Location: Wilson, Jackson Hole Area, Wyoming, USA
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 2.5+ Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Little Big Sky is a rustic, bohemian rhapsody of a home, situated at the end of a dirt road in one of Jackson Hole’s hippest quarters and designed by the noted architectural firm of Jonathan Foote & Associates. Two simple connected buildings are crafted out of antique floors, reclaimed beams, weathered barn wood siding and red tin roofs that change the sound of rain to music.
The front entrance opens, it seems, right back to the outside: a wall of glass holds a breathtaking view of the Wyoming’s fabled Teton Pass and the enormous Glory Bowl. It is a fitting introduction to a house built to showcase the wilderness around it; the pinked mountaintops of sunset and the buttery light of morning are a daily revelation.
The Great Room fills one half of the house, where the living, dining and cooking areas share an airy expanse under a high vaulted ceiling. A wood-burning stove throws out great cheer and warmth. The kitchen is outfitted with every convenience – an ample pantry, a six-burner gas range, a pocket office, and inlaid cabinetry that contains unique serving pieces and elegant place settings.
There are two bedrooms at Little Big Sky, each with a private bathroom and stunning views. The master bedroom floats in a sea of windows on the second floor, while the guest room sits below. This part of the house was designed after a fire lookout tower, and indeed, it seems like you can see all of Wyoming from the king-size bed in the master bedroom.
The master bath is separated from the bedroom by a free-standing wall, and has a tub, separate shower and double sinks. A sliding glass door opens to a wonderful, north-facing deck. Downstairs, the guest bedroom has a deep king bed, whimsical art and windows that frame the Teton peaks, and a cozy den provide a comfortable place to relax in front of a flat screen TV on a comfortable sofa that can be converted to a queen bed....perfect for larger families.
Little Big Sky has the feel of a welcoming, well-appointed ski lodge: it is relaxed, supremely comfortable and has a great view of the slopes. Outside are decks, a picnic table, wooden lounge chairs. The house sits on one acre. From here you can strap on your snowshoes, skis or hiking boots and head out into the big adventure of Wyoming. And when civilization calls, fabulous downtown Jackson – with its restaurants, theatres, galleries, shops and nightlife – is just down the road.
