Windswept -- aptly named -- faces a quiet, working windmill built in 1746, which grinds corn. No other Nantucket house has such fantastic views of this historic windmill. Windswept sits on one acre high atop Mill Hill, one of Nantucket's highest points. It is in Nantucket Town's Old Historic District overlooking town, the ocean, harbor, the bay and woods. It is a 10-minute delightful walk to Main Street's shops, restaurants and theaters.
Jetties, Children's, Francis Street and Steps beaches are nearby. Windswept is only a two-minute walk to the Island-wide shuttle stop and bike paths. Because of its superb location--the Island's best--no car is necessary, but Windswept has two off-street parking spaces at the end of a long, winding driveway. There from tall and deep blackberry bushes, tenants pick juicy, plump blackberries for pies, cakes and muffins or to eat instantly.
Windswept has a wraparound porch, partially enclosed and lighted, with teak Adirondack chairs, ottomans, two picnic tables, large front and back yards for games and family sports tournaments (Windswept has croquet, badminton and volleyball), an enclosed hot/cold after-swim outdoor shower with large dressing area, charcoal grill, beach towels and beach chairs that can be worn on the back to carry a cooler for your day at the beach and complimentary WiFi.
Windswept has an eat-in kitchen, large pantry, gigantic living room, a separate dining room, Oriental rugs, hardwood floors, fireplace, books, board games and fresh flowers.
This magnificent home has three bedrooms of varying sizes on the second floor. The mammoth master bedroom has bookshelves, a reading area and large cable TV. The lower level, aboveground bedroom has wall-to-wall carpeting, its own exit, and a full bathroom. Children vie with each other to stay here.
The caretaker lives nearby and responds immediately to ensure tenants' enjoyment of the Island and this magnificent home. She greets guests to give them Nantucket literature, maps and restaurant guide. For a fee, she will buy groceries and supplies to stock the refrigerator before tenants' arrival.
For multigenerational family reunions, Windswept is available too with our nearby secluded, cheery, air-conditioned one-bedroom house (see #22625). This family compound in Nantucket Town atop Mill Hill sleeps 12. |
