Wow what a beautiful home! The house has a lot of space for a large group and a great outdoor space for playing soccer, hiking, or just relaxing. My children loved the pool table and tire swing. I was disappointed in the the stove. It is older, one of the burners is crooked and the oven cooks very uneven but it is functional. There was everything (pans, utensils, platters, etc.) you need in the kitchen to prepare a Thanksgiving feast. We noticed that maybe the owner needs to hire a new housekeeper who pays attention to detail like dusting or orginizing the shelves in the library. We didn't use any of the games at the home as the pieces were not in the boxes and were just shoved with the books and toys on the shelves. I was suprised to find it so disorganized. Also the fuseball table has a lot of missing pieces and had a broken leg. The bedrooms and bathrooms were set up nicely and had great linens. The view from the 3rd floor deck was amazing. We would definately vacation at the "Hampshire House" again. Thanks for sharing your vacation home with us!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

The minute we set foot in this house we loved it. Its rustic elegance has the flavor of a French chateau deep in the green heart of New Hampshire. Tall windows look out on expansive, well-tended lawns bordered by forest. The furnishings are delightful and un-fussy, the kitchen well-equipped, the beds very comfortable. In the quiet of the night you may hear an occasional owl. Activities are not far away-- hiking in Franconia Notch, miniature golf in Lincoln, etc.- but the main attraction is hanging out at the house, relaxing, reading, playing croquet, pool, or horseshoes, or taking walks in the immediate area. Thanks to the helpful, amiable owner for sharing this beautiful and special place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Chris, I can tell you right now with utter certainty that we'll be doing this again next year, and hope to again make this house "base camp". It has been one of the best vacations I've ever had. The first and second days we summited Mt. Cannon, and did the Arethusa Falls/Frankenstein loop. Everyone's legs were jelly on the third day, so we went to the Lost River caves and hung out in Woodstock afterward. We white water rafted on day four (which was stunningly cold, but SO much fun). Sunday was the best day of the entire vacation: we summited Mt. Lafayette. I wish I could have walked a bit of the ridge, but I wasn't prepared for the 50-miles-per-hour gusts and 40-degree weather. Greenleaf hut, by the way, makes AMAZING cinnamon oatmeal bread. In case, you know, you wanted to climb the mountain to get it. Totally worth every step. The views were too. Monday, we took it easy on the Greenley pond trail, then went on over to Lincoln and spent a ridiculous amount of money on mead, chocolate, cheese...and more mead. Today, the group split: class 1 river kayaking and Lonesome Lake trail. AMC must require their potential hires to be able to make phenomenal baked goods. Cheesecake brownies this time. I don't think the hike burned the calories in the ginormous slice I stuffed my face with. I can't believe it's almost over. Tonight, it's Bailiwick's and hopefully Bishop's for ice cream (waaaay better ice cream up north, by the way). I'm already planning our next trip: Mt. Washington and Franconia Ridge trail. Thank you so much for being part of this amazing vacation. The house itself, and the location were perfect. JessieDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

