The photos don't do the property justice. Great quality finishes. Only suggestion, it gets pretty cold upcountry. The cottage could use a heater or at least an area rug in front of the sofa.

If you are looking for somewhere that's a bit quieter and cooler away from the beach then this is a great place to stay. Makawao is located 'upcountry' which basically means farmland but is beautiful and green, very relaxing and away from the crowds. We found the property well kept, the owners Siobhan and Geoff very helpful and nice to get away to somewhere different after a day at the beach. Would highly recommend this property and would have no hesitation in staying again.

We recently spent over 2 weeks at this property and couldn't have chosen a better location. The days were warm and bright, the nights were the perfect temperature- not too warm and a perfect breeze came through the windows. We saw deer in the front yard and heard owls in the neighboring eucalyptus forest. The kids loved it- they provided every beach toy imaginable and there was tons of room for them to run around. The interior of the house was beautifully appointed and we had everything we needed and more. Our last night we had a fabulous barbeque and we can't wait to come back!

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your beautiful home. It is so quiet and peaceful here. Maui is such a beautiful place. This is definitely our first trip of many to come. We were able to see the entire island while we were here and every place is so wonderful and extremely beautiful.

We've had a great time! Loved the easy access to Paia and Haleakala. Wonderful snorkel trip with so many whales year around. Enjoyed the fruit from your neighbor's stand, especially the tastiest limes ever. Thanks for providing a great base for our trip. Used the boogie boards nearly every day!

We were very glad that we could stay one night longer than planned so Johan had one more day to recover from back pain. He could not sit for a long time, so we stayed here most of the days. Very relaxing! The bed in the master room is very comfortable and this helps a lot. We loved the shower, the quietness and comfort of the house. This is the sixth house we rented in Hawaii and one of the best! Thanks.

Thank you or rather MAHALO for sharing your cottage with us. It was a great base for our outings to Hana and Maui Ocean Center and Iao Park. You have some great places to eat especially Casanovas and Mamas Fish House. It was a short stay in Maui but having your cottage to come home to each night was special. It's on for a 2 day taste of Kauai before returning to the snows of winter in Alberta, Canada. Mahalo!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We loved the comfy beds and interior of the home. We had everything we needed (and more). We loved the location- easy access to Haleakala and road to Hana. And Makawao- enjoyed Casanova's deli and pizzas. The trees and weather were a nice break from the rest of Maui. Aloha and howdy from San Antonio, TX!

Great peaceful cottage. We had a great time. If you do not feel like getting up early to go to the volcano for sunrise, go for the sunset, it is worth it. Great food at Milagros (Paia). The kids love Big Beach (huge waves!). Mahalo!

Mahalo for a most enjoyable vacation! We love this house, and I have to admit to being a little bit sad to leave it. Note to future guests- as you're venturing about Upcountry, be sure to stop at Grandmas's Coffee House in Keokea for coffee and delicious baked goods. The pineapple coconut cake is my favorite!

Amazing value! Very beautiful vacation rental, everything was perfect. We loved the secluded homey feel. Dakine Zipline is just up the road and they are awesome- must go see them! We also hiked and swam Twin Falls, snorkeled South of Makena, mile marker 14, Honolua Bay, Little Beach :) and stand up surfed at Launiopoko Park. We even found a rave party for the 4th of July along a cliffside! Thank you so much!

We had a wonderful time in your home. It's so serene and peaceful here. We loved listening to the birds and smelling the eucalyptus trees. The guava tree was perfect for snacking and making smoothies. The kids had a blast playing in the yard. My wife loved the upgrades in the home and I liked the beautiful stars and the sound of the rain on the roof.

