We stayed at the old mill for two wonderful weeks. I cannot express how tranquil the environment was! The mill and its accommodation was just right everything you could need and all clean and well presented. We were blessed by the arrival of two new leather settees which made evenings more comfortable still. The weather during our stay was just right for exploring by car, sitting in the grounds or for the more energetic... cycling - two of our party had brought cycles so on most days some or all of us went off to explore the surrounding villages and countryside. Mr. + Mrs Payot were extremely warm, helpful and kind - nothing was too much trouble. We visited local towns and cities but particularly enjoyed our visit to the vineyard belonging to Sylvain Bouhelier a producer of Cremant de Bourgogne in the village of Chaumont-le-Bois. Also worth the drive was the completely unspoilt hilltop village Flavigny which during our visit was sunbaked and beautify - lavender, geraniums, hollyhocks, plum trees. In Auxerre we ate at a restaurant opposite the market. The local bakery in Chatillon was brilliant for an early morning cycle to collect goodies for breakfast. Auchan - supermarket - was just a 10 minutes by car and stocked all the usual supermarket goods. The villagers we met and spoke to were extremely friendly so it made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommended if you don't want to be disturbed by anything other than a resident 'Mrs Chicken' who flew over the garden wall most days and who we all became quite fond of!!