several things can be fixed... doors dont' close well (especially the bathroom doors). What is worst is that when we arrived (reaching at around 10:00pm on Fri night) there was NO heat in the house... temp in the inside thermostats was 48F ..fortunately it wasn't sub-zero temp outside ..else we would have frozen.. We tried calling the owner ..but he was unreachable .. We called the person in the local area he suggested we get in touch with for help in case he was unreachable ...only to find out that the guy had passed about a year ago!! ..OMG.... We were two families with 4 kids between us ...We bundled up and went to bed in the cold house the first night. The owner called us back in the morning ... He said the oil guys had come by just a couple of days earlier to fill the heating oil. What he speculated was that the tank had emptied out prior to that and the pilot flame had gone out... ..The heating guys came in around 10:30am that morning, relit the flame and phew we finally had some heat in the house......it was quite a harrowing experience though ... The driveway in front of the house was icy when we reached .. looks like the ice had been sitting for a while .. entering and exiting was pretty dangerous...we skidded a few times.. almost hurting ourselves ... Also ....when we opened one of the cabinet drawers .. we saw mice poop ... yikes!! .. the cleaning job hadn't been thorough .. the place has a lot of potential ..but unless the owner shows interest in maintaining it properly for the people renting the property ..not sure if we will ever go back and visit.Owner response: Yes, the oil did run out prior to the recent fill so the heat was not working. I received a call very late at night. The issue was resolved immediately. For the few hours that they did not have heat, the house was never under 50 degrees. I emailed and called the tenants immediately. I also offered them a free night stay to extend their trip or for another time. Given the late call, willingness to compensate for the inconvenience and the responsible turn around, I think the review is unprofessional and unwarranted. I have rented the home for many years. I have a professional cleaning lady who manages and cleans the house as if it were her own. In the seven years of ownership, i have never seen a mouse. We also procure a professional company for preventive maintenance. For seven years, we have used the same snow plower, who also sands the driveway when it is icy. As a matter of business, I have always attempted to be a responsive and helpful landlord. Every renter to date, less the present one, has found the home to be a warm, special getaway.

Absolutely wonderful holiday getaway in the White Mountains. While the photos could use a little updating for the outside of the home, the inside was just as we imagined it would be and the stay for the Thanksgiving holiday was excellent. Rustic wooden interior with plenty of furniture, little rooms to hide and read and views from all angles to surrounding mountains. With 13 people in the home and a big holiday meal to prepare went off without a hitch. Plenty of firewood provided and we kept the fireplaces going all day long keeping the house nice and toasty. Great big yard which was perfect after an 8 inch snowfall; providing small hills for sledding over the next 4 days. The rooms are spacious and bed are comfortable. The kitchen is big and while one stove is never enough for our family and all the side dishes we cooked, we made do. Cute picturesque downtown and not too far from a Wal-Mart 15 minutes in either direction for those last minute items. only knock in this technology age is the cell or internet reception which was pretty tough at times; but being up in the mountains was a huge surprise. Just to get local news and weather it would have been nice to be able to get on-line more regularly; although being out of touch was nice for a quiet weekend away. Overall, a perfect holiday trip. We would definitely come back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

It was a pleasure to deal with the owner, Chris. He was very available before and during the stay and gave excellent directions to the home and useful area information. It's clear that this is a treasured second home. The pictures are accurate. It's a spacious home with interesting architectural details and high end furnishings. It's large yet cozy. There are plenty of fireplaces and the owners have lots of firewood in the basement. The three floors allows privacy if needed. There are tons of board games, a pool table, a dartboard, a chess table, etc. I loved that there was no waiting for bathrooms given the 4.5 baths. However, the baths are also more of the historic charm/rustic type than modern luxury (sinks with separate faucets for hot and cold and no counter space). The grounds are large and there are beautiful views. This home would not be my first choice for downhill skiing, but it suited us -- we focused on enjoying the home and snowshoeing at Franconia Notch. We prepared several meals in the home, served at the large formal dining table. Though the kitchen is stocked with everything you need to prepare a meal. it is in need of several updates. The electric stove/oven is a dated and it's hard to get accurate temperatures for precise cooking. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would recommend the home if you're looking to "get away."Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

The house was wonderful. The pictures make it look newer . The property is amazing with spectaculor sunsets from the 3rd floor balcony. Plenty of room for a large party. The bed in the master bedroom is like sleeping on a cloud. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in . The bathrooms and kitchen need some updating.. If you like fireplaces they are eveywhere. We used many of them during our stay and it was very relaxing. My overall experience was very good all of my guests would agree.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

We loved this place! I have already recommended it to a number of friends. Perfect for a family reunion, ski outing or vacation in the White Mountains. Exceptionally well appointed in terms of accomodations and amenities, many of which seemed to be brand new (mattresses, linens, kitchen utensils, etc.). Clean & comfortable - plenty of room to move around, with lots to do for kids and adults alike. Thank you, Chris.Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.
