Thanks for another wonderful stay at Red Gate Cottage. Anne and I and our dog Smith thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will surely return next year during our spring break. We took full advantage of the hot tub and fireplaces, which made our mountain getaway all the more memorable - and magical. Asheville is a Shangri-La! You would have to be out of your mind NOT to enjoy this town. The food is amazing - I don't think we had one bad meal the entire time - and the wine bars are lovely and sophisticated. The River Arts District was fantastic - a beautiful day! All of these experiences were enjoyed in a beautiful, comfortable place to return to every night - Red Gate Cottage!

Many, many thanks for the use of Red Gate Cottage! We had an absolutely fantastic time, as did Fern, Selkie, and Frennie. It’s clear how much thought and care has been put into this place, and your excellent hospitality was manifest from the welcome cookies for all, to the wine, to the hot tub, to the deck, the two spots outside for having a fire, etc., etc.! We availed ourselves of everything! This is such a gorgeous area, with so much history, and my father, a Black Mountain College alum, especially enjoyed reminiscing as we traversed Asheville and its environs. We are anxious to return. Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the best, S, J, L, & M

This very cute cottage was warm and welcoming the moment we drove into the driveway. Upon entering the house, cookies and wine were there to greet us and It just got better from there. We loved the fireplace and a soak in the hot tub after hiking. Thank you Georgia for such a great place to stay.

My wife, Sandie, and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Red Gate Cottage. We had a wonderful time. The location was great with easy access to Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the beautiful surrounding areas in WNC. BBQ at the 12 Bones Smokehouse in the Arts District was a real treat. We also enjoyed a visit to the WNC Farmers Market where we were able to get some specialty items from WNC to enjoy while we were there and to take home. A trip over to nearby Chimney Rock was great. The mountain vistas were breathtaking. The real highlight of the trip was our visit to Biltmore at Christmas with our daughter and son-in-law who flew down for just that event. We would highly recommend a visit to Biltmore at Christmas with a stay at the Red Gate Cottage. Doesn't get any better than that. One of the primary reasons we chose the cottage was because it was pet friendly. Bailey had a great time exploring the yard and taking walks with us. We were truly appreciative of Georgia's hospitality. The Cottage was brightly lite and ready when we arrived with a bottle of wine and food there for us to start our celebration. We would love to return and enjoy the area and the cottage in a different season.

We discovered Red Gate while looking for places to go on our honeymoon. My husband is British and new to America so I wanted to find a place that offered beauty as well as lots of fun options for coffee shops, restaurants with a unique downtown vibe. Asheville was the perfect choice! We immediately felt at home at the Red Gate. Georgia was so kind & accommodating to us, leaving wine & cookies for us which was such a sweet gesture. The cottage was warm and peaceful and had tons of character - you can tell much thought was put into the construction & design of this special place. Location was great! Easy access to both downtown Asheville & the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you're wanting to stay in, there's a grocery store conveniently just down the road... we had a great time grilling out on the deck and cooking English-style breakfast in morning! This summer, my husband's family will coming over from England and joining up with us along with my parents and the 6 of us (with our 2 K-9 friends) will be creating new memories at the Red Gate once more! We're SO looking forward to it!

We had a wonderful week here and our dog Sierra loved having the yard and deck to romp in/on. We also enjoyed the rest of Asheville - the waterfalls hike in Dupont State Park was lovely and Asheville restaurants continue to be yummy. The artists in the Arts District also continue to be warm and welcoming. So we are leaving with a number of nice reminders of our time here. Many thanks...we're looking forward to our next trip here. Georgia, Just want to thank you so much for letting us enjoy your wonderful Red Gate Cottage. It is just as lovely as the pictures you see online. I loved that it was so secluded yet so very close to everything. We were always surprised that wherever we were going was only a few minutes away. Our doggies also had fun and loved their walks with the horses and cows to greet us. The Hot Tub was great as well as the porch! Such a lovely area. The cookies and wine were also appreciated after a long trip. Thanks again and we look forwarded to spending more time there. Mary Ann and Joe

Don and I had a wonderful time celebrating both of our birthdays at Red Gate Cottage. You have truly created a magical retreat and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We have never stayed anywhere before where there was so much thought about every detail and just loved sitting in the little grotto. Our dog Henry also had a great time exploring the yard. Thank you for the wine and delicious oatmeal cookies. We hope to return to your delightful cottage again very soon.

The pictures on the web site reminded me of houses we've stayed in while in Italy, and when we arrived late on a Thursday afternoon, I was delighted to see that the charm of Red Gate Cottage was everything the ad had promised. The quirky architecture from room to room, coupled with lovely outdoor spaces, made the house hard to leave to visit downtown Asheville. The cottage was stocked with everything one would need and the blue tile kitchen, close to the outdoor grill, helped me produce some memorable food. Altogether a cozy, charming rental that we will look forward to staying in again.

We had an amazing time! Georgia was more than willing to help accommodate us in every way possible. We arrived in a snow storm and she personally went out and got rock salt for the driveway as soon as we identified the issue. It was the little things that definitely made it feel like we were at home. The amenities were great and it was in a good location in relation to downtown and not too far from the slopes.

What a welcoming place this is! We've stayed at several VRBO properties around the country that are "rental properties." This feels like a "HOME". It's the little extras - being met with chocolates and cookies and wine. Having plush towels after our showers. Having night lights in the bathrooms. We felt so comfortable here - all three of us. Red Gate Cottage is a very charming cottage in a nice location on the north side of Asheville. It is very convenient to grocery shopping, to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and just a few minutes drive to downtown. It has the feel of being very secluded even though there are neighbors nearby. We enjoyed the yard and outdoor fire pit as well as the hot tub, however, the hot tub is not private. The kitchen and bathrooms were very nice, the living room is small but has a nice fireplace and piano. The master bedroom is also small but we had plenty of room for the 4 of us. We were greeted with some delicious cookies and a bottle of wine upon our arrival. Georgia was most accommodating and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I would recommend a stay at Red Gate Cottage. The Mellow Mushroom has excellent pizza and we loved the tapas and atmosphere at Zambra's.