We so much appreciate our stay in your cottage. This is our first visit to Maui and found this place ideal for us. So much better than squeezed into a cityish room surrounded by traffic! Although our family is represented here from Arizona and Colorado, I have a Connecticut connection- I lived in Mystic, CT from 1980-2001 (coincidence of course!) Leave by 8am for Hana! Later and the driver will be stressed out! If you don't make it to Hana- so what! It's the journey, not the destination! Thanks for the avocados. We ate them just before they went bad. A real treat! Mahalo!

A lovely cottage that we felt very much at home in. The quiet nights were so relaxing after a day around the island. So much to see and do here and the constant demographic changes gave us a feeling of being back home in the mountains of Western Washington. Road to Hana and back around the other side impressed us so much we did it twice. Never saw such clear water before as we did in Hana. Now we move on to the West Island. Will miss the spacious serenity of your cottage I'm sure. Thank you for allowing us to share our time here during this holiday season. Best Wishes and Merry Christmas!

This cottage is delightful and perfectly located for all us who love the breeze and the wind in the trees and the sounds of nature and livestock. The gentle sunrise and the stars so close, you can almost touch them! In the "cool of the day" you actually feel the presence of guiding spirits. Food at Pollis, Casanovas and Haliimaile General Store all were exceptional. We enjoyed being able to "cook in" and have simple breakfasts. Local produce "ono". Iao Valley Park was our discovery for this trip (we have been to Maui 8 times). Hana is our heart home and Sunrise Protea our favorite snack place. Protea angels are delightful gifts. Thankyou again- you are given much "Mahalo Nui Loa"

Just arrived from Oregon- first off I LOVE this guest book, it is gorgeous! I absolutely love the seting that your cottage is in- the smell of the eucalyptus. I cannot wait to meet all of your dogs and cats "what a paradise!" This is heaven to me, and I just got here! :) I met the neighbor horse today and have already laid in a supply of carrots for him (his owner said it was okay).... I passed the Canines For Independence property and am looing forward to stopping by there and introducing myself. I'll call them first. Well I am very excited about my visit, and I am already thinking about my next trip. I plan on being a regular here......:)

Mahalo for your beautiful cottage and land and the friendly visits by cats and the neighbor horse! It's been so wonderfully quiet under a sky full of stars. Lovely architecture. Great potential. Here are some places we enjoyed: Makawaos' General Store- great gourmet food and wine selection. Took trip to Grandmas Coffee House at Ulupalakua- Saturdays there is live Hawaiian music- coconut cake and coffee cake are great. Ono Gelato in Paia is world class. Take the back (south) road to Hana. We had private picnic lunches out there. Aloha- see you again sometime.

Thankyou for sharing your peaceful, quiet, fully equipped cottage with our family. Our 11 day stay here hads been relaxing when we are at the cottage- from the light rain in the morning and at night to the winds rushing through the trees and hearing the swishing sounds as you fall asleep. So many great activities to do such as horseback riding at Mendes Ranch, surfing at Lahaina, exploring Twin Falls, kayaking at Makena, parasailing at Lahaina, taking the road to Hana and stopping at the black sand beach, taking the trip up to Haleakala Crater, ziplining above Kula area, visiting the local Makawao eats like Pizza Fresh, Pollis and visiting the local library, Maui Ocean Cneter and the list goes on....but not enough time... Mahalo!

Mahalo for a beautiful place to rest our heads. Some advice for those who follow us: For sunrise at Haleakala, leave here at least an hour before sunrise (the parking lot fills up and you may not get a spot...leave 1 1/4- 1 1/2 hours) For great snorkelling, try Wailea Beach and Ahihi Cove (better than a Maui Ecotours kayak/snorkel we did) Make sure no one left an unwanted alarm on the clock! :) Cheers!

This is Brian- also from CT- take the road to Hana and watch sunrise from Haleakala but be sure to fill up on gas before you leave Makawao. There are no gas stations anywhere near either of those destinations- we ran out of gas at 9,000 ft at 6:00 am. Other than that- incredible- go to Big Beach- have the Obama Burger at the Paia Fish Market- be back soon as well!
