I do think the beach is walking distance, at least my kids and I would walk downtown and to the beach all the time. Polywog park has a community pool which all the kids go to in the summer. There are also tennis courts and a baseball field close on Valley/Ardmore and they have summer programs as well as daycare at the parks in all of Manhattan Beach, they do many activities, art, trips, etc.
