was professional, courteous, and very friendly. They all aimed to please us in every way. Enjoyed our visit; felt right at home; and did not want to depart. We will be back.

Dear Casa Kimball, and all the amazing staff, Thank you so much for allowing me the wedding of my dreams here at Casa Kimball! I fell in love with this place on our visit in May and the manager has helped to make sure that all our wedding guests felt the same way. Every detail of our wedding reception was better than I had been imagining all these months. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to- so I am happy it was mine! The luckiest bride and groom ever!

Dear Casa Kimball, You all have made any vacation after this difficult to beat! Outstanding, spectacular, and magical all come to mind. It is rare to be so comfortable in someone's home and yet we all are not ready to return to our own homes. Everyone made this surprise trip for my 30th on that I will never foget

Casa Kimball - a fabulous home, wonderful staff, spectacular view and a righteous pool - what could make for a better vacation? Every room with their balcony and ocean view, and the many outdoor living spaces, support the notion that design matters. Photos do not do the building and the natural landscape justice. The only way to describe our stay at Casa Kimball and the celebration of our wedding here is that it was MAGICAL. Although the house is absolutely spectacular, its the people here that bring it to life and make a stay at Casa Kimball an unforgettable experience.
