This property is by far the best beach house we have ever rented anywhere. It is better than the photos illusrtate. To get up in the morning, make a cup of coffee and walk out on that deck and see that view is a most incredible way to start the day. There is not one thing I would want to change about the house, the area, the beach, the snorkeling, the owners and their staff, etc. I snorkeled 4 or 5 times everyday, and saw many turtles and tropical fish. We did not go into town very often, as we knew immediately, the best place to be was at the house and beach, on rainbow patrol. We loved sitting at the beach at sunset. Plus the furnishings and the feel of the house was so perfect for the setting. Being there made all of us feel refreshed and stress free, a natural high. Thank you so much. We can't wait to go back. I would certainly recommend this property to a friend or relative.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks so much for that spectacular review, Woods! Guests really do love the house: the ambiance, the views and this incredible beach. We look forward to your next visit. Wishing you all the best ~ Marti and Joe

For weeks after returning from our trip to Kauai the soothing sound of the surf on Tunnels Beach played through my dreams. Sharing this beautiful home-away-from-home with extended family and enjoying the available hiking, snorkeling, shops and restaurants (especially Postcards) made this our most memorable and relaxing vacation ever! Morning coffee on the deck, cooking together in the large, user-friendly kitchen, visiting and doing puzzles in the comfortable living area, and having the luxury of solitary time in private suites... the house on Tunnels Beach provided everything needed for a dream vacation!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: A wonderful review from Morgan - thank you! This family took superb care of the house and were a pleasure to have as tenants. They were blown away by the house, the beautiful beach - and by the Na Pali trailhead just down the road!

This beautiful home, which we know as the Bali Hai House, is located at the best spot on one of the best beaches on earth. Our days began with early morning snorkeling among turtles and beautiful, colorful fish. We were told by a fellow snorkeler that Tunnels is the second best snorkeling beach in the world. We were overjoyed to spend our days at the beach, with our lovely house right behind us - convenient for taking breaks and getting refreshments. There are perfect swimming spots right in front of the house, as well as more nearby. You can walk along the beach to Ke'e beach from this house, and in the other direction all the way to the Hanalei Colony Resort. The house is both comfortable and replete with modern conveniences; it was spotless upon our arrival. The master bedroom, bath and closet are fabulous. The kitchen is fully loaded, with state of the art appliances. We ate meals out on the deck - beautiful at all times of day and night. Caretakers are available for any little need, but completely unobtrusive. Location is secluded yet convenient. Most excellent!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We've stayed at this home a few times, and words cannot express the beauty of the beach and surroundings. It is a setting that no one could ever forget. The home itself is spacious and simple, with beautiful woodwork and architecture. When you wake up and look out at the sparkling blue bay, it takes your breath away.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our family eagerly anticipates vacationing at this most beautiful home each year. The house includes so many amenities in addition to being on the most prime property. It is impeccably maintained and the owners fulfill any request. Within minutes, there is the fabulous and majestic hiking trail and of course one of the best snorkeling beaches in the world is outside your back door. The nearby resteraunts have every type of menu and Postcards Cafe's has the ambience and dinners not to be missed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I, accompanied by my husband's brother and his wife, have been coming to this beautiful beach home every May for over ten years. The all-wood home is absolutely beautiful as to layout, decor and proximity to one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawai'i. The listing photos reflect only minimally the pristine appearance and amenities offered at Taylor II. Clean and well-maintained with the owners and caretakers adjacent to respond to questions, a carefree, restful stay is assured. Choosing to visit Kaua'i, the Garden Isle, is a good decision as this island is relatively less congested and "touristy" than the other major three islands (the Big Island of Hawai'i, Oahu and Maui). Sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, para-sailing and kayaking in the ocean a stone's throw from the front hedge of the property are never-ending beach activities. Hiking the Na Pali trail to a nearby waterfall or beyond yields sights of flora and fauna in lush abundance. Sightseeing to take in the natural wonders such as Waimea Canyon is a must but even more wondrous is a helicopter ride to take you to the face of Mt. Waialeale and to almost touch the cascading waterfalls. Other activities can be found in "101 Things to Do on Kaua'i", a copy of which can be picked up upon landing at Lihu'e Airport or thoughtfully provided at the rental. Quiet time for us is obtaining a DVD rental and seeing it via a stupendous home theater system. A fabulous dinner is assured at the No. 1 restaurant on the North Shore at Hanalei, Postcards. You will not taste fresh island fish prepared so deliciously anywhere else. Maitais during happy hour at Calypso Restaurant in Hanalei prior to dinner at Postcards is a fine start to an evening of gustatory delight. There is no question but that we recommend wholeheartedly and unreservedly a memorable vacation stay at the Bali Hai beach home listed above.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Our stay in this beautiful home was the highlight of our vacation lives. My husband and I, seniors by far, wanted privacy and access to the famous Tunnels Beach. We had heard it was one of the top ten beaches in the world. It defies my ability to put into words the amazing experiences we had with such beauty. Whether watching the sunset with chairs on the sand or simply sitting on the beautiful veranda and seeing "Bali Hi" right there...what an overwhelming joy it was. This was the dream location we had always wanted. The home is also exquisitly tasteful, large, and elegantly appointed...Comfort and style throughout. The owners of this home are extremely friendly and helpful. They are present in every way, unless you want to be left alone to simply relax. As for where to eat, this delightful couple also owns the best restaurant in town: Postcards. We had amazing appetizers and fresh fish there several times during our stay. We recommend this exact holiday to all our friends and family, and may you, too, experience such a thrill.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Brenda, thank you for the wonderful review! It was a delight for us to spend a little time with you and Al.

Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: This house was one of very few residences on Tunnels Beach (Makua Beach) when we bought it in 1986, as a vacation home. We moved to Kauai permanently in 1992 - TWO WEEKS before the powerful Hurricane Iniki destroyed our home and many others. We began rebuilding a few years later. The beautiful new house was completed, and became a rental, in 1998. We have had amazing tenants and many, many repeat visitors. Everyone loves the house and its incredible location.