This cottage gave us a little piece of heaven. It's utterly inviting and completely accommodating. Thank you for offering us this experience. J.Given, Florida (from guestbook) Reviewed on TripAdvisor/FlipKey by: J Givens from Florida Reviewed on: 11/12/2009 for their stay in 11/2009 My recent stay at The Red Cottage could not have been more pleasant. The location is perfect-at the foot of the Blue Ridge Parkway yet just a mile or 2 from a main road with Fresh Market, Starbucks, etc. at the intersection. Another excellent grocery not to be missed is Green Life a bit south also on Merriman. The cottage is not only perfectly located but is utterly accommodating in a carefully planned yet not fussy way. I was there for peak leaf color and could see the colors changing on the surrounding mountains from the deck. Nighttime is fun if you like sitting around a fire which I did either on the deck with the chiminea or at the fire pit. The hot tub doesn't even need to be warmed up-it's ready to go and the owner has provided big cozy robes and slippers to wear to and from. Everything works well in the cottage making it utterly comfortable and charming. I'm already thinking of my next stay there. "Absolutely, I would recommend this accommodation to my best friend!"

Also, thank you for the wine and chocolates. You have great attention to detail. I don't think there was anything we needed that you didn't have. We came here to run a half marathon and enjoy Asheville. Our marathon was a success!! We survived the hills! EEeek. This was the perfect place to stay to put us at ease and get us in running mode. We enjoyed the fireplace and hot tub, especially after the run. We cooked a great dinner here also. I can't say enough. We will most definitely stay here again. Okay. I'm wrapping this up..... It doesn't get much better than that!!! The house was immaculate and had everything you need!! The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed to cook a great meal the night before our race! Red Gate Cottage is the perfect place to stay in Asheville. The cottage is accurately described and presented in the photos. However, something especially appealing about the cottage that is not fully captured in the photos are the private spaces that abound on the property. For either a group of friends or a family (especially one with pre-teens or teens), one can escape easily to a secluded spot (the lower yard with a fire pit, the hot tub in the back of the property, the outside dining area on the deck, the hammock in the upper yard, etc.) to enjoy the serenity of the mountain surroundings peacefully. Red Gate Cottage is located off of Merrimon Avenue which has many fine restaurants and grocery stores and leads directly to downtown Asheville. It is also close to UNC Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway entrance, as well as other attractions. Finally, the owner is very professional and clear in her expectations of renters. Although not necessary for our stay, she graciously expressed a willingness to make accommodations for us in several regards. In sum, Red Gate Cottage is an excellent place to stay in Asheville. We will probably return soon (especially because the facility also allows dogs) and would highly recommend it to friends (in fact, we already have).

We can't say enough! Everything was absolutely perfect and your "hosting" and attention to the little details is so very, very gracious. Every day we were torn between staying in and enjoying what the cottage had to offer and going out to enjoy all that WNC has to offer. WNC typically won out but it was always nice to come home. We LOVED the labyrinth and walked it regularly. The kids loved the playset - what a nice surprise - and of course the hot tub! Thanks for opening your place to us - it has made our stay absolutely fabulous. There is no doubt - we will be back!

My 3 sisters and I come to the Asheville area each summer for a time together and to be near our dad who is in a nearby nursing home. We were delighted to be in the Red Gate cottage! Even though it is located near downtown Asheville, the beautiful landscaping provided a nice element of privacy. We took advantage of the fresh mountain air with open windows. We spent time in the hot tub (a must for our rentals), ate on the front deck, played board games, read, and were close enough to be with our dad some each day. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, and the decorating charming. We liked having spaces to spread out and took advantage of the chiminea on the front deck and the fire pit and seating area down in the yard. We were able to meet Georgia, the owner, who was very helpful, appreciated our suggestions, and gave us a fascinating history of the cottage. We would love to return to this "perfect" hideaway!

My family stayed at Red Gate Cottage, we have three children two 5 yr. olds and an 8 yr. old.We loved the yard, the berry bushes, the hot tub, the fire for roasting marshmallows, the patios and the playground. There is so much to do in Asheville and the surrounding area that we spent the days exploring and returned home in the evening to enjoy the house and the yard. We made most of our dinners at home so we could relax and enjoy the fireflies and the stars. The food store and restaurants were very close. Try the Asheville Brewing Company for dinner and a movie. We did see a family of wild Turkeys crossing the road while we picking berries one morning. It was a perfect home, with all the amenities you would need. We had the best family vacation and it was more then we could have expected. Thank you Georgia for the use of your beautiful home.

My wife, our three dogs and I were looking for a comfortable, mountain cabin near Asheville and stumbled across the Red Gate Cottage. I was happy with the amenities and the proximity to downtown Asheville and it was so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway but what really makes me want to go back is the vibe of the place. This place oozes charm. The owner has done a delightful rennovation (modern conveniences mixed with antique elements) and clearly cares about the landscaping and maintaining an ambience that matches the almost fairy-tale exterior facade of the cottage. Though there is no mountain view from the property, the best view is the cottage itself. We spent the majority of our time there on the sunny deck or in the hot tub which sits around back and is accessible via an ivy-covered, stone walk that offers better privacy than most moutain cabins we've seen. Inside, I was truly surprised to find a pianao. That beats a pool table any day. We had a great time, got to meet the owner- who is wonderful, and will be back for sure.
