Cheerful, romantic, secluded and air-conditioned In the Lee is on a hill, one of the Island's highest points, in Nantucket Town's Old Historic District. It faces a quiet, working windmill built in 1746, which grinds corn. No other Nantucket house has a better view of this historic windmill, the country's longest continuously operating windmill.
This home is a 10-minute delightful walk to Main Street's shops, restaurants, movie and live theaters, post office, drug stores, grocery stores and the town's several beaches. It is only a two-minute walk to the Island-wide shuttle bus stop and bike paths. With its superb location--Nantucket's best--no car is necessary, but In the Lee has two off-street parking spaces at the end of the long, winding driveway.
Families can also enjoy In the Lee with our nearby magnificent four-bedroom house for multigenerational reunions (see listing #22624). Together the two houses are a family compound high atop Mill Hill that sleeps 12.
This tucked-away home has a tile floor and hand-hooked hand-dyed wool rugs with Nantucket nautical and floral themes, a large yard with flowers, plants and trees, an outdoor enclosed hot/cold after-swim shower, and a brick patio in the rear with a large teak table and four teak chairs. Guests cook succulent Nantucket scallops there on the charcoal grill. From tall and deep blackberry bushes on the long, winding driveway, they pick juicy, plump berries for pies, cakes, and muffins or to eat instantly.
The caretaker, a Nantucket native, lives a short distance away and responds immediately to tenants to ensure their enjoyment of the Island and this secluded home. She greets guests to give them Nantucket literature and maps. For a fee, she will shop for groceries and supplies to stock the refrigerator before tenants' arrival. |
